Perfect stay in every way! I just returned home from this fantastic boutique hotel. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a margarita and the most helpful, attentive staff. We stayed in the Villa Amor Eterno. We gasped when we walked in. Absolutely breathtaking! It was at the very top of the hill, so yes there were stairs, 157 to be exact! I loved the workout so this didn't bother me what so ever. The room was spacious with individual sliding glass door/closed rooms. They had private bathrooms and showers as well as air conditioning. The main space was open air with a Palapa roof, a very generous sized kitchen, sitting area as well as a large table for dining. I couldn't have asked for anything better! I absolutely loved every second I was there! I will 100% be returning in the very near future. read more

The hotel is beautiful, but for the price, it was low value. We had a number of issues: We got a two bedroom / two bathroom apartment and neither shower worked the first day. They fixed one the second day we were there. We stopped on our way from the airport to get food and our fridge was turned off so when we arrived late and unpacked our food, the next morning, everything had spoiled. No one told us there were yoga classes, so I walked across town for yoga, only to find out the hotel had classes every morning. The Concierge said there was yoga every day except Fri/Sat/Sun.... and then we went to the pool Friday and there was a yoga class that morning as well. We reserved a car with a carseat and triple checked that there would be one there, and it was in the car on the way to the hotel, but even with a reminder, they forgot on the way back. This caused a 30-min delay onto way to the airport. The driver kept complaining about the owner of the hotel, always forgetting to tell him... he was angry and irritated the entire ride that we needed one and we made him late. It caused a particularly unpleasant ride to the airport. There were people working in our patio one afternoon when we were on the patio and did not even apologize or acknowledge it was inconvenient. I didn't feel comfortable sitting out there alone in a bathing suit. I thought the space was supposed to be private. The view is beautiful though. And the place nicely decorated and very clean. For the price, there were other places half the price I will stay at when we return to Sayulita. read more

Villa Amor has got to be one of the most romantic places we have ever stayed. From the second we walked in, we were continually welcomed and cared for by staff. After checking in, the receptionist personally escorted us to our villa and made sure that we had everything that we needed. We stayed in Cascada, one of 24 different villas. This particular villa is a unique indoor-outdoor fusion with an open air living area and kitchenette as well as our own personal dipping pool. Both the bedroom and bathroom are indoors beneath a rustic thatched "palapa" roof. From our veranda, we had a beautiful view of Sayulita beach. Despite the openness of our villa, we were far enough from the main Sayulita strip that it was still rather quiet allowing us to still experience an ambiance that is both private and intimate. Aside from our room, Villa Amor has a heated infinity pool, massage facilities and a complimentary yoga session each morning. We did take full advantage of the yoga which was a perfect way to start our day. The only downside is that Villa Amor does not have their own food and beverage service. I would have loved to enjoy a margarita pool side or inside our villa by our personal dipping pool. With that being said, they do allow you to bring in outside food and drinks and there is a separately owned restaurant downstairs called Si Senor which closes at 11. I 100% would stay at Villa Amor again. As I said, each villa is uniquely designed varying in both size and layout. Honestly, I wish I could spend a month here and trying out each villa! Definitely book Villa Amor for your next stay. PS - I'll also mention that at first we were concerned about bug bites after reading some reviews on Yelp. However, we were delighted to see that there was already a nicely mounted mosquito net over the bed. Neither of us seemed to walk away with any bug bites during our stay. read more

I'm staying in the hotel as we speak, and I have to say it's a mixed bag. Beautiful room, friendly staff, great views, good location.... but there is a lot of fine tuning missing from making this (in my opinion) worth the money 100% First of all, the WiFi only worked for about 30min, after which my phone simply couldn't get a connection. Definitely an ISP thing, and the front desk claimed it 'doesn't work well in the rooms'. Well, seems to me the rooms are where you want WiFi, so... confusing. Second, there is a good amount of ambient noise (humming, faint traffic) that you can hear even from as high as my room is... which is near the top of the hill. Apparently some of the guests in my group were provided ear plugs, I was not. Additionally, you're likely going to see/find insects, lizards, etc in your room as some point, so be advised. Couple other things like no decaf coffee, tea, or some other common things you probably like to see provided in an expensive hotel just take away from the polish. Even the hot water in the shower is extremely slow to work... takes about 3 whole minutes for the temperature to change and the ability to adjust subtle increments is very tedious. This place has great potential, but it just isn't checking all my boxes... quite. read more

