A recently opened Asian fusion restaurant focusing on noodles and rice dishes, on Croydon High…read moreStreet. (Formerly Miso.) The interior has that very modern minimalist feel, with bright white décor and dark furniture. Service was quick and reasonably friendly, although the menu cards were slightly confusing as they had the old Miso paper place mats which had a drinks list which was no longer relevant. Telling the customer they are wrong at the outset is never a good start... However, that glitch over, there followed a reasonably good meal: for starters we had chicken wings in chilli sauce (£4.50) which were generously portioned, although would have been better for being sightly spicier and better cooked (they were cooked but only just). Vegetable Jiaozi pancakes (£3.50) were a better bet, with soft pancakes and crisp vegetables inside. For mains we had Laksa with noodles (£9.30) and Monk's stir-fried vegetables with tofu and rice (£7.20). The Laksa had plenty of chilly but was not as aromatic or fragrant as we've had elsewhere, and the coconut broth was a little heavy. That said, there were plenty of fat juicy prawns and little fish rolls. Monk's vegetables was a safe rather than adventurous choice (there is not a great deal for vegetarians) and perfectly nice, but not outstanding. Overall, there was nothing to complain about, but we left just a little underwhelmed. The total bill with beer and wine came to £36, which is par for the course for this part of London.

But the thing I really like is this is not the place to go for that long meal this is a restaurant that serves the food as it is cooked and when you have eaten you can get your bill and be gone quickly. I think everyone who eats here knows this as there is no doubt the you are her for some good food not for a long time. If you are this way definitely worth a visit.

There are lots of yummy places to eat in CP so this 'East Asian Canteen' which appeared to have a bit of an identify crisis didn't tempt me in right away. However in the window I spotted they had Ma Po Tofu which I love but rarely see on the menus. The Menu is an eclectic mix. Edemame beans, prawn crackers, Kimchee and chinese pickles all the sides to Ramen, Japanese Curry, Dim Sum and Chow Meins. Very rarely do you come across such a broad mix of Chinese and Japanese cuisines in one restaurant. I had my Ma Po Tofu (Spicy black bean sauce with sliky Tofu and boiled rice - Lush) and the Mrs had the Japanese (Katsu like) curry with about a million breaded and battered butterfly prawns. Portions were REALLY generous and good value. It's Bring your own bottle with a £3 corkage charge per bottle - so do pop along to the Sainsburys across the road before you visit. There's a limited choice otherwise but both green and jasmine tea are available. Service is a little slow I think primarily with the amount of Deliveroo deliveries they have coming through the front door, but overall a good spot. Overall it's a small but surprising spot with some seriously tasty food. :)
