The best Vietnamese food in Vienna. Period! After coming here for several months, I can say the everything on the menu is delicious. My favorite dish is 18a: a heaping bowl layered with shredded carrot and cabbage, rice noodles, pork strips, and crispy fried spring rolls. On top are peanuts and fried onions and there is a light and sweet sauce hiding at the bottom of the bowl. Once mixed together, this is like heaven in your mouth. Most people do take out here and they only have 2 tables inside and another two outside during warm months. From 19:00 to 20:00, the kitchen is swamped with take out orders, so table service slows down for a bit. Get there by 19:00 to easily get a table. But if you get there when they're busy, trust me, the food is well worth the wait. All of the food is made to order and the husband-wife team running the place are impressively efficient considering the small kitchen and busy dinner rush. Congrats Happy Vietnam! You win the money! (well, not really money, but you know what I mean) Based on all of the review here, and a careful examination of the menu, I, like many fellow Yelpers decided to get the pho. For those of you who don't know pho (at least here) is a bowl of noodles, a protein (of choice), broth, greens, and a few fried onions on top. This bowl was so large after I devoured its contents, I had to loosen my belt by a notch. Not something that's particularly easy to make up. It was that good. At one point I even stopped eating for a couple minutes to make sure I wasn't going to burst my stomach. Worth it! The broth was delicious, it was very mild, not too oily or salty (just as good broth should be). Noodles were plentiful (although they were so long that it would have been better if they were a bit shorter) There was enough chicken in the dish, just the right amount. I find that if you overload a dish (especially one like this) with protein, the balance is thrown off. Greens and other ingredients were also in good amounts, and everything complimented everything else wonderfully. I will also say you have an option of a spicy pepper slice on top. While eating the whole thing will singe your tastebuds, if you break off little pieces and eat it bit by bit, it gives the dish a wonderful kick. Service was friendly and quick! Especially for dishes that are prepared from scratch. I am excited to return here and try other wonderfully delicious dishes! read more

After looking at 10+ stores on Yelp and staring at all Pho's pictures. I decided to try Pho at Happy Vietnam. The reason why I so picky is because I'm from Vietnam so I looked at the broth before choosing anything :). It's a small store and the owner make foods fresh so you will have to wait a little bit, but it definitely worth it. The Pho broth is very very good. Usually restaurants will make the broth sweet like southern vietnam, but Pho is from the north of vietnam and the broth shouldn't taste sweet. Their broth was very good. Other than that, the meat was tender and slice thin. I also asked for the spicy chilli and lemon, real Pho always have both! The owners were very friendly and nice. The restaurants are clean If I have a chance to visit Vienna again, I will for sure stop by Happy Vietnam. P/S: pho in the US can't even compared :). Ok, let's talk about the food: - the spring roll is just cabbage, beansprout and basic stuff- didn't have other veggies or green herbs. Very basic and bland. - pork vermicelli bowl, didn't have much pork. Tasted like vinegar was added to the bowl or fish sauce. It wasn't very tasty- probably the least liked vermicelli bowl I've had in the world (and I've had quite a few around the globe) When we first arrived, we placed our order - all seats are full and we were asked to return in 10 mins. This place was recommended me by a friend. After few visits I could say that it is one of the best places in Vienna where you could eat a bowle of authentic Vietnamese Pho. Beef Pho: the soup was clear without oily film yet soo rich in flavor that I even drank all the broth after finished eat noodles & co. It was a good amount of meat in my beef Pho, and a lot of fresh herbs, also the thinly sliced red onion added the freshness to the soup and noodle. I also recommend to add a little sriracha. Not only it looks nice but also enhance the the taste in another way. If you like spicy. Also the fried crispy spring rolls (wrapped in rice papers I think, filled with meat&veggies, comes in 4 pcs) and the regular Vietnamese spring rolls (comes in 3 pcs and a delicious sauce with crushed peanuts on it) also taste very yummy! The place is very small and only two tables and a bar with some stuhls, but very homey and relaxed. The price range is normal consider it as a quick meal place. A lot people go there for takeouts. This is a terrific restaurant run by a middle age couple. I am from Los Angeles and of Vietnamese origin; I can say the food here is authentic. For a tiny establishment like this, the food and the service is really good. I had a bowl of beef pho, which met my expectations. It was served very hot, and I believe the sliced beef was rare until the pour the hot broth onto it. It had the right amount of bean sprouts and noodles. I only wish they had some more stuff on the side, like hot chilis, basil, or onions. The spring rolls were delicious, but served with sweet and sour sauce (which is more of a Western thing) instead of the usual nuoc mam (Vietnamese fish sauce, which is probably too strong for many locals or Westerners not used to this, even if it's usually diluted anyway). Other than that, the food here was good. I liked it so much that I ordered a fried rice with duck, to go, so that I could take it home and have it for dinner while watching a movie. It's usually better to come here during off-peak hours; otherwise there won't be any room to sit down or you're going have to take your order to go. read more

It was back in early April when I was there - fantastic Viet bun, traditional egg rolls! great super friendly service. The place is a little place off the beaten track, but if you are looking for good Asian food in the middle of Europe its a good one to hit up. The owner was so pleased that we stopped in late night for a bite to eat, he sat out at the tables with us to have a bier. This place may appear unassuming but it serves one of the best authentic Vietnamese food I have ever tasted. The lady owner was very pleasant and accommodating to my son's dietary requirements due to his allergies. She made very good recommendations and she was willing to slightly tweak the cooking to accommodate to our request. My sister and I combed Vienna to find an asian place to eat at because we were pretty tired of the traditional food after having toured Europe for a few weeks. We went here several days ago, and man, was I glad we found this place. The staff was super happy to see us probably because we are vietnamese so we chatted with them about their restaurant and about where we were coming from, etcetc. We ordered two bun thit nuongs (rice noodles with grilled meat) and watched them cook it up. They cook the bun in an untraditional style in which they toss the noodles with everything in a wok. I was pretty surprised by that because they put the fish sauce in while they do that rather than provide it separately. When they served it to us, they served it with the biggest smile in the entire world. I felt like I was eating at home. They asked us if we needed anything else but didn't hover over us. The dish itself was great - very fresh ingredients, the meat was cooked well and had an excellent grilled flavor, plus big portions! I really enjoyed getting to know them during my stay and hope to see them again when I visit Vienna! read more

In defense of the staff, they tried really hard but we waited forever, our order was messed up more than once, and it was a hot day and the only place to sit was a counter right by the kitchen, so it was really hot. Even though the staff was extremely friendly and pleasant the food couldn't hold up. The soup was tasteless, the ingredients tasted stale (not quite old yet but definitely not fresh. The food here is in such stark contrast to another Asian restaurant in this area namely Thai Isaan on Gumpendorferstrasse which consistently sets the benchmark for freshness and taste.
