This was our first and only time here. The reviews do not match the food as described. Our server was great. The food however not so much. My pancakes were burned. I asked for my eggs over hard they were runny. My bacon came out under cooked for my liking. When it was returned it was burnt. The biscuits and gravy tasted like a pork soup. read more

I have lived here 30 years and with this being a local spot always wanted to try it so Sunday my daughter took me there for breakfast nothing really appead to me so I went to what I consider a fail safe a club sandwich and the bacon was basically burnt! I can handle crispy bacon but not to the point where I feel it might break might teeth!!!!!! My daughter got the eggs Benedict they said was a little a little spicy had paprika in it but they failed to mention they put a hole bottle of paprika in the hollandaise sauce and overcooked the eggs. My granddaughter would not eat her bacon because it was overcooked burnt and too hard! As we were leaving I noticed other peoples plates and toast were burnt people were not eating! The only reason I gave it two stars is because of the service, the people were nice but that was my one and only time going there never again read more

Just had their biscuit and gravy. The biscuit was big and fluffy, and the gravy was scrumptious! It had bits of bacon and sausage in it and it had the right consistency, not too thick, not too thin. The eggs were perfect amd the hash browns were crispy as I irdered. Coffee was good too. Tina, my server, was very personable and caring. Their prices are a little steep for a Cafe, but it is in a uppercrust village after all. Will definitely be back! read more

If you like biscuits and gravy, this is the place. Especially when Randy is cooking. It's great to see the care he puts into the cooking and preparation of the dishes. I Ordered pancakes once and they were on the small side and the food server noticed this as she was placing all the plates on the table and apologized and insisted on bringing a lager one to top things off. Very friendly staff and occasional Randy comes out of the kitchen to help clean up and says hello. The staff go out of their way to help the regulars, especially if there is some sort of special need. We have observed them helping a customer that's in a wheelchair and we see him every time we're in there. They even help with cutting his food up, making sure he's well taken care of and still take care of their other customers. Prices are a little higher than most places however we try to support mom and pop places as much as we can. The booths have had torn seats for as long as I can remember however they keep them clean and the staff is very attentive to all of their customers no matter how busy they get. With prices going up everywhere it's still nice when you receive excellent customer service. When they show they appreciate people coming in to support them and not act like it is expected. The food was good, decent portion sizes, I LOVE that I can get cottage cheese instead of potatoes without an up-charge. However biggest pet peeve when it comes to breakfast places...DO NOT TELL ME THE CORNED BEEF HASH IS HOME MADE WHEN ITS NOT. If you order the corned beef hash and are expecting real shredded corned beef, you will be sorely disappointed like I was. It was the canned stuff. Which is whatever and people love that stuff, I'm not one of those people- ESPECIALLY when the menu states "home made" Aside from that, its a super cute place. Was in town for the weekend and tried village cafe today. The service was really good. My coffee never got cold. This is a local spot. The waitresses know a lot of the customers that come through the front door. I like that kind of vibe. The breakfast was really good. I really enjoyed my Potato Scramble today! Our waitress understood my concerns and the dish was cooked to perfection. Mushrooms, green onion, yellow onion, green bell pepper, and potatoes. While out for a walk in Arroyo Grande Village my husband and I decided to stop in the Village Cafe for breakfast- It's a nice small cafe and the server made us feel instantly welcomed seating us right away- I ordered the short stack with a side of hash browns- My husband ordered the waffles with sausage and eggs and a side of biscuits and gravy- I was pleasantly surprised when our food arrived! My short stack was huge! I instantly could smell the heavenly aroma of vanilla and they were delicious! My hash browns were cooked exactly like I prefer which is crispy, golden and tasty- My husband loved every bit of his breakfast especially the biscuits and gravy, which I happily kept dipping my hash browns in! This spot seem to have been hard hit by COVID and they are trifling to keep their doors open. It is a true greasy spoon with the kitschy decor, warm and attentive waitresses, a talented short order cook, and plenty of locals. My food was tasty, warm, and there was plenty of it. But when I got to counter/bar area it started to make sense. Kids breakfasts are a little small but adult portions are great. Biscuits are super soft. The toast were just ok with loads of butter slathered on them. Lastly we had the waffle which was ok and they came with corn syrup. The credit card machine was down, so we had pay with cash. The two servers worked their tails off, made sure my coffee cup was full, got my meal out to us within 10-15 min. after putting in our order which was about another 5-8 min of waiting. Yeah, service could have been faster, I think they could have used one more person while we were there as they were packed with a wait line of 6-7 ppl most of the time. The food was awesome. I had the sausage links breakfast with biscuit and gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast--delicious! I was one happy camper. Waiting patiently reaps the greatest rewards.
