They explicitly gave me a flat price of $499 for a display replacement. Based entirely on that number, I took the time out of my day to drive down, drop off my machine, and pay a non-refundable $30 diagnostic fee. However, once they had my laptop completely disassembled on their workbench, the price suddenly jumped by $100 to a new quote of $599. When I questioned why the price changed from their written quote, they claimed that the initial $499 price was actually only for a "B-Grade" used screen with scuffs and scratches on the outer casing. If I wanted a normal-looking, flawless screen ("A-Grade"), I had to pay the higher premium. They had my exact model number from the very first text. Withholding information about different "grades" of used parts until a customer's laptop is already taken apart in your shop is a highly deceptive business practice. Had they been transparent upfront that a standard screen replacement would cost $599, I would have opted to go to the Apple Store instead of wasting my time and money here. I paid the $30 fee just to get my laptop put back together and returned to me. Go to Apple or a more transparent shop that honors their initial quotes.

Instead the repair ordeal lasted 9 days. I use it for everything so, needless to say, it was an incredible interruption. Furthermore, her final, shoddy hack-job repair failed after only two weeks as the glass began lifting on the upper portion of my screen rendering my iPad essentially as junk. None of the buttons or tabs would work. I would have to turn it upside down to do functions! Initially, she 'accidentally' cut the camera cord on my $800 iPad. I had to wait NINE DAYS for her to finally get the replacement cable. She said she could get it by the next morning. She proffered excuse after excuse, day after day, and my 3-hour repair turned into 9-day ordeal. Needless to say, when I finally got my iPad back, I couldn't wait to get her completely out of my life. Unfortunately, after less than two weeks of her returning my iPad to me, with her replacement glass, it actually started lifting away from my iPad! Not wanting anything to do with her, or for her to get anywhere NEAR my iPad again, I took my iPad to another repair place. It was fixed beautifully and meticulously. It has worked wonderfully ever since. The company that fixed Diane's shitty hack job documented everything. Diane used SUPERGLUE around the entire perimeter of the glass and she didn't even clean up the shattered, shards of glass from when I originally broke it. If you value your electronic devices--keep them far away from her. Speaking of electronics - she is operating illegally. Any appliance or electronic repair company needs to be licensed with the Bureau of Electronic and Appliance Repair (BEAR). She is not licensed. Additionally, if she damages your devices, you have zero recourse because she has no address. Even her business card is void of her last name or a business address. Stay far away from Diane the Hatchet Fairy.

email thegadgetfairy1@gmail.com…read more On a business trip I cracked my ipad. It was "repaired" by another place (see review). It still did not work. Found Diane the Gadget Fairy at our local San Marcos Farmers Market which is on Wednesday afternoons. She completely redid the "repair" that was done and now my ipad looks and functions like new. She had to replace the glass/digitizer again which is $150. She also found that there was a missing piece, and the antenna was broken. This was included AND she gave me back the damaged parts. She has a background in engineering and really will take the time AND be VERY honest and upfront about what is needed. Mobile truck so she can come to you with her whole "office/repair center". She is in San Marcos on Wednesdays and I believe another market on another day. This is exactly the kind of person you want to repair it vs some young kid who wont really listen and really doesnt know what they are doing. THANK YOU Diane for saving me!!!

Fred diagnosed it and fixed it in the allotted time they told me it would take. At one point, they wanted me to come by and Fred wanted to show me the inner workings of the unit and showed me where some functions were obviously messed with by the previous owner. [this was purchased from an ebay seller, as in "working excellent shape". One thing to note for potential customers, if they tell you your stereo component will be ready in six to eight weeks it is because they are busy. If you want your classic audio system repaired by a pro, Fred is the way to go. He and Jimmy will take good care of it. Jimmy will also call you or send you a text with an update, if need be. Fred is a friendly guy and has a sense of humor. If you don't have a sense of humor you probably won't get his. Please make yourself aware of their hours -for- customer appointments. Keeping it simple: they are busy because they know what they are doing. I saw first hand the inventory of stereo units that are being repaired and on deck for repair. I am a business owner myself, the customer is so important, but it is important that the customer trust the business owner they are hiring. My CD player was fixed on time and works perfectly now. I can play all my favorite CDs, as well as, enjoy burning my own CD compilations [semi-old school] The sound and the clarity are perfect. Thank you Fred and Jimmy!
