UPDATE: Retaliatory Charges After Reporting - BEWARE!
Review:
I'm updating my review to reflect new developments since moving out of Vida at Georgetown, managed by RPM Living. What has happened since my initial post is nothing short of retaliatory, and I want others to be aware of how this company operates once you begin holding them accountable.
After I submitted my move-out notice in writing via email on May 26, 2025 (Memorial Day), I clearly communicated that possession of my unit (Apt 901) would be surrendered by the office's closing time on May 27, 2025. This email was never acknowledged, despite multiple follow-ups. Then, without my permission, someone from their maintenance staff unlawfully entered my unit on May 27, before I turned in the keys or had completed my move-out. They took photos of my belongings and even damaged a mounted sign. This was all captured on video -- including the maintenance worker admitting fault -- and posted in my original Yelp review for transparency.
To make matters worse, I later received a move-out statement charging me $1,428.60, including:
* $900 for repainting walls they claim were "dingy" -- even though the paint used was NOT scrub-friendly. I had reported this issue during my lease and was told any attempt to clean the walls would remove the paint itself.
* Charges for trash and cleaning, despite hiring a professional cleaning service at my own expense prior to move-out.
* Claims that they assumed I vacated early -- even though I explicitly emailed them my final possession date and never turned in my keys until the agreed time.
This all comes after I began leaving honest reviews and submitted complaints about the property. Based on the timeline and conduct, I strongly believe these charges are retaliatory. Several other tenants from the same property have since reached out to me, sharing similar issues with unit quality, poor communication, pest infestations, and unlawful entries -- especially after they began voicing concerns. One tenant had to switch units after moving in due to construction negligence. Another had their shower leaking through the ceiling due to poor installation. These issues are systemic, not isolated.
I've since joined other residents in preparing formal complaints to the following agencies:
* Texas Attorney General - Consumer Protection Division
* Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC)
* Better Business Bureau (BBB)
* HUD (Fair Housing and Retaliation Concerns)
* TDLR - Licensing/Regulation Review
RPM Living claims to offer "luxury living," but many residents are now learning the hard way that it's only skin deep. The outside might be new and modern, but what you're left with is rushed construction, careless management, and zero accountability when issues arise.
I also left a voicemail for Kelsey Lafko, RPM's Managing Director of Performance, at their corporate office on May 30 at 4:23 PM. As of today, I have received no response.
Let this review be a fair warning to future renters: document EVERYTHING. Screenshot every work order. Save every email. And be wary of management that refuses to communicate until you go public. read more
