In Hotel Villa Emilia, we may have found "the one" for future trips to Barcelona! We tend to go the city once or twice each year, and have tried different hotels on each occasion. While none of the other hotels were necessarily bad, none provided as positive of an experience as Hotel Villa Emilia! The staff were very friendly from check in to check out. From the front desk, to the cleaning staff, to the restaurant staff, everyone was incredibly pleasant. They also get bonus points for being extremely dog-friendly! They don't charge for your dog, and even provided us with a dog bed without us asking. I had emailed ahead of our visit to inquire about any dog-related details and to let them know about our dog, and their response was fast and pleasant. As far as the rooms go, ours was modern, clean, and comfortable. Just enough storage for 2 people and a tiny dog. The rooms may feel small, depending on what you're used to, but I thought it was perfect...especially on a trip where you're not spending much time in the room anyway. This area is really quiet, too. We were able to sleep soundly with the window open, so if you want to avoid the excessive crowds of tourists, this is a great option. From an atmosphere perspective, the hotel has a very cool boutique vibe about it. The common areas are nicely-appointed, clean, and modern (same as the rooms). The restaurant/bar downstairs was excellent, too. I usually don't have high expectations of hotel restaurants, but Bistrot Villa Emilia was really good! We actually went back twice for a nightcap of some tapas and drinks. It's a perfect spot to get some pan con tomate and jamón, and their "patatas as horno con brava de tomates secos" are a more savory version of bravas. More sweet and smoky than spicy and smoky, but really good! The real showstopper for us was the "timbal de pulpo a la Gallega." Their take on Galician octopus was so good, with perfectly-cooked octopus over mashed potatoes. We love the traditional dish, but this was such a great version! They have a nice gin selection if you want excellent gin & tonics, too! Aside from the elevators being noticeably slow, I really can't think of anything to complain about. In thinking through all of the hotels we've stayed in during trips to Spain/Barcelona, Hotel Villa Emilia was definitely the best, and we'll certainly return on our next trip!

From the moment we got in the door to check-in to the moment we checked-out, the staff was professional and friendly. The hotel is 10 minutes of a cab ride from the hustle and bustle of the Plaça de Catalunya of where we mostly went for our tours. The receptionist called for our cabs and just made us feel at home. Everyone on the staff spoke English, and were more to help us with recommendations of places to tour and places to eat at. The hotel room were clean, and very updated. Amazing place to stay while in Barcelona! We will definitely miss the cappuccino every morning, the freshly made boiled eggs, and Jámon - the breakfast buffet was amazingly delicious!!!

Bed 1/5 Mattress was on the firm side (rating 5 for soft and 1 for hard) Room 4/5 Room was very clean. Desk area and good number of outlets. Room has a flat screen TV. Also Shower warmed up quick. Shower had awesome pressure and drained well. Shower is open entrance (no door) so watch your water pressure and angle to avoid your bathroom floor getting flooded. Proximity 3/5 Close to the city center-about a 15 min walk. Price $$ Overall -Free Internet. Hotel has a restaurant and nice bar. They provide a complementary bottle of wine with check in. Roof access with bar on restaurant is stunning. Staff was very friendly and very helpful! Highly recommend this hotel! Superb rooms for a reasonable price!

This hotel has been everything that we have been looking for. Clean, comfortable, great location and safe. This hotel is close to everything yet far enough away from the Hussle and hussle of many tourist areas and the entire staff spoke English. Monica was a standout by far. She provided excellent recommendations as well as amazing service. There wasn't a single request she couldn't accommodate. We primarily walked or took taxis and were comfortable getting around either way. The food in the hotel was great and breakfast was fresh and fulfilling. We also enjoyed cocktails at night while unwinding from the busy day. It was simply perfect and an amazing value!!! Highly recommended.

