Okay. I happened to see a post on Facebook this morning for quirky restaurants with great food on the Central Coast. So we had to stop for lunch to give the tuna melt the test. We love a good tuna melt. This one knocked it out of the park. Perfect moisture content, crunch, generous melted cheese and bread cooked just right. Had the potato salad as our side and it was wonderful. Not gloppy at all. Everything was great. Friendly service too. read more

This is a neat little place for a casual breakfast. We were in the area visiting friends and decided to meet them there since they had a patio that was dog friendly and we always have to consider that. The food was excellent. The bakery items are amazing especially the muffins cranberry orange especially. We'll definitely go again when we're in that area. read more

Great stop for breakfast. Small family operated restaurant with a military decor theme. Service was friendly, we went at 12:00 on a Saturday and it wasn't too busy either inside and outdoor seating. Lots of parking with easy access to the restaurant. I tried the French toast and it had great flavor. Added benefit they offer a 10 percent military discount. read more

I have been living here for 11 years and until today have not found somewhere that actually cares about the food they serve. The Mayors Place is disturbing visually, dirty chairs and tables. The tarp does protect from the sun but was dirty too. The coleslaw was fantastic not drowned in mayo, the tri tip sandwich was melt in your mouth meat and the bread was fluffy fresh. Superb salad. Go. Focus on the morning glory plants scattered around the patio and just eat in bliss. read more

Very Kitschy place. No frills. Family run. We try to support local as much as possible. Service- 4/5 Wait time- 2/5 We came for breakfast (around 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday)- Indoor seating is minimal, and was full. We sat outside. Do not dine here if you have a time crunch. :0) Food-3/5 1- ordered the special- tri-tip scramble with Monterey Jack cheese. It arrived with a lot of mushrooms and not much tri tip. 2- 3 slice French toast with maple syrup. Very good. 3- eggs Benedict with country ham. Ham was very thick. We thought too thick to be sitting atop an English muffin for eggs Benedict (personal preference). 4- Hashbrowns with cheese one egg and one slice of bacon with a side of sourdough toast (way too much butter on the toast- almost dripping with butter)- again personal preference. Pricing- 2/5 This establishment is not fancy, the food is priced at what a higher end establishment might charge. The pricing is about 7 dollars more than other breakfast/lunch places charge of this caliber. Our bill was $95.10 before a 15% tip (one can click 'other' for tip amount on their portable machine). Overall experience was a one and done. We will support other less expensive local breakfast establishments. read more

Came for lunch after a walk at Oso Flaco because of its strong Yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint! The staff was clearly family, very friendly and really nice. We sat outside--there were several booths inside as well. I had the BBQ chicken breast sandwich, with French fries and potato salad; my friend had the veggie omelette with biscuits and gravy. Portions were huge, and everything was delicious, clearly homemade. It reminded me of my mom's cooking. The chicken breast had a nice smoky grilled taste, and it was really juicy! The iced tea came out in a 24oz mason jar--never had to worry about getting a refill! It does take a while for the food to come out, but it's made to order and it's worth the wait! This is a breakfast and lunch place, so get here before they close at 2. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area! read more

Finally went back after several years. Still just okay. I actually went to the Mayor's Place because I was craving country-fried pork and eggs like I used to get in my home town but it turns out they've updated their menu and only do country-fried steak. So that's what I ordered. The steak and country gravy were just really lacking in flavor. Usually it's made w/ bacon or sausage drippings but I didn't taste either of those flavors. I actually had to add salt to give it flavor, even tho there were chunks of what I assume is sausage. I'm kind of okay with that since they seem to appeal to an older crowd and most of us cotton-tops are on low-salt diets. The eggs and hash browns were perfect! One of the reasons we've been skipping the Mayor's Place is that we've had the same experience as other people of waiting WAY too long for our food to arrive. This time wasn't like that. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. They've really jacked the prices up. Inflation has been an excuse a lot of restaurants are using to charge more and I just don't buy it. That $20 breakfast plate wasn't worth $20. And their credit card devise has 20% tip as it's minimum, which is a terrible trend that needs to stop. I might go back some time and try a sandwich. The biggest waste of $35.00 and literally the Worst Tri-tip sandwich I have ever tried to eat.

