recently had the privilege of participating in a Viking Cooking Class with colleagues and we all had an incredible time! Not only was it informative, but so much fun! Chef Kristina and Chef Vincenzo were an absolute pleasure. While I had a terrible experience with the hotel rooms in Harrah's, I would definitely recommend coming to the resort for the cooking class!

I surprised my boyfriend for his birthday with a quick trip to AC and a Sunday night cooking class. We had such a great time cooking together and learning how to make pasta from scratch. The chef's were super nice and funny (chef Vincenzo and chef sarah). It was Sunday Italian dinner night and we cooked raviolis, fettuccine, a red sauce, a cream sauce, a salad, and meatballs. All the food was amazing and it was nice to sit down and eat and meet all the different people. They even lit candles for the people with birthdays and we sang happy birthday. It was a great experience and so much fun and I would definitely go back and do it again!

Atlantic City is one of those places that most everyone associates with gambling and not much else. With the recent negative news this past year of the multiple casino closings many have been wondering if AC was on the verge of closing shop. Let me tell you this as a person who has and continues to enjoy an occasional weekend getaway to the area this is furthest from the truth. One of the problems and misconceptions that the general public has is that there is not much else to do in Atlantic City other than sitting in front of a slot machine or a blackjack table. If you can't find something else to do here you're not looking hard enough! There are many things to do in this town for couples and groups alike. One fun activity would be taking a cooking class at the Viking Cooking School located at the Harrahs Resort and Casino. It's actually a terrific way to spend an afternoon, and a great way to spend some quality time with your significant other, or friends and family. If you're looking to brush up on your cooking skills, or a company performing team building exercises, then check out a class here. My gal and I had walked by the cooking school many times and always wondered what it would be like. Well, we finally had the chance to put on our aprons, get in front of the stove, and test our skills. You know what? We had a blast! Before our class started we had a few minutes to check out the retail store offering all types of cookware products, cutlery, electrics, and accessories. There is a lot here to choose from, and if you have a self professed amateur chef, or pro gourmand loved one at home who loves to wow with their culinary delights this place is a perfect spot to pick up a cooking gift. Also check out their wine selection with many affordable bottles and vintages, some from NJ too. The facility itself is super clean and well maintained. It offers a hands on experience for the novice chef like myself that can barely cook Shake 'N Bake, to the experienced grill master who knows their way around a kitchen. They offer many types of classes here weekly with different themes so there is something to be found for everyone's palate. Jump in on a class and learn some Latin inspired eats, make some Italiano, be carnivorous with some steaks and chops, go down South for some soul food, or head to France for a dinner party. Oui! Oui! What's great is that you get to sit down with your class in a nicely appointed dining room and enjoy the delicious meal you just prepared from scratch. There is just something so satisfying being able to actually enyoy the fruits of your labor with a delectable bottle of wine. Nom! Check out their monthly schedule for a listing of available classes. Ours was called "Latin Sizzle". Latino Heeeat! I had never taken a cooking class before so this was something I was looking forward to. As we walked in and took our spots at the prep stations we were greeted by chef Richard Younger. Right away we knew this gentleman meant business! He was both intimidating and nurturing at the same time. Kind of like the scary drill seargent, fire breathing pastor, or some girl's shotgun cleaning dad that you just met before taking her out on a date all rolled into one. Yet, he was also very funny, interesting, and amazingly organized. Heck, the man's career was incredibly impressive as he worked for many years as an executive chef for Steve Wynn himself. Whoa! Legend. To start off Chef Richard offered each of us a raspberry mojito cocktail to welcome us into his class. Now that's what I call a proper start! He led us through each step. Prep work, how to properly hold and use a knife, setting up and cleaning the work areas, picking the correct food items and ingredients, and much more. He kept a close eye on us, demonstrated use of the tools and techniques, offered one on one help, and had no problem calling us out when we were screwing up. Hey, safety first, and he was a stickler for that. Even if it was embarrassing at times. Yeah, I goofed up a bunch. Now drop and give me twenty! In the end we all perfectly prepared a pretty amazing meal! I was quite impressed with our cheffery! On the menu this afternoon was a tortilla soup, marinated steak with chimichurri sauce, fish tacos with a peach salsa, seasoned potatoes, and a mixed green salad with a light dressing. All made with the freshest of ingredients. Bottles of red and white wine were also included. As a bonus a dessert of dulce de leche ice cream with caramel sauce presented in a cocktail glass topped off this wonderful cooking class soirée. It was such an enjoyable way to spend three hours (11am - 2pm) in Atlantic City without any gambling involved at all. With most classes in the $99 range it's a more worthwhile way to drop a Benjamin than losing it in a slot machine. Plus, you get to fill your belly and learn a few kitchen tricks along the way. That's a jackpot to me! Better watch out Bobby Flay. I'm coming for you!

