What a little gem! I would give them 6 stars if I could, alas! This little restaurant is run by a Vietnamese family, who almost went to the US but the Austrian got them at the last minute, lucky them! Service: excellent! Friendly but not overbearing. When we got to the restaurant all the seats were taken. We were told by an apologetic waiter about a 30 min wait. However someone leaves and we were promptly seated in less than 5 min. Win! Atmosphere: cozy, clean, comfortable and stylish furniture. Not extravagant but simply just lovely. (No typical Asian cluttery, which is VERY difficult for us Vietnamese, so they should get an extra star for that :) ) Food: super fresh ingredients. But then again maybe that is just European style! And boy, people weren't kidding about the authenticity. I assure you that this little restaurant sticks to the original motherland recipes and styles, and even enhance it further by actually making their beef stock from real beef instead of MSG. In the US most dishes are Americanized a bit, mostly to reflect the abundance of meat and eggs so not necessary a bad thing. However it is refreshing to see dishes prepared how they would be at a high end restaurant in Saigon. We can testify for their ph, bún bò Hu, fresh spring rolls, and papaya salad. Location: in the middle of downtown, take the U to the center stop and this restaurant is right there. Prices: €€ is correct, expect €20 or more per person for main course, drinks and appetizers. However it is totally worth it. Will come back if we are in the area Overall: a wonderful find! It is weird to recommend an Asian restaurant when there are so many delicious Austrian restaurants in the area, but in a sense, this reflects the diversity and cultural richness of globalization. This is a small place hidden around the corner at the south end of the Kärtnerstraße shopping area, near the Karlsplatz and Karlskirche. My colleague and I were actually lucky to have timed it perfectly when visiting the place because a few minutes later, the place was already full, and the owner had tell incoming customers to come back in about an hour because there were no more tables available. That already tells you how popular the establishment is, even if it can be hard to find for someone who is not familiar with this area. As for the food itself, it was fantastic. The Vietnamese spring rolls were hot and fresh out of the fryer, with a leaf of lettuce under each roll and some dipping sauce. There are many other healthy and delicious choices at this place, and I really wanted to try the Vietnamese pancake that was filled with a variety of items, but I settled with the pho. I just couldn't help myself; it was chilly outside, and naturally I was just in the mood for hot soup. The pho was outstanding. The broth was rich, savory, and flavorful. The portion was just right, and it came with a side of fresh bean sprouts, basil, coriander, and a lime wedge. The service was excellent, and is also tourist and expat-friendly. Ohhhhh how could I have JUST discovered this place 2 weeks before I leave Vienna?! The food here is amazing. Brilliant flavours, great menu choices (with veggie options) and really great service. We were a group of 14 and the place is quite small so I wasn't sure how they would deal with us...And I am happy to report that the staff were brilliant. It has been a long, long time since I have had service as enjoyable as that in Vienna - so thank you Vietthao! I had the Mango-Schrimps Salat for starter which came with coarsely crushed peanuts on the top giving it a great texture. The flavours were great. I really enjoyed it. For main course I had the "Reismehlflade" - Vietnamese pancake which came with fish and meat inside (schrimps, calamari and pork). I asked the waiter for his help and he came and showed us how we should eat it....Open the pancake, add the salad leaves and herbs, close it back up and eat it with the fish sauce on the side. Extremely tasty and filling. I would highly recommend this restaurant...I have been to a few Vietnamese restaurants in Vienna and this is at the top of my list now. read more

I ordered the phone (based on the waiter's recommendation), and the rest of the party had crispy duck, a shrimp curry duah and a veggie dish My pho was good, but I thought it could use a bit more star anise. My wife's crispy duck was very good. It was very crispy and was served on top a bed of seasoned mung beans sprouts. My BIL's shrimp was delicious. Probably one of the best Vietnamese food I've ever eaten (and I've eaten a lot of it around the globe). Here is an Authentic kitchen, prepared by a true chef. I ordered the Goi Dudu papaya salad- which was extremely tangy, spicy and fresh, and aromatic. Also ordered were delicious summer roles, and what was by far the best Pho Bo I've had in my life. The quality of the beef was extraordinary, and so was everything else. For dessert came a beautiful glass containing a rice ball sweet, in ginger coconut and honey sauce. Fabulous! read more

Solid food, great flavors. We were out in Vienna and wanted some good Asian food so we stumbled upon this place and noticed it had good reviews. I will say that the portion sizes are fairly generous and the flavors are pretty good for a Vietnamese place. I wound up getting a chicken dish which was relatively spicy and definitely made me want to eat more! My friend enjoyed his dish as well and also noted that the Vietnamese coffee was fantastic (as long as you know how to make the coffee if it's deconstructed for you). All in all, this is a pretty good place for a quick meal with some affordable prices! I'd highly recommend that if you want Vietnamese food, you come here and try this place out :) read more

worst restaurant in Vienna! the waiters were very impatient. i understand that many of the tables had the sign RESERVED, so obviously we cant sit. we asked for a to go plate and sat on one of the empty tables without the RESERVED sign. the waiter was mad at us and yelled"you have to go when someone comes! i said i need the table!" so i asked, is it reserved? and he said yes. how on earth would i know that the table is reserved if it doesnt have a sign on it? and you havent already told me so. you just yell at your guest? when we took the dish home to eat, which was only 500 meters away. we found the rice was very warm but the meat and vegetables were stone cold, especially the inside of the meat. i wonder if the meat was left over. when we were first handed the dish, i felt it was a bit cold but i didnt know that it was that cold. i should have yelled at the waiter in the first place and demand him to change. but now its all too late and all i can do is to leave a comment here and warn the other guests not to come. havent seen a restaurant as bad as this one throughout the four countries that im visiting on his european trip. read more

