A superb little restaurant in Lee Green
Villa Moura is a lovely little seafood restaurant in Lee Green, not far from Lewisham and Blackheath. Punching above its weight in terms of quality, the food is delightful and the staff are perfect hosts. It's relaxed, and there doesn't seem to be any enforced dress code, although a few of the diners were in reasonable smart trousers and shirts.
It tends to fill out quickly, so booking is recommended, and although there are a number of good restaurants in the area, the food really is superb. You feel looked-after from the moment you walk into the restaurant; the staff are attentive (and quite funny) without being clingy or claustrophobic. The restaurant is actually quite small, and although there's a downstairs as well, you do feel quite close to other diners.
The menu is absolutely chock-full of fishy goodness, and it's all really good.
The starters are particularly good; I recently had the Norwegian mushrooms, breaded and stuffed with salmon (and with accompanying salad). Delicious, and generous - there were four of them, and they were pretty big.
The mains are simple but great - usually a nicely prepared fish dish with a
small amount of potatoes, mash or other side. There is a small selection of
non-fish dishes, so it's safe for the occasional non-fish eating friend.
Service is reasonably quick, and you're never kept waiting for too long.
The wine list is reasonable, in terms of both price and range, although by no means exhaustive - but it's good enough not to dock a star for! There is a good range of puddings and booze to finish up with. The prices overall are really reasonable - £12 - £15 for most main courses, and £14 - £25 for a bottle of wine.
Individually, the elements may not stand out as remarkable but as a whole, the dining experience is extremely good. The attentive staff, reasonable prices, really tasty fish and good starters all combine to make Villa Moura a lovely little find. read more