I came to visit my grandma for her 71st birthday, and brought her to this cafe to have breakfast before I headed out on my journey home. We arrived a few minutes past 10 am, and waited about 10 minutes for a table out on the patio. Our waiter quickly greeted us and took our orders. After about an hour of waiting for our food, and a couple of cups of coffee later, I finally asked our server for an update on our food. We were told that it would be an additional 20 minutes (mind you we had been waiting for over an hour at this point). Grandma and I decided we would wait an extra 20 minutes. 25 minutes later (1.5 hours in total) we were told it would be an ADDITIONAL 25-30 minutes. At this point, we decided we would leave and our waiter said we didn't have to pay for the coffee (which seemed fair given we waited such a long time). The time was 11:55 am. On our way out to our car, a staff member (perhaps the owner) came out to look at our faces and said, "I'll remember their faces" as if we had done something wrong. This is to whomever said that to my poor grandma and I: you don't have to remember our faces, because we will NEVER come back to your establishment. One star for the view. read more

There was a you girl helping our waitress which asked how we were doing after we ordered. My friend got the biscuits and gravy which she liked. We waited 45 minutes for our food which means that they do not prep anything. I think if I went back I would order something from the breakfast menu which is what they are known for. read more

We haven't been to The Mayors Place in a while but knew they had a back patio friendly for pets. Since we had our dog with us and we live in Nipomo, we thought to stop in. We went directly to the back patio and were greeted by very friendly and welcoming staff that seated us. Without even asking or it, they brought our dog water and a treat! He was very happy. The back patio was picturesque and very comfortable. Our order was taken quickly after deciding from an array of great food offerings. Coffee and juice arrived quickly and the orange juice was great! Our breakfast entrees followed shortly and looked and tasted fantastic! We were very pleased with the venue, the staff, and the meal! Well done The Mayors Place! A neat little american diner with the coolest exterior right out of an amusement park. I needed to kill an hour and i stopped in for a late breakfast. I opted for a breakfast buritto. The restaurant is ran by a family and the daughter took my order up front. This is definitely a locals type of spot but she was very friendly. Everything is cooked fresh to order by the husband/father of the family. It took around half an hour to get my burrito. I enjoyed the sunshine on the back patio. Only downside, one 1of the patrons was smoking at his table. The owners clearly knew him and didnt have a problem with smoking since he even had an ash tray. All in all, this is an old fashioned hometown comfort brealfast spot with friendly service so give them a try. read more

I enjoyed this cafe a lot. The outside of the building is definitely unique. There was plenty of seating inside or out in the back patio. Walk-in and pick your seat, the owner(?) greeted us and took our order swiftly. I could tell the staff were family members and friends by their camaraderie and it felt very much like they welcomed us into their home to share their home cooking. Me and the cuz had breakfast this visit. The food was cooked-to-order, prepared quickly, and mighty tasty. The portions were just right and the prices were fair and reasonable. After 3.5 years we finally stopped in. Wish we had not. We decided on lunch. I had a half of tuna sandwich and my wife had a chicken salad sandwich. I chose coffee and my wife had iced tea. The tuna was un-remarkable. Too much mayonnaise and no celery or onion for texture. Subway makes a much better tuna sandwich. My wife said her chicken sandwich was dry...lacking in dark meat. What it lacks in ambiance ( it has quirky decor) it makes up in value and taste. The place is certainly friendly and the menu extensive. The place has feel that you're visiting a friends kitchen. Several months ago, we came here and asked for recommendations and were told they are famous for tri-tip but were out, so we had breakfast which was good. Fast forward to today, we were craving tri-tip sandwiches and they were not worth it. The only thing that helped was the au jus I asked for which at least gave this dry, overcooked (asked for medium rare), flavorless tri-tip edible. Add the fact that we had to seek someone out to get drink refills and I typically request extra napkins but with no one is sight, I went to back patio to grab some from the serving station. Maybe we'll stick to breakfast and give this place another chance but definitely won't have tri-tip again. read more