It's so close to town, you get free bikes, paddle boards to use. The pool is beautiful. The view from our room incredible, the room was amazing except all the BUG BITES. We stayed only one night and I am glad that is all we stayed. If we hadn't been ambushed by bug bits I'd give this place 4 stars. Also my husband and I are outdoor lovers. But I found it hard to sleep, knowing that lizards and random birds were coming in and out of the room through the opening in the roof (open concept) at night. The A.C in the room kept turning off and on, it made it super hard to sleep. That coupled with drunk guests from weddings made it hard to get a good nights rest. The room and property were amazing. Would I stay here again NEVER the BUG BITES are not a good trade off not to mentioned the rooms are $$$. My friends and I came to Villa Amor to be bridesmaids in our friend's wedding, which was to take place at the hotel. We were very excited to stay in the Paraiso suite. Long story short, I was severely bitten by BED BUGS the first night all over my body. Another person had bites on his face. We had an MD in our group who found the bugs and confirmed the bites on my body. Once the manager, Norma, found out how bad they were, the staff at the hotel were caring. They moved us immediately and tried to assist with anything I needed. I was still very uncomfortable and definitely not looking my best to be in a wedding! The real problem came once we left Villa Amor, when dealing with the property manager, Barbara. She thought the hotel had done their due diligence by moving us and offering me medical care. In reality, they had to move us and I had an American doctor available. Most hotel businesses would compensate the customer for being inconvenienced. I did not think that was unreasonable. 1 month after my stay, I still have bite scars and no answers from the property manager. If you dare to stay here, check the beds and I hope nothing goes wrong for you! read more

NO AMOR FOR VILLA AMOR! I was excited to attend a close friend's wedding here in May until Sayulita was hit with a bad case of the Norovirus. It's known that many guests who've stayed at Villa Amor and attended recent weddings have become victims of the virus and gotten extremely sick. Like any sensible person, upon hearing this news, the bride and groom canceled the wedding. Villa Amor never proactively shared this information and downplayed the truth when confronted. Moreover, Villa Amor is refusing to refund the bride, groom and all of their guests. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. The people are unethical, dishonest and looking for every opportunity to take advantage of visitors. read more

What is their fault is the following: - The Bride and groom had to find out on their own, and was not warned by the Hotel directly - They intentionally kept this information hidden until AFTER the refund period. - They are now holding the money hostage while down playing the severity of the epidemic - The bride and Groom are now tasked with changing arrangements for their ENTIRE wedding at the very last minute AND having a nasty fight with the hotel in order to return their guests money. I cannot imagine the stress... Right now, it's looking like the money wont be returned, so either the guests or the Bride and Groom are going to eat ALL OF THAT MONEY... Awful situation to be in! DO NOT GO TO SAYULITA. My husband and two kids stayed in Villa Amor March 24-30, 2019. 4/4 of us got violently ill vomiting and diarrhea. My husband and I are both physicians and have been to Mexico a dozen times and have not gotten sick. This is our first time in Sayulita and we got sick after one day even though we used all travel precautions like brushing our teeth using bottled water and not drinking liquids with ice. Sayulita pumps their sewage into the ocean of the public beach where the bacteria is 180ppm (beaches close in the US if ppm is 35). The worse part is Villa Amor hides these facts from the guests and after I reached out to management of Villa Amor when we returned to the US they denied any knowledge of the Norovirus. Every tourist we met on our snorkeling cruise got sick. STAY AWAY from Sayulita. Everyone gets sick here!!! read more

Not an amazing experience for us. Rooms were pretty expensive even though the floors are kinda dirty and the bathroom just kept having a septic smell. Doors have pretty wide openings between the frames so mosquitoes do get in. The net helps but it's a pain for wimpy tourists like me. Proximity to the downtown area is a pretty long walk, especially if you come with kids. Golf carts can be rented for an ungodly $45/day. Reserve them early because they sell out and really crappy ones in town rent for even more than that. Do NOT rent cars. No parking at the hotel and in town parking is pretty much impossible to find. Just do the taxis. Service however was wonderful. Very nice staff. Be sure to note which room you are offered. The top rooms are a good 150 or so steep steps to get to. Enjoy the town. Lots of fun stuff to do day and night. Lots of vendors will come by the hotel to sell stuff. Nice things but it's cheaper to get them in town. Don't buy the Cuban cigars though. They are complete fugazis. The restaurant is the best food in town, plus they take credit card. Service there is top notch as well. read more

