I love barbeque and am always on the hunt for a new place to check out. I've heard of this place before, and came here with a fellow yelper to check things out. Walking in, the place is much larger than I had anticipated. That's a good thing. Plenty of seating and room to move about. I scoured the menu to see what they had which was a decent selection. Since I don't eat pork and my meat of choice is brisket, I kind of knew what I already wanted before even entering, so I knew what I wanted for the most part. They have meals here that are big and small. I went with a brisket sandwich that came with chips and a few extra bucks for a drink. While the pricing's competitive with others in the area, it was about $14.95 for my sandwich alone. If I wanted to change out my side of chips for anything else, it was a $2 upcharge. I'm okay with the $2 upcharge really, but to be honest, I wasn't overall impressed with their side selections. Usually, it's a pretty standard issue of things like baked beans, fried Okra, mac and cheese, etc. I didn't see any of those items on their sides. They had onion rings which is cool, but I was hoping for more. I did receive coleslaw with my meal which was actually a okay. I'm neither here nor there about coleslaw, but it was good at this location for the most part. On top of the lack of sides selection and random upcharge, ordering here can be a little confusing. You order at the counter, take a table number and seat yourself. Okay, cool. But they wait until the end to make you pay, not after you place your order with a waitress. Being that my friend and I were splitting our bill, we wanted to make sure things were separate. Plus what's the point of not paying at the counter? I'd rather do that then pay at the table. It's not like I'm going to continuously order more and more food. On the plus side, the servers did come to check on us on a regular basis, which we loved. Made sure we had everything we needed, but did not notice we were low on drinks and being that we were so involved in our conversation, we kept forgetting to ask. The staff here's friendly and knows their stuff which we loved! Food and service here was good, and I really loved coming here. I'd gladly dine in again as it was a great experience and I have no formal complaints. I will ask for chopped brisket next time but it was good and tasty when I ate here! read more

Open until 10pm, it's Monday. The staff failed to tell me on the phone that the smokehouse is currently closed, when I asked for their dining in hours. The smokehouse will open back up Tuesday, tomorrow. They were short staffed to run the smokehouse. We came to eat BBQ and had to order grilled food instead. Didn't feel like finding another place this late in the evening. We had to order food that could be cooked on the grill. Two dinner salads, one with fresh blue cheese, the other with Italian, chicken nachos, Turkey Reuben with tator tots. We got a number for the rest of our food to be delivered to our table. It's a country music bar. You pay for your food at your table with the waitress. The dinner salad was okay, had too much shredded cheese for me, had to take most of it off; since shredded cheese isn't my favorite on a salad. The nachos are just so-so, nice and cheesy at least. . The chicken isn't my favorite on it, it was definitely seasoned. It had both shredded cheese and the nacho cheese on the nachos. The Turkey Reuben would be better with a better and more standard thousand island dressing. They make their own with Mayo, ketchup and relish. Our waitress, Marilyn is nice, the rest of the staff are nice as well. read more

I want to come back and actually try the BBQ here. People seem to love it and it looks great. I attempted to the other night but I got there on a game night and they had to close the smokehouse early. I instead went with a French dip that was promptly put together and ready for takeout in all of 5 minutes. Impressive? Sadly not. I have to say this was maybe the single most pathetic French dip I've ever laid eyes on. I figured being a BBQ place I'd maybe get some flank steak or sirloin in there... It was cold cuts. It was like someone took half a pack of cold cut roast beef and just folded a stack of like 4-5 slices together gas station style and melted some cheese on it. A bread that all but completely melts in half a second of contact with the au jus. There was no way for the meat to grab any of the au jus which just tasted like water and a bullion cube anyhow. The onion petals it came with were good at least. Again this is a BBQ place that I attended when the BBQ was shut down for the day and I think this French dip was more of a special than a menu staple, but no one can seriously think this is good can they? I'll be back to try the BBQ soon and update my review. I'm sure it'll be great, but don't serve great BBQ and then have trash like this on the menu. This was embarrassing. read more