Loved the experience. Great chef instructors, and really delicious recipes. We did the Italian Date Night meal. The lobster ravioli was fantastic. The kitchen was nice and spacious. The other participants were super friendly and fun. Wine is provided the whole time. I will go back and bring friends!

Cooking class with incredible Viking appliances. We came here for a birthday party and it was fun fun fun. We made the food under the incredible instructions of Chefs Gary Lesniak and Vincenzo Nelli. And all of us made a spectacle gourmet meal. We will be back!!!!

Herb crusted halibut and snap pea vegetable stir fry

My wife and I received this class as a Christmas present. We did the "cooking light" class with chef Sarah and chef Vincenzo. They were extremely talented chefs and great teachers. We cooked herb crusted halibut with tomato coulis stir fry and sorbet. We had an appetizer and cocktail before we started cooking and then had wine with dinner. Cooking was about 2/3 of the three hours and the last 1/3 was enjoying the meal. We would definitely do this again.

Menu included lobster cakes, herb-crusted beef tenderloin, asparagus, blue cheese souffle, and key lime cranberry cheesecake.

This past weekend, we had a group of eight girls attend a class at the Viking Cooking School for a bachlorette party. We all had a great time and the food was delicious. The class took a little over two hours and then we were given time to eat in a beautiful dining room after. From check-in to finishing dessert, we were there for a little over three hours. Our chef started by telling us what everything at our prep stations were and how we would be using them. He then told us some basic knife safety, joking that he had to say it because not everyone has common sense and someone got hurt recently. A few menu items were altered and the chef explained that their ingredients that were delivered were different than they expected. For example the beef tenderloins weren't thick enough to stuff so we made the mushrooms separate instead of stuffing the meat. Pros: * knife techniques * tricks to dicing vegetables easier, specifically onions * techniques to properly cook vegetables * techniques to properly melt butter without burning it * amazing food * price included drinks * no clean-up (they do the dishes) Cons: * Everything was pre-measured * We weren't told what everything was at the time (given copies of full recipes at end) so we didn't even know what spices/seasonings we were adding to the food except the things we were chopping. * slightly unprofessional that chef was telling us of how we were a good class "compared to past bridal parties I've had" * can't take leftovers to go The menu as listed on their website when we made the reservations: Recipes: * Lobster Cakes with Champagne Butter Sauce * Herb-Crusted Beef Tenderloin Stuffed with Wild Mushrooms * Asparagus with Roasted Shallot Pancetta Vinaigrette * Blue Cheese Soufflé with Baby Greens * Key Lime Cranberry Cheesecake with Chocolate Crumb Crust (sample, pre-made)

The "class" was much more of a demonstration than a class, most of the items were already pre prepped and ready. For instance the pate a choux we were "making" already had everything in a pot measured out. There was only a job for a single person to participate, one person stood at the pot and waited for it to boil and then she added in the flour while it was stirred. My friends and I were a group of 7 and there were an additional 8 people and it was pretty cramped in the space. I was also put off by the cleanliness. Clearly this kitchen doesn't have a decent exhaust system the fan is drooping and caked with filth. The vents were also caked with filth. And the two tables where you walk in we're piled with what looked like months of mail, empty boxes, and just overwhelming clutter. It is not the clean kitchen environment I'd expect of a place having classes. The marble island is not sealed which would leave it porous which concerns me on their ability or even concern with sanitizing it. We were making paella and when one in our group mentioned that she won't eat shrimp the chef seemed annoyed and asked if she could just pick them out. The only thing we all participated in was cutting tomatoes, onions, and garlic. Everything else was preprepped, measured, or someone swooped in and tossed it in a pan while one person was stirring. I'm sure other things would allow for more group involvement but a one pan dish did not. Sorry to say I don't think I'll be returning. Fortunately my friends and I can make a good time out of anything so we did have fun spending time together.