I write this review with the hopes it will reach senior management at Villa Amor as well as any future travelers that are considering this location. My husband and I paid nearly $1,400 for a 4 night stay coming up in May. The trip was planned for one of my best friends wedding, and we couldn't be more excited. Last week, a small group of people from the wedding party spent a few days in Sayulita to tie up some loose ends. During their stay they witnessed people first hand experiencing intense vomiting, diarrhea and nausea that lasted for several days. This is when everything started to unfold. While everyone is familiar with the saying "you can drink the water but don't eat the ice" in Mexico, we all thought it was a bit weird that every single person was getting sick. Some swam in the ocean, some ate street food, some drank alcohol.. but every single person still got sick. A few of us started to look into this and found that Sayulita is experiencing a pandemic outbreak of norovirus and rotavirus. A quick google search uncovers hundreds of different stories of people being hospitalized due to this outbreak. The sewage system apparently cannot handle the city growth and raw sewage is spilling into the oceans and leeching into the groundwater. The town has begun bleaching the streets, but this too is making people sick. What was the most concerning part about this is that Villa Amor is well aware of the outbreak and spread of the viruses to guests staying at their property, but did not alert any of the guests to the danger of traveling to the town. My friend was distraught to have to cancel the wedding a mere 5 weeks before the scheduled day, but was forced to as many of the guests are children and the elderly. I personally was bringing my ten month old son and after hearing about the outbreak, I could never imagine subjecting such a young child to such serious health issues. When I called to initiate the hotel cancellation and refund, a very rude woman said that we were "a few days outside of the cancellation refund policy" and "good luck with getting a refund." While I do understand cancellation for convenience without refund is an acceptable policy, our need to cancel our stay was for health concerns. I am working with my bank for a credit card charge back, the only other avenue I have is for review sites like this to 1. Get someone in upper managements attention at Villa Amor and 2. Make other potential visitors aware of the very real and serious health risks. The headache and financial hardship that this is causing so many people in order to protect their health and prevent spreading what's already considered a terrible virus is appalling. If Villa Amor will do what's right by their guests and offer people the refunds they deserve, I am more than happy to remove this review. But until then, this immoral gesture cannot and will not go unnoticed. read more

Warning: if steps aren't your thing, be careful which villa you book - ours was 95 steps up! (Good thing we packed light!) OK, now for the good: we stayed in Mar Vida, a one bedroom hut with the best views around. Seriously. We spent many hours just hanging out on our porch, reading, and watching the surfers below. We saw a Coati, which I'm still excited about... I didn't even know such an animal existed! They have room service, a restaurant on site, and incredible extras like free yoga, a spa, and free paddle board rentals! I could go on forever. I never wanted to leave. read more

This is a luxury boutique hotel but very different from luxury hotel standards. Let me explain. My wife and I just spent five nights here to get out of the Texas cold. We stayed in Villa Peninsula. This is the most incredible room I have ever stayed in. It does not have a TV, phone, or wifi but you will sleep open air with a 500 sq foot balcony listening to waves all night long. The town Sayulita gives you the chance to step out of your busy life , slow down and enjoy living. Do not come here expecting an American hotel, do come here to get away from your ordinary life. This room sells in the high season for around 240, compare that to Cabo and you will be a 2 g's a night. read more

After sailing for a week on a 38 ft sailboat, staying here is like visiting an old friend in their very nice beach house! Proprietor Cindy, is a gracious and energetic hostess. She met us at the gate to welcome us in. It's a little hard to find by taxi, look for the gate with hearts on it . After a quick tour we were seated outside looking over the beach with sangria and a margarita, chips and guacamole. Do not book at Villa Amor! We were expected to attend a wedding next month at Villa Amor when we just heard news of the major outbreak of Rotovirus and Norovirus within the town of Sayulita. After hearing many stories of awful experiences, hospitalizations and illness the bride and groom reached out to the Villa Amor staff who down played the issue and stated it should blow over by the wedding next month. The bride and groom have decided to cancel the wedding, not wanting to put their 100+ guests in danger and when asked to speak to Villa Amor staff they have not only down played this huge health concern but also refused to refund all the guests, or assist in any cancellations . This hotel is a complete disgrace, stay away and do not waste your time or money. A complete nightmare for everyone involved. read more

