"The Video Game Wizard," a place that was disappointing, I've been looking for a nice retro game store near me for a while and I sadly have to admit that this will not be it. So I have been to this store multiple times, probably about 5 times now and I have a fairly decent idea of how business works there, and I have been to his flea market shop about 3 times as well. So my first experience at this store wasn't a very good one, it was a weekend when me and my friends went there, the owner was away at a flea market and his mom was the only one there, she was left in charge of the store while he was away. The lady was nice enough, but when I asked her about prices she said that she had no idea what the prices even were so she just said hold on while she took out here phone and called her son and for the next 15 minutes they argued about prices and what they had, and the prices were not bad but they were more than I was willing to pay so I tried talking to the lady about if she could work with me on the price and she was unsure and asked her son on the phone if he would do that price and after awhile of arguing he just hung up on her, so what she said was that she would work on the price with me a bit, she wrote me up a receipt and I turned to my friends and they started to rush out the door, this is where the interior of the store comes into play, as we walked out we saw a cockroach on the floor and my friends told me that they saw others on the shelves as they were looking through the place, is the store there was unorganized games and shelves in the middle of the room and the back corner was stacked full of junk, so much so that it made it hard to get to some original xbox games. My friends outside of the store told me that it was a fairly gross place as they saw while I was speaking to the Lady at the store, they said that most of the games on the shelf had cases in horrible condition and were covered in either condiments or some form of food or grunge. The game that we bought didn't work so me and one friend went back and the lady was still there and she traded it out for another copy that did work, but both copies were heavily scratched. Every single encounter with this store and flea market stand that I had ended in disappointment, I had to come back more often than not due to the game not working and having to have it traded out, the owner of the store has mostly fair deals in his store, some games are priced a bit too much, but he will only haggle so much with you. The older lady (his mother), would constantly yell at her son and argue, and she would even tell some customers that they have been struggling ever since they opened, and that they were going to go out of business multiple times and that they don't even make enough money to sustain themselves and she would even go as far as asking me to buy something because they need the money. After going to the shop for the first time my friends and I looked reviews on google to see if the place was real, and most reviews ripped on the place pretty hard and most points made in the reviews that are negative are legit, while most of the positive reviews are obviously fake and made by the owner or his friends. Lots of reviews have common points such as the people there are kinda rude, they don't look clean, the store is nasty and bug infested, and it is not family friendly. He responds to some of the just calling them "troll" comments, when the only troll comments are the ones he made himself. I have even seen a review by the owner of one of the local retro game stores M and M video games, and he has said that they have been scammed by the Video Game Wizard and that they are banned from his store for pretty much trying to rob them by selling them broken games and selling them to people in the parking lot of m and m games, I have been to about 3 m and m games locations in the area and I have asked them about this guy and they have all had the same basic story. So the only reason I have gone back to the store is to give it the benefit of the doubt and think that they were having an off day, and that they had mostly decent prices, but the place has tried scamming me with my purchases and honestly now I'm kinda over it and the owners friends have started to be around the store more often and they have egged my friends on to buy garbage and to waste their money, yet when ask to see a game the friends won't help the owner. I don't like to compare this store to M and M games, but it is just so much better and the people take care of the games and clean them and test them out, I would strongly recommend skipping video game wizard and going to m and m games because everything that is wrong with video game wizard is fixed with m and m games. Moral of my story is that if you are looking for a retro game store, the video game wizard is not it. read more