Delicious and superb. My friend and I (both Vietnamese) ordered Banh Cuon, Pho Bo and Bun Bo Hue + Che Choui (desert) and it did really taste hilarious. We both cook a lot and had nothing to complain about (maybe the interieur should be better decorated and taken care of). It is authentic, all herbs needed are served properly for every dish and the prices are moderate. Even though it took a while until the meals are served (it was really crowded), it is worth waiting. And the service is very kind. Tip: it says "pikant"/spicey on the menu. For those who are mild-eating-spicey-eaters, I recommend telling the service that they should put less spice into your dishes, because it is rather medium hot+. One of our favorite meals in Vienna. Small place with maybe a dozen 2-4 top tables, it smells amazing as you enter. We stopped by one night after the Opera, as it was in easy walking distance and great Yelp reviews. Filled with locals, we were the only ones who were speaking English. The Pho was some of the best I've ever had (and, admittedly we do eat a lot of Pho). Very generous portions and great, warm service. Also had the tofu spring rolls which were clearly freshly made and delicious. If we'd been in Vienna longer I'm sure we'd have gone back. read more

I had this restaurant's version of bun bo hue, thit kho, and the shrimp spring roll. The bun bo hue was excellent. The broth was flavorful and clean. The use of a thinner bun noodles compared to the thicker traditional noodle is excellent. The dish is nice and spicy and true to its origins. The depth of flavor is excellent and I've eaten all over Vietnam as well as "Little Saigon" in California as this is my favorite Vietnamese soup dish. Being Vietnamese, I do miss some of the rustic ingredients such as the banana shoots but I assume it's not something you can find easily in Vienna. The thit kho is definitely unique as I have never had a deep fried egg in this dish. This is a classic dish that is normally made with fish sauce, pork, boiled eggs, and coconut juice. So to see a new twist and one that is excellent was quite the treat. I know, it's not mind blowing stuff but when you have eaten the same dish for 40 years, a new addition is life changing. The spring roll was definitely good. The ingredients are very clean and fresh. Overall, the quality of food and clean tasting ingredients in this restaurant is some of the best Vietnamese food I've had anywhere in the world. I know that this is a bold statement but if you consider the cleanliness of the water in Vienna, the quality of pork/beef in Vienna, and the innovated twists by the restaurant, it makes much sense. (*I was totally joking) but it turned out to be. lol I peeped the pics on yelp and was like, "Are they sure it's not Thai!?" Hence, I "had to" try it. If not for the Viennese take on the authenticity at least for the experience. Needless to say, it wasn't what I was expecting. It was a pleasant surprise. Not the typical stuff found in SF's TenderLoin, Garden Grove or Rosemead back in California...but then again, I've never been to Vietnam so who knows!? Maybe the flavor WAS more authentic! This place was a solid place for good Viet food. My husband loves pho and he really enjoyed his beef pho. In NYC it's hard to find a tasty alternative to beef pho but they have chicken pho here! The broth was super flavorful. The fried spring rolls were also really good- not too thick but lightly fried. Props to the service also. Try to call ahead for a table. If not and you go early enough they will give you a table as long as you are out before the guests for reserved tables arrive. read more

I'm not a pho expert. But this is by far the best place to eat a pho in Vienna. They take their them making the pho, but when you taste it, you know right away it was made fresh. We ordered shrimp spring rolls, and they tasted awesome. Problem with this restaurant is the limited space (do reserve ahead of time) , and the over worked waiters. Who don't always response to your needs immediately. Otherwise I totally would recommend that you try out the place. I also found that the prices are very reasonable. Update : took us like 15-20 minutes to get the bill. At the end my wife got up and paid.. Well, they saved money by not paying a tip. read more

I went there based on the good review of the food. Have to say that the food is pretty good, especially the cold roll with Chicken, and price is fine, 4.9 for 2 rolls. The Pho is very freshly made with great beef slices, however a bit on the salty side. It would be perfect if done lighter. Price is 9.9. But the service is not as perfect as the food. Do call and make a reservation before hand, otherwise you are gonna sit inside and it is extremely hot! Usually when some table opens up one can move outside. My veggie entree of cabbage was refreshing and delicious as I've eaten a Ton of meat this past week in Europe. The beef pho was traditional and great. The fried duck was very very good.
