    The villa was gorgeous and the restaurant right outside the villa was amazing! Couldn't find the name but definitely try the outdoor restaurant on the right side as you exit the villa. They gave some great recommendations and we all tried new Italian cuisine.

    This little eatery has charm, great prices, and great location. Everything else left a lot to be desired. The plain bread with no oil or vinegar was some how both rock hard and chewy. Barely edible. We had to go through 3 different items from the menu before we got one they weren't sold out of. At 1 in the afternoon. My friends were happy with thier pasta dishes. Not the ones they wanted of course, but the ones they settled for. I ordered the carpaccio. Which was not carpaccio. Their carpaccio is a lie. They put slimey roast beef deli meat on a plate with cheese, greens, and oranges. Carpaccio is supposed to be raw. It didn't even taste good. This osteria, and thier cook, should be ashamed of themselves. I would give them a one star, but they get a point for the pasta and the ambiance.

    Carbonara

    Don't let the name fool you! It's right across from Villa d'Este and may seem like it could be a tourist trap, but it's not! We were met with lovely service and delicious food. We started with beautiful bruschetta with wonderfully fresh tomatoes. We also had the local red wine which was light but great. I also had carbonara that was to die for! This was definitely my favorite pasta since visiting Italy so far.

This took me back to my child hood spending time at my great grandmothers house and her cooking for us. We started with the meatballs and the bruschetta, the cook also brought us some spinach filled puff pastries that were good also. The meatballs were perfectly cooked, had a great sauce good amount too. I only ate the traditional tomato bruschetta and the fresh tomatoes and the fresh toasted bread with the salt and the olive oil were a perfect match, the other bruschetta was an olive tapenade and some sort of cheese, not a huge fan of olive tapenade so I didn't eat it but my wife and our friend said it was good. I ordered the carbonara, and I will say that it was the best we'd had on our trip and we were in Italy for 9 days, most places put too much egg yolk, over powering the other flavors this was just right perfect amount of cheese and the Speck(bacon) was fried perfectly and although I've heard that al dente pasta is the way to go I prefer mine done and not so al dente and so does this chef as the Tonnarelli was perfect! We also shared a beef filet which was seasoned perfect just a little salt and pepper cooked medium rare! My wife had the lemon crepe. I had one bite and it was great, my wife loved it as well. For drinks my wife had Preseco and our friend had a glass of house red which they enjoyed. I had a coke and my daughter had a sprite, when trying to explain sprite to the cook they also gave us an Italian Lemon soda which we all shred and it was refreshing and delicious. For dessert we shared the chocolate cake, the apple strudel and the wine cookies. The strudel was fluffy slight crispy and had a caramel apple filling! Then only thing wrong was I got too excited and burnt my tongue. The chocolate cake was perfect, six little pieces freshly made. The cookies were good, little hard but we dipped them in our cappuccino's. If you're in Tivoli please stop by and get a great meal!

    Came here for lunch and decided to treat myself to the tasting menu (chose the menu with the fish…read moredishes). I have to say - I am surprised by the huge portion sizes! The tasting menu definitely seemed like a meal for two people! The waitstaff was super kind and unbelievably friendly. I was traveling and exploring Tivoli on my own, so it was nice to have a welcoming waitstaff. Here are my thoughts of each menu item: Trionfo di mare: 4.5/5 - enjoyed the assortment of fish! One of them was super fishy, and some pieces weren't super tender, but still tasty overall Scialatielli con ragu di spigola e datterini: 4/5 - plenty of clams, and the sauce had a strong clam taste. Would be nice if the sauce had some flavors other than clam flavor (maybe some herbs would help) Turbante di spigola con verdura croccanti: 4/5 - beautiful presentation. Fish could be more tender. The crunchy vegetables pieces were so tasty Pastiera napoletana - 3.5/5 - not my favorite type of dessert (obviously prefer chocolate), but it had a nice, cold texture. Missing some flavor

I know in Italy people do not expect tips, I gave him 10euros and was so happy! The sun was out and having our meal outside was very enjoyable. Great decor!

    Okay, so here's what happened: I sat down at Trattoria de Gabriella in Tivoli, expecting a nice,…read morerustic lunch. You know, something light, maybe a salad, a glass of wine, with some old Italian man yelling across the piazza. Classic Italian midday fantasy. Instead, my life flashed before my eyes. Not because of a near-death experience (though the richness of the smoked cheese could have qualified), but because this meal came for my soul. First, the salad. Which, listen, was not a salad. It was a garden daydream. Leaves so fresh they were still negotiating their contract with the soil. Then came the spinach-stuffed ravioli. Imagine a soft pillow filled with the very essence of Italian virtue, then drenched with a cream and butter sauce. The pasta was made fresh probably hours before. And finally, the smoked cheese which I'm convinced isn't even legal in some countries. The trattoria has been around forever, like, probably older than some Renaissance art, and stepping inside feels like being adopted by a family you didn't know you needed. It is away fr the touristy places in the middle of the square close to Villa d'Este. You would prolly need breadcrumbs to find your way back to the square bc it is hard to find. For our antipasto we had bruschetta. It was a nice light start after a lot of walking on a hot day. The primo was an option of spaghetti aglio & olio w/ crushed red peppers, or spaghetti amatriciana. I chose the latter, but had to swap w/ the ITC bc her dish was too spicy. She is fr Milan in Northern Italy where they eat more risotto and polenta. She prefers basic Roman pasta. Nonetheless, both pastas were simple dishes, executed very well. The pasta was al dente vs the overcooked crap we get in the States. In addition, neither was drowned in sauce, or inc a softball sized meatball. The bacon in the amatriciana was subtle, but sufficient to balance starch w/ protein. Lastly, the secondo was an option of thinly sliced roast pork or burrata. To me, the latter was a great way to end the meal on a hot day. I had a bite of ITC's thinly sliced pork, and it was very good. The meat was tender and tasted great w/ the reduction. Regarding the ambiance, all of the other patrons were local inc the Chief of Police and some of his officers. The female chef came out to talk to one of her regulars, as is customary in small towns like Tivoli. Likewise, the service was friendly and warm. Our waiter appreciated that I spoke a little Italian, but like almost all Italians, English is the language they know best after their mother tongue. If you do visit Villa d'Este, skip the touristy restaurants in the square where pretty ladies w/ menus try to flag you down. TdG is where the locals eat, and where you can have simple food done well.
