Cute little bagel shop - bagel was ok! It was early so pretty empty. Coffee was also a bit mid but satisfied for what I needed.

Lavinia Good Food - Pumpkin Toast!

I found this place walking from the Hermitage Amsterdam museum to the Rijks Museum and was…read moreecstatic. I was starving, needed to get out of the rain and desperate to not have just more pub food or unhealthy, unoriginal, generic food. Lavinia is a charming cafe, the food is fresh, healthy, and perfect for people with special food preferences. I am not a vegetarian but after a week on holiday, I needed something not meat and potato-based and I have the most lovely teriyaki vegetarian bowl with a bowl of coconut curry soup. A lovely cappuccino to warm me up and I couldn't have been happier. When I went to check out I noticed the amazing cakes and breads at the glass cafe display and asked if by chance anything is gluten-free, as I'm gluten-intolerant and I had noticed gluten-free bread on the menu as an option. BINGO, not only did they have gluten-free options, but I had the most amazing orange, ginger cake of my life! I messed up on paying with my card, as I had no cash on me and had just flown in from Switzerland, so no Euros on me, and I forgot to include a tip. I told the girl to ring me up again and she kindly told me it didn't matter and waved me on. I felt horrible as the service had been great. This review is the best I can do to repay her, as I tried to get back later with cash after visiting an ATM, but they had closed at 4pm. Alas, hopefully some kind soul will pay this girl the 3 Euros I should have. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, go here. If you're not and just want a good meal that isn't meat and potatoes, go here. The coffee and cakes are great too, if you just want a cute, kitschy place to stop and rest your wary feet. I loved this place and was so happy to have found it!

Service: The staff are super friendly and helpful. The salads are made to order and ready within minutes. Food: I've eaten many salads and soups and every single one was sooo tasty and healthy. The ingredients are fresh and the salads feature unique combinations. The portion sizes are ideal. Ambiance: They did an amazing job designing the inside. It's welcoming, warm and cozy with nice touches and comfortable seating. Price: The prices are affordable and worth every penny. Stop what you're doing and grab a healthy meal at Venkel!

It is a salad with of course lentils, but also goats cheese and nuts and it tastes delicious! I thought all the salads on the menu looked really good so I really want to come back soon. You can also create your own salad and choose all the ingredients. I also a had juice; apple/pear/mint. Delicious! Well it should be because its pretty damn expensive. 5 euros, and not even a big glass.. But well, it was good. There is also free water which is nice. The interior was beautiful and cozy. It really felt good and I felt very relaxed. I really like Venkel! I thought SLA was the best but now I like Venkel even more. The salads just taste amazing. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Just try it soon!

Wow, this was a nice surprise. My friends live near Waterlooplein Metro station, and De Hapjeshoek…read moreis one of their go-to takeout places. If you didn't know it was there, you would definitely miss it. Plus, you would never think a joint in a subway station complex is any good, but this is a real hidden gem. Suriname is a former Dutch colony in South America. Consequently, there are a number of Surinamese restaurants in Amsterdam, but this takeout stands OUT. The overhead menu sign is all in Dutch, and so are the few items marked in the butcher/bakery-like display counters. Most dishes are not identified. I had no idea what to get so friends did the ordering. After we ordered I noticed a QR-code for the English menu. Whatever I ate, and we had at least 6 dishes, they were hearty, spicy and bursting with flavor. You probably can't go wrong trying several items. Don't forget shrimp chips. If you aren't doing takeout, there are a few cafeteria tables to sit and eat. Don't miss this place!

The only dish that was not a stand out was the Samosa. Highly recommend the Bakje Bami, Nasi (stir fried noodles with a wonderful and unusual sauce) and the Kip Ketjap (chicken in sweet soy). I want more of this, and will have to return to beautiful Amsterdam soon!
