My husband (his first trip outside the US EVER) and I stayed here for 4 nights last month. Room 201. (A tip to travelers coming from CDG: You can get off the metro at Luxembourg and cut across the south end of the Jardin or get off at Port Royal and walk westward on Blvd du Montparnesse. Luxembourg is a slightly longer walk but more enjoyable. Port Royal is easiest and straightforward - close, straight, and no hills. We had only one suitcase so the slight incline to the hotel, getting off at Luxembourg, was no problem at all.)
We had a fantastic stay. The front desk staff were always helpful and attentive. It was convenient to everything. Several metro stations. Shops and brasseries. And - the pinnacle - an easy walk to Jardin du Luxembourg. We tried to "be French" the first morning but decided to just give in to our American selves and get a venti at Starbucks, just off Rue Vavin, and enjoyed our coffee and a morning smoke in the gardens - and people-watch with a baguette and some cherries, before heading out for the day. We'd go back in the evening too and bring wine or get gelato-like ice cream at the stand. Perfect.
The area is bustling and very, very safe. Beautiful views up Blvd du Montparnesse... my husband and I enjoyed relaxing at our open window with a glass of wine and watching the night life. There are markets, restaurants, cafes at every price range, liquor stores, fromageries, charcuteries, and patisseries everywhere, up almost every street. We were so glad the room had a small kitchen, so we could tuck away our goodies and enjoy them when we just wanted to stay in for a bit. A Galleries LaFayette is nearby as well - and a very reasonable currency exchange when we needed to convert cash - for when my husband found that he'd walked his soles through and needed a new pair of shoes. haha - very convenient. The Metro is very, very accessible, as you can almost walk to any metro line directly with 5 minutes and not have to change trains anywhere. We had nice, long walks to the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame (PLEASE walk to Notre Dame and don't miss out on the arts district!) but most of all, we just really enjoyed being in what felt like the perfect center of a walkable Paris. Watching everyone live and go about their day and joining in.
The room was great. As another reviewer mentioned, the water pressure is VERY strong... it was startling. Just turning on the shower almost made the shower curtain fly out! lol - but the tub was deep and tucked away - very spacious, and the towels were large and plentiful. Even the toiletries provided were better than what I'd brought so I used those instead.
The ONLY downside is trifling... and not a downside to most people. Our room was cleaned to perfection every day, whether we had the Do Not Disturb/Change Towels sign out or not. After the 2nd day of coming back to a perfectly tidy room (instead of the tidy room we'd left because we're compulsive cleaners) and fresh towels, we gave in... there was no stopping the excellent housekeeping staff!
I'll recommend Villa Luxembourg to everyone who asks where to stay in Paris... not only was it a great hotel experience but the location is PERFECT. read more