DO NOT BOOK. I am writing this review in hopes that nobody ever finds themselves in the situation that my friends are in. We all booked at this hotel for a friend's wedding. The entire city of Sayulita is experiencing a MASSIVE outbreak of Rotovirus & Norovirus. The last 3 weddings at Villa Amor were impacted - at one wedding 65 out of 67 guests fell ill. At another the bride's father had to be hospitalized. The entire city is being sprayed down with bleach in hopes of getting this epidemic under control (that bleach is leaching into the ocean) but nearly all travelers are still falling ill with this devastating bug. With all the above, Villa Amor never alerted us to the issues and we had to find out on our own. They conveniently kept this under wraps until we were outside our window to get a refund. They are now holding all of our money hostage and will not let us cancel the event all the while trying to down play the issues the town is facing. My friends are now left devastated and unable to have the wedding. The 100+ guests are out a ton of money and when I asked Villa Amor leadership to please help they declined. A wedding is one of the most important events in a persons life and Villa Amor has taken that away from us. In selecting a venue & partner for a wedding you need an organization you can trust - Villa Amor is not that type of organization. It is only a matter of time until more of these reviews show up. Do not stay here! I stayed at Villa Amor years ago and enjoyed the stay and friendly staff which is why I am so surprised by how they have dealt with the current documented norovirus. My husband and I were booked to stay at Villa Amor in May for a friends wedding when we learned about the growing health concerns and had to cancel. Villa Amor is not refunding us for our stay. As someone who has been hospitalized multiple times while traveling with similar conditions staying in a hotel and town infected with this virus is not an option and I would expect that they would put their guests health above their greed. We were actually just staying in Puerto Vallarta for 5 days but when we went to Sayulita for a day trip we fell in love with the town immediately. And when we learned Villa Amour had a room available we couldn't help staying for a night. We stayed in Casa Linda - the view of the ocean was incredible and there was parking + a charging station for the golf cart we rented. I came to Villa Amor for my wedding in July 2015. We took over the property with friends and family from all over the US and Canada. We stayed in the Serena Villa as well as the Gran Villa. Some of my favorite moments from the trip come from visiting our friends in their villas. Each villa is so different and remarkable with ocean views, pools and interior designs. The customer service was unbelievable. I've never met a group so accommodating and willing to go out of their way. From delivering meals to the room, carrying our bags, cleaning, providing us waters, you name it, the employees at Villas Amor go above and beyond their normal duties. I look forward to heading back to Sayulita and Villa Amor very soon! read more

Love this place. Second stay here. Location is great. Rooms are all unique and wonderful. Restaurant service excellent. This is NOT a giant resort. It's a quaint condo complex at the end of a dirt road on the south end of of a charming Mexican beach town. Units are individually owned managed by different management companies. We have rented both times with Gabbi from sayulitaatyourservice@gmail.com and highly recommend them. Very personal service. Took care of all our needs - boogie boards, towels, rain umbrellas, chairs etc were all included with room. Love this place and will definitely return again. read more

We just returned from 5 nights at Villa Amor. It is 1 of the most unusual hotels I've ever experienced. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to our needs. We stayed in the Cinema unit. It makes a nice first impression, but after you stay for a while you notice some of the negatives. Firstly, the living space is a big palapa and is open air. So all bugs, lizards etc can get in. Birds kept stealing our sugar packets for the coffee from the counter. This unit has leather like sofas which had a horrible mildew smell every time we sat down. Our bedrooms were enclosed and air conditioned, so sleeping was comfortable. The master bathroom was through a door in the bedroom which put you outside. The humidity hit you like a wall!! There are robes (frayed), frayed, rough towels, hair blower, soap, lotion, shampoo. They supplied coffee and bottles of water each day. There is no phone, TV or radio. So I would view it as $600 a night "glamping"(glamorous camping). The view is beautiful, and right on the beach. It's not a beautiful beach, but it was fun except for the constant nagging of vendors and child beggars, Not to mention stray mangy dogs pooping on the beach. The resort has a nice pool with a BBQ you can use if you like. If you go, bring a flashlight to walk to town,it's dark until you get to town and the roads are not paved once you exit the resort, and OFF for the Mosquitos. read more