When you walk in the beautiful unique scent envelopes you. You are treated like a valued guest from the time of check-in to check-out. You receive a complimentary glass of wine from the bar to use during your stay. The rooms are comfortable with sufficient closet space. Channels are in Spanish and English, and I believe other languages also. The shower is amazing! The sheets have a unique scent to them that is relaxing and inviting. It's a "secret formula," that unfortunately you cannot buy or know what concoction it is! Friday and Saturday they have live music by the bar. Parking is next to the hotel, and they discount the parking by 40%. Close public transportation, also. Breakfast is a must here! They do have your typical yogurt, meats, cheese, fresh fruit, pastries, bread, but also eggs (fried, boiled, omelette). Delicious! When I return to Barcelona, I WILL stay here.

Stayed here at the end of a work trip for four days…read more The Good Great location within walking distance of anything and everything. Beautiful, well-appointed building, lobby sitting areas, restaurant, etc. Staff were friendly and very accommodating with bag storage, delivering bags to our room before we returned, restaurant recommendations and more. The rooftop is big with pool, bar and a number of seating areas for a 360 view of the city. Relaxing place to sit with a drink. Spa in basement is nice with all amenities. You have to reserve use and it's capped at 30 mins. Rooms are decent size allowing for suitcases and still moving around room. Bathroom is clean and has everything needed including heated towel rack and bidet. Although robes weren't included we found some at spa we used for the remainder of our trip. Lobby is very spacious and comfy, and there is live music in Thur-Sun. Great place to relax with a drink after exploring all day. Breakfast was extensive and a nice start to each day. Included made to order as well as plenty of ready made options for all palettes. The Not as Good We reserved both a superior and classic room but couldn't tell the difference for an additional 130 euros. The front desk said the superior had "more light." Potentially but not sure that was described as difference for what we paid. The rooms lack power outlets. Nothing by bedside. USB by desk but no USB-C or Int'l plugs. We had phones plugged in behind chairs, tea kettle sitting on floor, laptop in bathroom... The subway is underneath the hotel and even though we're on the 4th floor it was loud with lots of vibration. We had Do Not Disturb on for our entire trip but staff entered regardless and made up room. Not a big deal but surprised us and meant we had to put our belongings away every time we left not knowing who would enter when. Overall it was a pleasant stay and we would come back but many hotels we passed by looked like good options as well.

TLDR: Come for the rooftop views of Barcelona, not so much for the stay…read more While Barceló Raval's rooftop offers one of the best panoramic views of Barcelona, the hotel itself is giving knockoff of the W. They try to give off that sexy, mysterious vibe, but as soon as you step into the room, the green ceiling, cheap fixtures and damask wallpaper give it away. The hotel is reasonably "affordable" for its location (near the Gothic Quarter and La Barceloneta), but definitely in a sketchy area. I highly advise walking outside the hotel at night, as you'll find the rough crowds your parents warned you about. The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk, and to get there, you have to cut through some of the sketchiest alleys. I booked through Expedia and was upgraded to a room with a view, a bottle of mini wine & an extra bottle of water. My amenities weren't so great from the moment I opened the door. Since my room was pretty high up, the room was stifling & those views were blocked by a stainless steel mesh. FYI: your room requires a key card at all times if you're trying to use electricity, which includes air conditioning. The shower initially felt luxurious--spacious with a giant waterfall head and solid water pressure--followed by lush bath towels, but that impression faded once I noticed the pockets of mold and grime in the corners. Sleeping was also a challenge since walls are thin and anytime the guests next to me entered their room, it sounded like someone was entering mine, which kept me paranoid and on high alert. Rooftop: the rooftop not only offers panoramic views of Barcelona, but also has a bar and pool, though hard to even suggest the pool is an amenity since it's more so for aesthetic than functionality. On the roof, it's not an open floor plan, so you'll have to walk around the building to get a full 360 view. For those who are height deficient such as myself: prepare for obstructed views because of the high railings (great for safety, but not so much for those under 5'3).

