I've been wanting to come here for a while now. Ugh so delicious! I got a pho ga (chicken pho) and it was delicious!! I also got the shaken beef and it was delicious as well. The shaken beef was a bit on the salty side but still very delicious. I want to try the spicy noddle soup next time. But overall great food with fast service. The waiter suggested items and took our order quick. He came to refill water as needed. The inside is pretty chill. On the outside it looks small but once you walk in there is ample space. 7 years later I am changing my review. Been there again and food excellent and timing was perfect. I got the broken rice chicken and shrimp and the Banh Xeo which was also really good. Thin rice crepe and inside was onions shrimp pork and bean sprouts served with fresh lettuce and mint with dipping sauce nuoc cham. Service was great. Glad to see they're still around. I couldn't really taste the star anise or much of anything else other than a mild savory beef broth. Weirdly they also sprinkle in black pepper into the soup? Came here the first time to try their Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Beef Noodle) because this is the only Vietnamese restaurant in Chico that serves it.. it wasn't too bad, they also give blood chunks with the dish which is good - if you're adventurous, definitely try it! The noodles that were served were thin vermicelli noodles, which is a different take on this dish because BBH is usually served with thicker vermicelli noodles. But overall, not too bad - I know I can come here if I'm ever craving BBH noodles.. Came back a second and third time for their beef pho. The first time, the broth was a little sweeter.. the second time, the broth was a little saltier, but that's okay.. i like both styles of broth. They do give a good amount of beef slices and beef ball in the bowl and it's pretty well portioned. However, I do wish they had other options for pho, like combination pho with: tripe, flank steak, beef ball, rare steak, brisket etc.. something more than the 3-4 that they have on the menu.. The service is pretty slow .. we went during a lunch rush once - that took a really long time.. then went on a Sunday morning when they opened and that took even longer... there was only one other person that was in the restaurant when we arrived & the food did take a really long time to get to us...Our server was yawning the whole time and he just looked sooo tired.. But - overall, after trying EVERY Vietnamese restaurant in Chico, I can honestly say this is one of the top 2 places to get good pho. If I could do negative stars I would. I was extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service. I've been coming here for over a year. I have a severe food allergy to tomato and I've never had to worry about it with pho. It's not listen on their menu but the tofu pho randomly had tomato in it and at this point my group had eaten. I only requested my meal to be taken off since we had to go. The owner started getting combative, argumentative and the whole situation was incredibly awkward. I WOULD NOT EAT HERE. If they had refused the refund but suggested a remake I would've taken that but that wasn't even offered. This place is SO good! I always get the chicken noodle pho and am more than pleased. The serving size is a good amount and the broth is so flavourful and delicious. The staff is always super friendly as well and the atmosphere is pretty nice, it almost feels like you're in someone's home and eating a homemade meal. In addition to that the takeout is great too. I've gone here twice since moving to Chico, and while the food is good, I have to make a comment about the customer service of the little old lady who works there. I ordered a standard fountain drink soda and their menu clearly states FREE REFILLS. As she went by I asked her if she could refill my glass. She said, there are no free refills but you can buy another one. I replied "but your menu says they are." She shrugged and didn't seem to care. This is one of those tougher reviews to right. Quality: The food was 5 stars! The best pho in Chico. Seriously, this is the best vietnamese food I have ever eaten. The egg roll appetizers were delicious and so was the steak and rice. The lemonade was also of a unique taste. Value: 4 stars. Basically $3 for the drink. $12 for my main dish (steak and rice). The portions were not large but the quality was best. It was enough for me to feel satisfied. Atmosphere: 3 stars. Entering the place the green room is the classiest. Perhaps it was newly remodeled. This room is 5 stars. Next to is the 4 star yellow room. The front counter is a low 2 stars. Its rinkie dink and cluttered with kitchen stuff. The path to the restroom passes through a storage room. The restroom itself smells bad. Service: 2 stars. The other Yelp reviews about the slow service were right. They took the better part of 16 minutes to bring the appetizer, about the same for my main course. I was with my friend whose order had not arrived. He encouraged me not to wait for his so I ate up while it was fresh. My friend's came after I finished mine. Parking was in the back with one road to go in and another to go out. There is not a lot of parking though and I am inclined to park across the street. Overall the experience was a 3.5 but the food was so good I have to give it a 4 star rating. My advice is to order ahead or have it delivered to escape the wait time. read more
