Dr. Rotholz has been my optometrist for eight years now. My wife has been his patient for even longer. My experience couldn't be better. Dr. Rotholz and his team offer a rare combination of efficient professionalism and personal touch. This starts when entering the office where the patients are greeted with a friendly smile and right away get the sense that all the preparation is already taken care of. The thoughtful and efficient staff, along with careful scheduling, lead to almost no wait times - at least in my experience. Everyone knows their job and does it extremely well and relates to the patients in a friendly, personal manner. I had tried progressives many years ago but I couldn't adjust to them. The current ones I adjusted to almost immediately and they've made such a big difference. I want to wear them all the time. Pros and cons ... Pros: 1. Every single staff member from the receptionists, to the techs, to the doctor I saw, is extremely friendly and personable and very skilled in what they do; 2. Techs are very good in conducting the pre-tests and vigilant in cleaning every machine before use; 3. Receptionists follow through with sending the claim to the insurance provider; 4. Excellent office location (5 minute walk from Museum subway station); 5. I got many email reminders in my in-box, reminding me about my appointment. 6. The staff (Brandon) at the eyeglass store is knowledgeable and honest with his feedback on frames that suit/do not suit your face. THEIR FRAMES ARE PRICEY, but really good quality AND THERE'S ABSOLUTLY NO PRESSURE WHATSOEVER TO PURCHASE THEIR GLASSES. Cons: only one ... my appointment was for 4:15pm ... the doctor saw me at 5:30pm ... I was forced to sit there for one hour and 15 minutes with no one telling me how long my wait was going to be (just that 'the doctor is running late')! After 10, 15 or 20 minutes go by, you start saying to yourself "I'm sure he'll call me in the next 5 minutes," but to have to wait 75 minutes, that's insane!!!!! Considering I was a new patient & this was my first time at this clinic, I didn't think that made for a good first impression and well, it was just disrespectful and unprofessional behaviour, that's all. Fortunately, I didn't have any plans after my appointment and the doctor was so very pleasant, that it was difficult to stay annoyed and irritated with him. I'll have to think about whether I return to this clinic in 2 years time, when it's time for another eye exam. read more

I have now been back to View Eye Care for my second visit, and I find them to be very good and thorough. Admittedly, they are more expensive compared to other places, but since my insurance covers most of the cost, I would say that it is worth the extra. The office is very bright and clean, and they seem to have the most up-to-date equipment. Their front desk staff are very friendly and professional, and submitted my insurance claim electronically for me. In addition to my eye exam, I also had the full series of computerized eye scans done since it had been a few years since my last exam. These are optional and done at an additional cost, but I was advised of this in advance. The technician was also very friendly and professional. My optometrist for both visits was Dr Peter Milonas, and I find him to be very thorough, and he explains each step as we go thru the exam. The fees were $139 for the exam, and $80 for the scans. They also have an optician in the office, from whom I got my current glasses (but did not need to see her this time as no changes were required). As I always just get a simple pair of frames, I can only say that they have a reasonable selection available, depending on what you're looking for I guess. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the service there, and expect I will return in a few years. read more

I am so impressed with this eye clinic and the incredibly amazing Dr Mike Rotholz. I had some last minute problems with my eyes last week and they fit me in right away that day. Dr. Mike was extraordinarily patient, kind and very thorough making sure no stone was unturned. He spent a lot of time with me going that extra mile to make sure there were no issues. He's now even sending me to a specialist to double check and also made sure I kept in touch with him over the weekend to monitor if my condition was getting worse. I have never seen a doctor go above and beyond the way he does. He emailed me a few times over the weekend checking in. I can't tell you how impressed I was with that! This place is very expensive that even having two comprehensive health plans didn't cover my visit. I also waited a long time to be helped even though I had an appointment and everything was rushed. I finally got my contacts and I knew they were not the correct prescription (I was told that my prescription had not changed in the appointment, and the contacts I got were way weaker than my previous prescription by 0.75 which makes no sense at all) so I called the office to tell them. They said that was the correct prescription that the doctor wanted me to have and to try them on, so I did. I couldn't see at all so I called back and they said they would schedule me an appointment. I was sent an email saying that they had rescheduled a lens fitting appointment and that I would need to pay $225 for it. I told them that my old prescription was fine and I would not pay that-I just wanted my old prescription back. They relented and let me exchange, but someone who was more agreeable or who did not remember their old prescription would probably just be ripped off. read more

After my horrendous experience at Toronto Eye Care (just down the street) almost two years ago I have avoided updating my prescription in Toronto. Yes it was that scarring.... Anyways, I gave this place a try after the glowing reviews that I read below and booked an appointment with Dr Mike. The location is extremely convenient and the office itself is very nice and clean. There was almost zero wait time as a staff came and did the preliminary exams with me as soon as I sat down, ready to read the magazine that I brought with me. Dr Mike is friendly and thorough and walked through all part of the exam with me and explained as much as he could. Understanding that I order my contacts online, Dr Mike provided me with copies of my prescription for contacts and glasses with no questions asked as I was walking out, not forcing me to get my lenses or contacts at their office. He also recommended new contacts that are suitable for my dry eyes that turned out to be fantastic. Needless to say, I am very happy about how I was treated at this office. The receptionist was also happy to file the claim to my insurance for me, saving me paperwork troubles. read more