The location is truly unbeatable - just a block away from Plaça de Catalunya, a couple of blocks from a major metro stop and several main bus lines, a few blocks from great shopping and with good casual food scattered throughout. It's a great central spot for sightseeing where you're primarily relying on public transit, but also quiet and safe if traveling solo. I booked a signature room through my travel agent, and was delighted that they allowed me to check in a couple of hours early AND upgraded me to a signature balcony room. The hotel is very cute snd colorful, with modern design. The room was clean and pretty spacious, and the balcony was such a nice touch! I liked opening the windows every afternoon and sitting on the chaise and reading. There are refillable water stations on each floor by the elevator, which was a small but big perk to me. Awesome water pressure and temperature, kind, attentive service by staff, and incredible rooftop bar made this a fun place to kick off my stay in Spain. Small gripes: As a short person was the bathroom tub was a bit tall for me to climb into and out of. There was not a true fridge/freezer in the room; the staff was kind enough to store something in their freezer for me but it felt too out of my way to ask them to do it too often for me. The lobby bar drinks were fine but nothing to write home about. Overall though this is such a great hotel and I'd absolutely stay here again. It feels luxe but had very reasonable rates, even right after Easter which is peak tourism. The rooftop bar is very much worth a visit, beautiful views of the city and a fun, lively vibe. I cannot recommend this hotel more!

I had thought having our hotel in this area would have been a mistake, knowing about the pickpocketing and protests from locals regarding tourists. Yet I found it so convenient to many attractions within walking distance, just a block away from the metro station, souvenirs in the shops, with late night spots if you're hungry, and being close to a few markets. The room was spacious and modern. We slept well in their comfortable king bed. We were given slippers and a bathrobe along with the typical amenities like hair dryer, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. There was even a bathroom scale! Something I rarely see in hotel rooms these days. Our package deal included breakfast at their daily buffet. And it's one of the better buffets that actually has a made-to-order-eggs table. I love that there's a personal chef for those who like their eggs a certain way. They had many Spanish cured meats, cheeses, fruits, salads, pastries and bread, cold cereals, yogurts, coconut chia seed pudding, churros and chocolate (though it was not like a churros shop), and even congee, blended smoothies and power green drinks as well as fresh squeezed juices. We were impressed to see a few different items changed on a daily basis to keep the buffet fresh and new. I liked it better than the buffet we had in Madrid, despite it having a better hotel rating. The front desk staff was super helpful when we needed a family metro pass for 8 trips verses getting an unnecessary unlimited pass. That saved us money! She directed us to the metro station up the block and had us buy a family T pass. This was only €12. You would scan and let one person go through first while keeping the pass to scan yourself in. You can scan multiple times because it is for a group and not an individual pass. If I visit Barcelona again, I wouldn't hesitate coming back to Le Méridien! It was perfect for all our needs!

Since it's in the narrow alleys of Gothic, arriving at the front door via taxi is difficult, especially if the streets are very crowded. However, it's pretty easy to walk to from the main street if you're OK with walking about five minutes. When we left for the airport, we were able to coordinate a taxi pick up with the front desk. Fortunately, it was also a sunday, so the streets were very empty. It took about 15 minutes for the taxi to arrive, but it was easy to get out of the narrow streets. The hotel itself is nice. Check-in is on the mezzanine level. Our room wasn't ready, but they were able to store our bags. We grabbed lunch at the rooftop restaurant and the food was objectively decent. The main draw of the rooftop restaurant is the incredible view where you can see all of Barcelona and the towering cathedrals. Service was friendly. On a different day, we tried there spritz hour, which seemed to be marketed as two spritzes for €12. However, we each got charged €12 which I think was the price on the menu anyway so I don't know what happened there. The hotel room was cozy. Bed was very comfortable. The layout was a bit odd if you imagine that the room is a U-shape, the bed is the bottom of the U, which makes sense. However the bathroom was split up with the toilet on the right side and the sink and shower on the left side so after you use the bathroom, you would have to walk to the other side of the hotel room to wash your hands. It's not like the room is big, but it's just kind of odd for layout, especially if like luggage is dispersed across the room and you have to walk through all that.
