    Tuscan shrimp salad
    Kim F.

Good little diner in South Orange. Was wondering around the town looking for a place to eat. We popped into some other places first and then just ended up here since we figured there would be a good variety. I was in the mood for a good salad, and I got just that! I got the Tuscan shrimp salad without olives. It hit the spot. Shrimp was grilled..I only get shrimp out if it is grilled. The diner is rather small inside and it looked like there was just one server working, but she was hustling. If you are looking for a reliable meal, this is your place.

Clearly I liked the food, Bacon Cheeseburger Deluxe (Fries, Pickle & Slaw)

Almost easy to overlook this place, but stopped in here on a whim. Very Mom & Pop diner here, staff is friendly and fairly attentive. In the mood for a Burger and it was just what you expect in a Burger from a diner in the best way possible. Good place for a catch-up and an inexpensive good meal. Will return here. Family oriented and friendly.

    Chef's Salad ($11.50)

I've gotten take out from and have dined in at Village Diner. At the time of my visit, they only had 3 tables outside, and we were lucky there was one left just for us. Our table was adjacent to Cold Stone so the smell of waffle cones kept wafting into my nostrils. Our server was nice though he was more scarce than he was available. No issues with take out, it was easy enough to order over the phone. I am a supporter of Village Diner's salads; you've got a spread to choose from, about 16! I've ordered the California Cobb salad ($11.50) and the Chef's salad ($11.50). They were fresh, huge, and filling. The Chef's salad contained deli meats like roast beef, ham, and turkey. I also tried the Athenian chicken wrap ($9.95) which was all right. Perhaps the Greek dressing was a tad on the bland side. But like the salads, the portion was more than generous, and the wraps all come with fries, cole slaw, and pickles.

Having preferred this diner's competitor across the street I gave Village diner a try as my friend and I only wanted cool drinks for a pleasant day. Compared to Chris's - the current competing diner - this one is spacious with more emphasis on tables vs. chris's booths. Village has the upperhand with outdoor seating on nice days which is cool. I wanted a shake and wanted to give this place a try over the other ice cream shops in town which could also get the job done. The shake took a real long time to get, I assume the girl doing it was new but there were a number of workers there and it was pretty dead, why not give her a hand? I patiently waited and finally got it and it wasn't too bad - my favorite cookies cream. It wasn't with too much cookie goodness though, but not bad. I'd consider another try here so I could see how the full service and meals are, and even better - perhaps eat outside.

Super friendly & helpful staff, checked on our table multiple times. Food came out quickly and was prepared perfectly as ordered. Taste was exactly what you would expect from a diner and the price was very reasonable & absolutely worth it. The restaurant is clean and very welcoming, not upscale just casual and welcoming

Just had Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. The food is great, made beautifully with care. The staff are friendly and polite and they care. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity. All around a great experience. Highly recommended

I especially love the outdoor dining area. It's really nice to sit outside when the weather is good. I just wish there was a little more seating available outdoors because it's such a great space. The inside is also very cute and lively, but it can feel a little crowded at times, especially during busy hours. One thing to keep in mind is that it's not the most handicap accessible, which may be difficult for some people. They also do not do separate checks, so that's helpful to know before going with a group. They are also closed Mondays. Overall, the food and atmosphere definitely make it worth visiting, and I would still recommend it to anyone looking for great Mexican food in South Orange.

This time, I stopped in on a Friday night to check out the upstairs. The drinks were a 10/10 -- absolutely delicious and strong without skimping. The daiquiri and the chips and salsa were definitely the highlights of the night. The food was just okay. The garlic shrimp were pretty good, but the rice lacked flavor and the refried beans were barely a tablespoon spread across the plate. We also had the shrimp cocktail appetizer, which was just alright -- the shrimp were a little tough. Service was great. The waiter was friendly and attentive and moved fast! Overall, it's a fun vibe and a great spot to hang out and catch up over drinks, but I'd come more for the bar than the food. There's a municipal parking lot a short walk from the main entrance.

The woman with the gray hair working at the register, I'm not sure if she is the owner or manager has come across as rude toward me on multiple occasions and has given me uncomfortable looks while I'm paying. I've also personally noticed what felt like different treatment toward some Jespy clients compared to other customers coming in, which made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome at times she treats the Jespy clients differently. The setup for ordering subs can also be a little confusing, especially if it's your first time there or if the deli is busy. The line and ordering process could definitely be organized a bit better. The service overall could be friendlier and more welcoming. It's also a little pricey, so I don't go there very often. That being said, the food itself is still very good and worth trying if you're in the area.

By New Jersey standards this may not be the largest Starbucks out there but if you've gone to many in New York City I'd call this one average sized. It was clean and organized and that matters to me more. My order was taken quickly and I hung out in the back to wait for my order. It was around 9am on a weekday morning and my drink and food were ready within ten minutes so I was impressed. My Chai Latte was good. Starbucks really varies from location to location. I would rate this latte at a "B". I ordered the pesto breakfast sandwich and it was really tasty! I imagine this place must get crazy busy at times being right at the base of a train station. I think I got lucky going at a lull in between busy periods.

The rest of our party arrived within five minutes, and while waiting we had a very pleasant conversation. Michael ended up serving us as well, and his attentiveness truly elevated the entire experience. We were seated in a large dining room down a few steps, a space typically used for large parties and events. Since it was the Sunday between Christmas and New Year's, the room was set with four-top tables. We were able to choose our table, which offered a great view of South Orange--something that most tables in this beautifully designed restaurant seem to enjoy. The restaurant is BYOB, and one member of our party brought a bottle of red wine. Giorgio's provided attractive, proper wine glasses, which was a nice touch. For appetizers, we shared the Caprese and Calamari Fritti--both excellent. I ordered one of the specials: bone-in pork chops topped with blue cheese over mushroom risotto. Simply outstanding. Others in our party ordered the Chicken Parmigiana with penne vodka sauce and the mushroom ravioli, and they enjoyed their meals just as much as I did. After dinner, two of us had cappuccinos and one had regular coffee. I ordered the chocolate mousse cake, another guest chose the cheesecake, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed dessert and coffee. Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable evening in a wonderful restaurant with a great location, inviting atmosphere, outstanding service, and excellent food. By the time we left, the restaurant had filled up with what appeared to be many locals and repeat customers--always a great sign.

It's like a diner now - way more options on the menu and everything you order could be found at a diner. Not only that, it looks like one too, just without counter seating. I could see this potentially being a good place to hang out but it just looks disorganized, the workers don't look enthusiastic or appear confident in what they make. This is further evident by what I got. On the menu they have a number of college themed items - including burgers and sandwiches. I decided to go with "Boland Hall" named after one of the buildings on SHU campus, sounded good - burger, with fries, onion rings and thousand isle dressing. Kinda reminded me of a Italian cheese burger. Yeah it kinda was - just bad. As shown in my pic, the burger to fry ratio was way, way off. It might as well just been fries. It hardly had any ketchup or dressing either. What was worse is it was about $10. Even with a mediocre place like this I try to consider a second chance but I don't think that will be the case here.
