If you are looking for a more romantic, beautiful and serene place in the world, you need search no further than the wonderful island off the coast of Naples, Capri. The scenes are unique to the Mediterranean, with endless vistas of the sea and the rocks. The Roman emperor Tiberius retired to this island, building his Villa Jovis atop the cliffs (visitors can still today visit the ruins of his palace), and there is little wonder why. Capri is restful paradise.
But a day trip will not satisfy. To appreciate this perfect place it is necessary to stay on the island. The only danger is that you will not want to leave.
The Hotel Casa Morgano is my favorite hotel. The same family that runs the Quisisana--the most chic, expensive, and also loudest hotel in Capri--runs this charming hotel, located along the Via Tragara. The views from the rooms offer patios with breezes from the Mediterranean. The cost of the rooms are higher for those on the upper floors (closer to the lobby) with those lower rooms (with lesser views) going for a lower rate. But there are no complaints from any room. In fact, some of the rooms with less of a view seem to boast a greater square footage.
Alongside the lobby is a terrace where one can look out over the sea while enjoying a drink. A breakfast buffet is served in the mornings with fresh fruits, juices, meats and cheeses, rolls, and coffee, tea or hot chocolate. For an extra fee one may order eggs. Midday, lunch is offered with a selection of specialities. The food is superb! Among my favorites are the octopus salad, the marinated anchovies, the marinated salmon, the spaghetti alle vongole, and the spaghetti puttanesca, but I have yet to see a plate of food served at lunch that did not make me salivate. Lunch here is well worth it!
There are two swimming pools and a gym, all for guest use. The swimming pool by the lobby is so lovely that one might think it were a fountain until he noticed the steps leading into the water. For lying in the sun there are several chaises with different views and locations around the balcony and pool. Although there is not a beach, one is treated to beautiful vistas of the Mediterranean sea. The pool by the gym is shared by the adjacent hotel. This pool is preferable if you are interested in swimming laps, rather than just cooling off and luxuriating.
The staff is the best I have ever encountered on my travels. They are kind, efficient and generally wonderful in every way. Although the Casa Morgano is a five star resort hotel, their kindness is such as to treat you like family. Trust them to provide you with the most wonderful vacation in Capri. read more