I was in town for business and tried Victory Smoke house last night. By way of background I used to be in the BBQ competition circuit and owned a BBQ catering business. My theory on BBQ joints is you can tell how authentic they are by the size of their wood pile. Victory Smokehouse was amazing! Their pit is a true BBQ pit and you can tell they have some pit masters tending their meat. The brisket was spot on, the burnt ends were incredible. The mac and cheese and greens were top level. So short notice from out of town family wanting to experience Detroit ribs. It was getting late so we did not have time to actually go to the city. A couple weeks ago we did one of the empty lot pop up ribs, chicken, sausage and so on hook ups. Those were on point I mean dang lip lick'n good and that was before the sauce. But this day, here we are. So we ordered a slab and my typical liking of brisket. I speculated with my wife how they were cooked so probably not fair to write except whatever the process on this day it was awfully opposite of right. The meats-the ribs taste were not there as in no seasoning and no smoke but moist and drop off the bone...like huh right! I pictured the video of a guy taking a pinch of seasoning then flinging it over the entire slab like ola. The beef brisket was not even a pinch ola ahead of the ribs. My wife goes something like the brisket may have been next to smoke but not in it. That was a pretty good one coming from her. I still had to hear the various excuse she offered up out of love. Hey! we had short notice, say a friend recommended... I was soooo angry and embarrassed that I ordered ribs from another rib spot. Yes! it was like that on this day. This restaurant is very close to one of my job locations, so I have been eager to try it. The smoked meat is excellent. I had the brisket and found it to be tender and flavorful. It was complimented by sweet barbeque sauce and a delicious side of macaroni and cheese. I am glad I went to an early lunch because the restaurant filled up pretty quickly during lunch. The facility was spacious and unpretentious for the quality of food they are dishing out. I will definitely be back. It was that good. read more

I'm happy to report that the Smokehouse and bar are under one roof; you can just walk in, order your barbecue and grab a seat in the bar! The barbecue is legit! Sampled a quarter pound of each: tri tip sirloin, smoked turkey and pulled pork. All of the meats were great! The sirloin had a nice nice bark and smoke ring; a little dry because it's sirloin, but very flavorful. The turkey was mostly dark meat, but very moist and tender; delicious! The pulled pork was mildly smokey, and damn near perfect. I also like how they don't slather any of the meats in sauce; they leave that up to you. The sides were OK. The Mac n cheese was very good, but low marks on the fries and onion petals, both of which were frozen... That's OK for the onion petals, but why put so much effort in on the meats, but not hand cut and fry a potato? The two sauces provided were one sweet and one hot, plus there are bottles to get more on your own. I honestly couldn't tell one from the other, but both were good. The BBQ Platter is more than enough food for two. It's priced well and is a good value to get to try a little of bit of everything. The service at the BBQ window, our food runner and server were all VERY friendly. I've never been here before, but the service alone was worth it. A lot of places make it feel like they're doing you a favor by letting you eat there, but I really felt welcomed here by everyone! We hung out in the bar, ate our barbecue and had a few beers in a nice neighborhood bar setting. Nice night out and very enjoyable food! read more

Located behind the Victory Inn sits the Victory Smokehouse. It's a shipping container gone BBQ shack, decorated with mounted animal heads because what else screams "We want all the smoked meats?" I DO! Located on a big chalkboard is the menu which features meats, sides, and two signature sandwiches. Happy Hour is from 2 - 4 pm..usually the 2 meat combo for $10. If you chose to eat there, you can take it inside to the Victory Inn. If you order a side, you're given a poker chip to hand to the nice lady behind the counter when you first walk inside. You can sit outside, but there's only one picnic table and it's getting colder...besides, there are adult beverages inside...MMM Beer. Let me suggest The Boar sandwich - Brisket, Pulled Pork AND Pork Belly. A trifecta of meats all hot and ready and waiting to get sauced. Did I mention the sauce? I like both the sweet and signature. I like to combine my sauces...no regrets. The other sandwich, The Dirty D is Brisket and Pulled Pork. Still a solid choice. My go to side is the Mac and Cheese...but the slaw is pretty good also. Overall, great place for BBQ. Don't let the Friday - Sunday only hours discourage you. I usually head there on Friday during lunch hour. It can get busy but they move pretty quickly. Ok so I must say the Burnt Ends are yummy. My husband had the pulled pork he really liked it . The spicy bbq sauce was great for both dishes. Our granddaughter got just a simple Mac n Cheese...she loves her mac n cheese!!! Love the fact you order in back at a smokehouse shipping container and take your food up to the front building which is a bar. I decided to give this place another try now that the Inn and the Smokehouse have combined under one roof. It's about time. I tried the baby back ribs, brisket and coleslaw. The brisket was much better then before...tender and flavorful. The ribs were good too. The meat had a good flavor and fell off the bone. I wish more of the fat would have rendered off the ribs though. The coleslaw was good but perhaps had too much mayonnaise. You have two choices for sauce: spicy or sweet. I picked spicy and didn't have enough for my meal. Instead of having sauce bottles at the table, they ration it off in capped plastic cups. Arrived with such high expectations...too high obviously, because the fall from a greater height hurts that much more... Arrived for a light lunch to share with my wife. While she grabbed a table on the patio, I ordered lunch at the food window. I waited... and waited... and waited while 3 people chatted together in the back not quite ignoring me, but I had the impression they were playing mental rock-paper-scissors and the loser would have to help me. I finally start my order for the Friday fish taco special and clam chowder. In the middle of my ordering, the cashier walks away to talk to a server bringing up rolled-up silverware before returning to see if what kind of fries did I want. Anything else? Yes, an extra plate and extra spoon and silverware because I'm sharing...no extra plate. No extra silverware, got the spoon as I was self serving my soup to my table. The soup was tasty. But pastey thick and over salted. The fish tacos were a mess, literally and physically. We could only eat half a taco each. The taco were almost as "pastey" as the soup (not a texture you expect from a taco). It will be a long time before we return. read more

