Sadly, we were scammed here as is the norm in Amalfi. One room in our party was a double room charged at 300 euro per night plus 3 euro per person tax per night. I was in a single to be charged at 260 euro per night plus 3 euro per night. Sadly, I was charged 300 euro per night which I thought to include parking. When I got my car the aggressive man demanded a further payment of 35 euro per day. Basically, they overcharged us 120 euro. They also wanted payment in cash and naturally provided no invoice. In Amalfi everyone is trying to extort money from you and the Villa Lara was no different.
A few other things to note.
1. Rooms are very loud and offer no soundproofing.
2. The wireless internet is very slow.
3. You must plug a device into the wall to have power in the room. It is tied to your room keys. Thus, if you leave the room you cannot leave anything to charge. Equally, it turns off your Air Conditioning!
4. The bathroom room mirror is set so low it is useless unless you are 165 cm or shorter.
5. You can hear all toilet flushes, showers and sounds from the rooms around you.
6. You can hear conversations and street noise.
7. You can here the guests from the next door and wall sharing Villa Annalara.
8. When the wind blows there are metallic slamming noises.
9. The bed mattress is rock hard.
10. Approaching by car is extremely hard as you must drive 600 meters up a narrow pedestrian street. It is jammed with people and the drive took 20 minutes. It is hard to find a place to stop by the Villa Lara.
11. If you have bags from the street you must navigate getting the gate open, going up a series of steps. Then, taking a long ride in a tiny elevator only to carry bags up more steps. Getting in and out of the place is a challenge.
12. The shower is tiny.
13. Rooms have no desks.
14. Rooms have no light blocking curtains. Just a sheer. The sun rises at 5am here so that sucks.
Sad that with these lacking deliverables that Villa Lara also elects to scam guests. Avoid this 2 star tourist trap hotel. read more
