Has anyone suffered or had any adverse ill effects when dining at Alec's restaurant in Navestock Brentwood? I mention this as my wife and I, along with our 2 sons dined there on Saturday the 10th of September and 6 to 7 hours after our meal our 2 sons were violently ill complaining of severe stomach cramp, diarrhoea, headaches and vomiting. From what I understand these symptoms are sometimes associated with shellfish/prawns contaminated with bacteria. As a result, they were both not well enough to go to work for 2 days. I have not got any evidence that this was down to the food we were served but coincidentally both my sons had pill pill prawns as a starter which me and my wife didn't have. I would grateful to hear from anyone who dined at Alex's on Saturday 10th or Sunday 11th September who ordered pill pill prawns to establish if they also had any side effects. I have spoken to the restaurant who state they served this dish 27 times that particular day and said that they had no other complaints and will not be taking any responsibility. read more

Been to Alec's three times and it is a nice restaurant. This area is pretty sparse for good restaurants and against that competition Alec's definitely shines. Restaurant is in a good location and is very well finished making a nice setting. The view of the fields is great in the summer. The duck, cucumber and hoisin sauce starter is fabulous. Definitely a favourite. The crab ravioli is also good. Delicate and light it is very nice with good texture. Maybe a bit short on flavour though? The prawns with shallots and chilli are really tasty although perhaps too much butter. I am big butter fan but the prawns do have to swim in a lot of butter. The sea bass and ginger is a very nice dish. All the sides have been very good as have all desserts. A good wine list matches the food well. A good restaurant but still room for improvement for the cooking to always match the prices. read more

What a wonderful place to dine !! What wonderful experience !! What a wonderful setting in the countryside yet so near to Brentwood town, Essex. 5 of us had our first dining experience at Alec`s Restaurant and Bar on 12th July 2018. It was for a 21st Birthday. The food (meat and fish) divine, vegetables to die for, service with a smile excellent, very generous portions. I recommend a table in the conservatory with views across the fields and countryside. I have been to Alec's a number of times and have always enjoyed it. The food is well prepared and presented, the staff are friendly and very professional. The menu is limited to mainly fish. (but is is a fish restaurant) The sea Bass is to die for...... We pay about £50.00 a head and I feel that is a fair price. The only downfall is that it does get very busy Friday and Saturdays nights (we avoid these if we can, we try to go on a Wednesday) because it is very noisy. read more