Stopped here for take out because I had their pork belly and burnt ends when they were just starting out over 6 years ago. They were excellent at the time. Today i bought 1/2 lb of each. Had a week's worth of classes at the Arsenal, and Victory was on my to-do list. So I made it there two times. Conveniently located with lots of parking. As others have mentioned, Victory's operations are a little disjointed. My first visit, we ate inside. The counter that you order the food only takes cash, charge cards are handled by the waitress and the bar. The hamburger was very average, the two of us who ordered them both said that it reminded us of Army mess hall burgers that have been stuck inside a warming pan for a long time. Burger, chips, and pickle was about $5. The smokehouse only sells the barbeque meats. They take charge cards & cash, but if you want any sides, you have to order them inside. Got some St. Louis ribs and burnt ends. Knew I wouldn't eat it until later for dinner, but I had to try some ribs and ends while they were hot. They were meaty, tasty, and pretty reasonable. It isn't my all-time favorite Michigan barbeque, but reasonable, convenient, and another Yelp Cashback business. A half rack was $12, and 1/4 lb of burnt ends were $5. The Smokehouse is only open Friday - Monday. Someplace to repeat when I'm in the area and recommend! read more

I must've passed this place a hundred times driving up and down Mound, I'm a bit saddened by this because this is, without a doubt, some of the best BBQ in the metro Detroit area. I've tried just about every BBQ place in Metro Detroit with the exception of Bad Brads, and this place, especially the burnt ends, has all the BBQ places beat. I've never eaten inside, so I cant say too much about service or atmosphere what have you, but the food here is just so good. The first time we came here we tried the sampler platter, pulled pork, burnt ends, brisket, and sirloin. All of it was succulent, juicy, smoky bbq that just falls apart in your mouth. I could go on and on about the burnt ends from this place. In fact, after the first time we went here I came back and just got a pound of only burnt ends the second time! We got some sides as well, mac n cheese, fries, and coleslaw. The mac and cheese was very typical. Baked with a ton of cheese but nothing totally outstanding. Fries were very generic as well, just seemed to come out of a frozen bag. Coleslaw was actually homemade, so it was pretty good. The only thing I can knock about this place is the sauce is just okay, there's two kinds sweet and spicy and both of them have a very similar flavor profile, but that's okay because you won't even want to dip your bbq in sauce because the meat has enough flavor as it is. read more

The food is absolutely DISGUSTING! HOw can you over cook PORK? It's the most 'forgiving meat' there is! Service was a joke, had to wait over 20 minutes for a server to take our drink order. Checked out this spot after Great Lakes Con, saw on TV and thought it would be Awesome. Sad to say it was average at best overall, there was four of us and we all agreed that the burnt ends were good, everything else we tried was dry and we actually had meat left in the tray and nobody wanted to take it home. We also had 1/2 rack of ribs, jalapeño cheddar sausage (wife was really disappointed on this) and brisket. Set-up was kind of cool with it being in old shipping containers behind the bar, I thought it was best use of a one I have seen (military will get it). Down side was you have to take food to go or take to bar in front of barbecue. Staff was friendly enough, prices were not terrible, just expected more taste. read more