I was told that gift certificates never expire and I needn't worry, but I insisted that be marked on the certificate itself, so she begrudgingly changed it to March 31, 2021 (a 3 month extension). During that 3 month time the shop location in Haddonfield closed, so in April I called the proprietor, Kathy, for an update and class location information. First, I got evasive answers about her relocating the shop somewhere she wouldn't say, and then when I mentioned the now-expired gift cert, she condescendingly snipped 'I told you before they never expire!'. When I countered that if that were true then why did she date it for March, she became melodramatic and accused me of yelling at her (funny, she was 'yelling' at me) and curtly told me that she would just give me a refund (as if I don't deserve to take her class for questioning her - lol). I readily agreed. Based on the other Yelp reviews that I've now read, I'm so glad that we did not give this miserable and clearly troubled woman our money and patronage. I received a check from her and went straight to her bank and cashed it out. Done. We will go enjoy some red wine and cooking at Sur La Table. What a pathetic excuse of a businesswoman.

Perhaps this is common knowledge in the neighboring senior communities among the early bird special crowd, but it's a new discovery for me after having lived in Brick over twelve years. There's a culinary school at OCVTS in their Brick location. During the school year, they offer lunch from 11:30 to 2:30 I believe from Wednesday to Friday. So I stopped by yesterday to check it out. Apparently each day they have a theme. Yesterday it was Southern /Cajon. For my appetizer, I ordered the a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, which was redolent with the flavor of the dark tan roux and was well seasoned, and to my surprise, mildly (for me) spiced even before I added the Tabasco sauce. It was a well made gumbo. I initially ordered the fried chicken entre, which came with collard greens and mac and cheese. I love collard greens and these were well prepared, as was the mac and cheese (To be honest, mac and cheese is a dish that you have to go out of your way to screw up.). However, the fried chicken was not as deftly prepared. Granted, it was three huge pieces of chicken, the size of my head (I can see why this place is popular with the senior crowd). First, it was was smothered in gravy. Now, that's not really a critism in itself, but I don't like anything on the chicken after it's fried so it stays crispy. But as soon as I put the fork into the thigh piece the entire breading seemed to slide off. Apparently they have to revisit frying 101, as do ssooo many commercial cooks. Realizing that this is a school, I felt bad sending it back, but I really wanted to enjoy the meal. So ignoring the Italian tradition of not eating fish with cheese, I ordered the blackened catfish with a Parmesan breading crust. The fish was well cooked, but the crust was overly salty. The meal was rounded out with chocolate rice pudding (now that's thinking out of the box!) that was very good. All through the meal I had unlimited refills of their excellent home brewed ice tea and some good coffee at the end Total tab $ 7.00, not including tip. How can you beat that? There were a few hiccups as I've pointed out. I wasn't pulling my punches because it's a school. But, for around the price of a happy meal you get great quality freshly prepared food served with cloth napkins. Next time I'm doing errands in Brick and want a bite for lunch, it's not gonna be pizza.

The overall purpose of the market is to feel full, and to feel like one of hundreds of people. And there are so many visitors around lunchtime and later. The walkways between the various cafes, bakeries, and food spots wer streams and rivers of hungry people. So many options of local Pennsylvanian delicacies were available, and seating was plentiful. There was a main seating area in the middle of the market, where you could see classes of high school students being lectured by teachers, workers on their lunch hour nibbling on a snack, and tourists and visitors frantically looking at all the visual splendor and fragrant cookery. Each individual business in the market has something to contribute to the overall experience. If you are close to the market, I recommend going during breakfast, lunch, and dinner to see the difference in food options. I also recommend going before lunch because it is usually a little less packed. Parking is going to be a hassle, so find parking where you can, and try to walk there!