This clinic is one of the few that has an on-premise lab so you can get your glasses made within 20 minutes! I had gotten my prescription from a different optometrist and brought the script to View Eye Care to get glasses made, which was done on the spot, same day. The prescription from the other optometrist turned out to be much too strong and gave me headaches. I returned to View Eye Care and Dr. Blanc was able to do a re-check and write me the correct prescription. They then remade my glasses with the new prescription for free! I just had my first appointment at View Eyecare and it was completely positive from beginning to end. They were on time, very efficient, friendly, took lots of time to explain procedures and tests prior to doing them. Dr. Peter (Milonas) was fabulous - extremely patient focused and made sure that I understood everything he told me. They also dispense eyewear and had a very good variety at competitive prices. I ordered new glasses and will look forward (pun intended) to receiving them. Crystal Hussey, Ophthalmic Technician, took lots of time to walk me through frame choices that would fit my face, my lifestyle and my lenses. I wasn't loving my eye doctor. He was okay, but I felt like the customer service wasn't great and I didn't feel like it was as thorough an exam as I would like it to be. I began to wonder what it would be like to go elsewhere (it costs a bit more, but I was willing to try, after all this is my health) since I was overdue for an eye exam. I did some research and came across this place. I originally tried to book with Dr. Mike (the head honcho) but he wasn't in on the day I wanted, but Dr. Cheryl Talsky was. So maybe the planets wanted me to go her. What the heck! I booked it. Their office, by the way is wonderfully organized. As soon as you book, they send you an email confirmation (no smoke signals like in the olden days) that states the date and time of your appointment, along with the new patient form to fill out (so you don't have to worry about doing it when you arrive, done and done), as well as a list of what to bring with you (eye glasses, sun glasses, contact lenses, medications etc), which I found to be really helpful, since my eye appointments are not a weekly or monthly event, what to bring to them generally isn't on my mental roster. I showed up for my appointment to find a nicely designed office, super friendly staff and what looks to be a eye glass store right inside the main area. When the assistant (who tests your sunglasses for uv protection) asked for my sunglasses, I cringed, thinking I'd get laughed outta there (they were from Ardene - 3 pairs for $10). But no! He said all of them were 100% UV protected! *insert happy dance moves here* He also said that a woman had come in with $600 Tiffany sunglasses that were not UV protected. I must admit that made me pretty darn happy (yeah, even the part about the lady's expensive sunglasses, not very Buddhist of me, I know). So anyway, this same guy did a whole slew of tests (I'm pretty sure I've never had these done before) before I met Dr. Talsky. She's awesome (and glam)! Friendly, outgoing, good attention to detail. She dilated my pupils (they had warned me about this when I booked my appointment, so I knew what to expect) and then led me to the sitting area to wait a few minutes. Then she came back and we checked my eyes and she took all the time necessary to explain everything. I explained that money was a concern and that I don't have a few hundred bucks to spend on reading glasses. She led me over and introduced me to Crystal (who is one of the lovely eye glass people). Crystal checked my latest glasses (turns out they were arced and uneven - paid over $100 bucks for em with a groupon) and also said to go ahead and try the cheapo (dollar store/shoppers) ones because - unlike what I'd been led to believe from my last eye doctor - both eyes have the same prescription, so I could do that! Bonus note: The Bloor & Avenue Rd Winners had boxes of 3 designer (Alfred Sung?) reading glasses for $15 with funky frames. WIN. WIN. Needless to say, my experience could not have been better. My boyfriend is planning on booking with them when it's time for his eye update (obviously, I'm not an eye doctor either, given my swanky terminology). Definitely book your appointment here. Went to View Eye Care a year ago for an initial appointment. Service seemed good and professional but expensive. First time I've been to a medical related facility where we were "upsold" on everything and walked out paying an exorbitant fee. Despite this, when we received our reminder for our annual checkup we decided to try again. Appointment was confirmed by their office by email two days before. On arrival we were told the appointment had been cancelled and the doctor had left for the day. No alternative solution was provided - only a shrug of the shoulders, not even an apology. Highly unprofessional and uncompromising - won't see us again! read more

I had been going to View Eye Care for many years and for the past number of years had been having issues with my contacts and also having to wear reading glasses for computer work. In addition, after having suffered a minor eye injury I had two medical doctors remark alarmingly at the physiological changes taking place due to reduced oxygen levels to my eye due to the wrong type of contacts. To make a long story short, this clinic did nothing to address these issues when they were raised and in fact, said the physio changes were nothing to worry about and attempted to skirt liability by suggesting I was not using the contacts properly. I since have switched clinics and my new optometrist immediately changed my contact type and prescription and I can see perfectly without the use of reading glasses and now have no issues at all with my contacts.