In town on business and check several sites that recommended Victory as great food. Sorry to say it was anything but good. I ordered 1/2lb brisket and 1/4lb of "pork belly" for $27.00. I requested the fat cap and not the flat so I would be the fattier cuts. The meat I got was from the flat and was so dry I couldn't eat more than 2 pieces. I could hardly get my plastic fork to go into the meat. The pork belly was nothing more than thick sliced bacon cooked to a rubbery consistency smothered in a sugary sauce. Seems like a nice neighborhood place to grab a beer and enjoy some friendly company but the food leaves much to be desired. read more

I live 2 miles from heee & always pass by, but never stopped. I finally decided to give it a try last night... nope, never again. The meat was wet, not moist.... WET. Like it has just been sitting in a steamer for hours. Not even very flavorful, overall disappointing for sure. We ordered 1lb brisket, 1/2lb turkey, 1/2lb hungarian sausage. Our order got lost so our wait was a bit longer than expected. Had the brisket and it was very dry, jalepano cheddar sausage was flavorless but the pulled pork was great. Chris is a true pitmaster. He's actually a magician, what he does with barbecue is magical. This is hands-down the best barbecue in the state of Michigan. I highly recommend it, it's very clear he loves what he does. The brisket is so moist and so flavorful it requires no sauce. However, the sauces are both excellent as well. Passed by this place for years and years and thought it was just a bar with bar food. See that they renovated last year and finally decided to try it. I ordered the club panini that has "roast turkey" and hame, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes. At first glance the turkey is not actual turkey it is just cheap lunch meat turkey as well as cheap ham and bacon.coming from a place that calls themselves bbq, this is shocking. The bread was toasted but barely leaving it chewy with no crunch. The lunch meat in the middle was cold and cheese barely melted. The fries that they call "crispy" fries were anything but crispy. If you want to eat at a bar with low quality bar food, I guess this place would suit you. I will never, and I mean this with most sincerity, ever go here again. #Trash read more

I found victory smoke house on Yelp and figured I would give it a try. My fiancé and I absolutely love a good BBQ- which is sometimes hard to find in Michigan. The minute you pull into the parking lot you get hit with the smell of some good BBQ. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, spicy sausage, St. Louis style ribs, burnt ends, Mac and cheese and the baked beans. (We pretty much wanted to try everything!) And we are so glad we did!!! Blew into the Victory Inn today for lunch after a business meeting and was psyched to find that their Smokehouse was open for business...on a Monday. Usually, the Smokehouse is only open on certain days of the week and I didn't think Monday was one of them. All 5 of us opted to walk on the wild side and try the "House" for a little authentic Michigander Bar B Q cooked in the back of the parking lot. Three of us opted for the Turkey sandwich while the remaining two grabbed the Pulled Pork sandtown covered with the Smokehouse's Sweet (rather than Spicy) sauce. We also "bought in" at the Bar B Q counter and got real poker chips to trade in for some coleslaw and mac'n cheese at the window inside. Both the Turkey and the Pulled Pork plates drew rave reviews from our table as did the Mac' cheese and slaw as we washed it all down with Diet Cokes. The only downside of our lunch at the Victory is their quirkiness of having to place orders at three different places inside and outside this dive bar. Our waitress, as friendly and as helpful as she was, would only take drink orders. The Bar B Q had to be ordered outside at the truck. The slaw and mac'n cheese came from the walk-up window inside the bar. Whew...Glad I had my Fitbit on today... Got nearly a thousand steps in before taking my first bite of my succulent Turkey sandwich. The people are also really nice we were a bit confused because the smokehouse is seperate from the bar. Directions: Go around back to the smokehouse and get your delicious meat choice there you will also pay for the sides that you will pick up in the bar, where you will also be served your drinks. The service is good, the food was great and the atmosphere was nice. My only issues was the mac and cheese was Nothing to write home about but my Brisket was so darn good i barely paid attention to it anyway. It was also super reasonably priced. I tried to call and order in their phone rang and then hung up at 5:30 PM on Sunday. I was passing by so I decided to order in person. It was completely dark . Perhaps they are another victim of Covid. Not so much the virus is the inconsistent application of "public health" policies that has hit the hospitality industry so hard. This is a hidden gem with a very warm home style feeling. The food is simply heavenly!!! But don't forget the people! In my opinion they are what makes this place special! Everyone had great smiles and a very good sense of humor! I especially like the way they they have included the kitchen staff as they allow you to go to the kitchen window to order your food.
