I DO NOT recommend staying at Hotel Vogue in Sayulita for vacation!
And here is why:
I am one of 5 care givers for a patient with MS (Cam) and he wanted to take us on a vacation to Sayulita. As i have lived there a few years, and know the town, he thought that would be a good place to go. I found a wheel chair accessible accommodation for the 6 of us (not an easy task) at Hotel Vogue, and sent many emails back and forth with the owner, Mary Dolinka. I paid in full $3782.00 USD in May 2016 to pay for our 2 week vacation on Feb 11- 25, 2017. On Feb 10th i emailed Mary to tell her we may check in a little late, and asked if there would be someone to greet us when we arrived. She emailed back right away and said the office is open till 10pm and if we were late to call her and she would come let us in personally.
When we arrived at 9pm Feb 11th the lady at the desk had no reservation for us!? I got her to call Mary as i had just talked to her the night before and thought there might be a little mix up. When Mary came to the door she had no clue who we were and insisted we had not made a reservation. At this time i opened my laptop and proceeded to show her all the emails and paypal receipts. She then said "i think i remember, but we are full". So here we are now 10pm on a saturday in Sayulita with a wheelchair with no where to sleep! Mary gave us the option of going back to stay at a hotel in Nuevo Vallarta, but that is not the vacation we had wanted, or paid for! Eventually she had a small studio at Hotel Vogue where Cam and one other could stay and the rest of us ladies went and stayed at a good friend of mines house for the night. We went back the next day and Mary told us she could put the rest of us ladies up at a different hotel for the rest of our 2 weeks. We got to the room at the other hotel.... One kingsize bed and a cot that barley fit in the room, black mold on the wall, no drinking water and a cold shower AND we had to pay a $400peso fee to get someone to let us in after midnight! Definitely not the kind of place we paid for. She then brought me the difference of the costs of staying there and said she had paid and extra $400 USD out of her pocket to put us up there!! I knew she was lying and proceeded to go online and do the numbers myself. She was actually making $1700 USD off of us!! When i came back to compare numbers with her and come to an agreement, she then kicked us out!! Saying we were causing her stress and not cooperating and making things difficult!! I then had half a day to find us accommodations, and thanks to my friends in Sayulita i got it done. But, in 2 weeks we had to move 3 times, as the houses i found were only available for a few days each.
The next day i went over to get a refund for our money as she totally screwed up our reservation and vacation. I was willing to pay her for the time we stayed at her hotel and the other one she booked. She then told me i had to pay for the full 2 weeks at the other one because SHE had already paid it!!?? All she wanted to give us back was $1000 USD, when we were actually owed $2600 USD!! I then, with amazing friends in Sayulita, went to the ministerio to file a complaint and try to get our money back! She brought her lawyer and i told him what happened. I printed out all the emails and receipts/documents i had and her lawyer just said how much does she owe u and even asked if i wanted her to cover the cost of the other casa's we stayed at. I am an honest person and only wanted what was owed to us. She did pay our money back, but it took over my whole 2 week vacation to get it! Also the attitude she had and the way she talked down to Cam in his wheelchair was not very nice at all! The whole time thinking we owed her!!? I was blown away by her behavior, and how she dealt with HER mistake!
I just keep thinking how horribly wrong this could have gone had i not known locals and friends in Sayulita to help us, and i just want to warn everybody about her and how she runs her establishment to prevent this from happening to anyone else!
