(It was sublime!) Their desserts are too good. They have their regular items such as the tiramisu which melts in the mouth and the Italian ice cream that has real bits of strawberry, pistachio, vanilla seeds and chocolate in it. They also have special desserts that often are just too tempting - sticky toffee pudding, Eton mess with mango, interesting cheesecakes etc. The coffee is delicious and just perfect after a scrumptious meal there! Further, as they don't sell alcoholic drinks they allow you to bring your own, for an incredible corkage fee of just £1. My bill for pizza, fruit juice, tiramisu and service came to a fraction over £11. But how did it all taste? Pretty good: the tomato sauce on the margerita was exceptional, comprised simply of sweet, juicy tomatoes and fresh basil leaves. The base was soft rather than crispy, but good enough. The only weakness was the quantity (rather than quality, which was reasonable) of the mozzarella, which was slightly excessive for me - next time I'll ask them to reduce it slightly. The tiramisu was among the best I've tasted in London, with a good balance between cream, sponge, coffee and dusting. And, as I've mentioned, in a huge portion. Overall, an amazing find. I struggle to think of a better Italian pizzeria in south-east London for the prices charged.

For a mere £20, I was treated to veal tonnato, a main course of cotechino with mustard-laced lentils and salad leaves, and an olive oil cake with creme fraise. Each dish was punchy and impressive. The first two courses did justice to Italian classics: the veal was rich and yet still delicate, the cotechino a happy meeting of earthiness, bite and soothing fat. The real star was the olive oil cake - an unassuming little slab, it was perfectly moist and admirably simply flavoured. All four of us ate well, and enjoyed the atmosphere enough to linger on a while after our meal. I hope to return soon.

SEPPIE with puréed beans stater were pretty good but a little on the liquid side as a whole; Maiale Ubriaco was a good size portion (drunken pig, chef must have had a few while thinking up the bizarre dish names) and was supposed to come with truffle potatoes but seemed to have settled in a bed of garlic, smokey mash with broccoli that didn't taste at all like truffles. Learnt from past mistakes and ordered 2 side orders and didn't feel underfed ! Only real disaster (which I admit I didn't taste... or want to!) was the Pesto which looked decidedly anaemic and stodgy. I never have the courage to order pesto at restaurants because I know they'll get it wrong and Mine will be better , so I need to find someone to order one on my behalf next time!) Many people have mentioned the ice cream but now the novelty flavours have worn off I have to say they are a bit on the average side for Italian ice cream and really don't deserve more than 50%. This is where Caravaggio most excels; its value - a main course averages at about £5 and the portions are huge. A starter would be enough for some. And a coffee is only £1 - amazing compared to the coffee chains. So yes, I love Caravaggios. I can't recommend it enough. It's good-looking and quality enough for any type of social setting from family meal to first date, and at the same time cheap enough for those on a budget.
