I'm a super fan of small business owners. In particular, I love supporting minority-owned businesses. Being in business for self is tough. This carryout restaurant is Black-owned. I had been yearning for rib tips and found this local spot here on Yelp that I hadn't visited. The small seating area in the lobby was decent. There was no menu posted but small flyers were available. The man at the counter was a sweetie, he was pleasant and accommodating. I ordered a rib tip dinner, with meat, macaroni and cheese, and turnip greens. I also ordered cake, that I didn't receive. Not sure if I paid for it or not, because I didn't look at the prices. Anyway, onto my carryout meal... The tips were very flavorful, I really enjoyed the sauce, and I'm not really a BBQ sauce girl. I usually like grilled meat plain. The tips were unusually sized, therefore some were cooked right while others were crisply overdone or unedibly chewy. The macaroni was good, although I didn't receive any of the top cheesy layer. The turnip greens didn't taste like turnips and were also chewy. I'd definitely recommend others trying them. They were very professional and the food had good flavor. While there, there was a steady flow of customers. If I go again, I will check to make sure my cake is in the bag; and try some of the things I overheard that were popular with customers. I would have preferred to just share this with the owner but, she never responded to my DM. I thought about it and said " why wouldn't you share with the people spending the money?" sooo here goes I have been looking for a good Detroit BBQ place and this place seemed promising. First of all, the staff was polite and friendly. My wait was not long and generally speaking, everyone seemed really pleasant that worked there. I SOOOO wanted this to be great because the food LOOKED good and honestly, with some tweaking could be but, at a point, I think that you have to just accept that perhaps what you want as a customer is just not what they serve. Here is a list and review of every item I tried * Ribs- I got a half slab of ribs with the sauce on the side and honestly, they were delicious. The meat is smoked, it seems vs cooked over charcoal and the meat was tender and the sauce was actually good as well. It was my first time so I requested the sauce on the side but had the sauce been on my ribs, I would have been happy with it. More than likely, going forward, I will just order meat and have my own sides prepared at home * Greens- I don't know WHO these people are that want sweet greens but whoever you are, this is your place! The greens LOOKED SO GOOD but were so sweet, I couldn't eat them. * Baked Beans- I don't prefer the ground beef in my beans so if you like that style, these were actually decent. Again, personal preference. * Macaroni and Cheese- it's a no, for me. I don't actually expect homemade where somebody made a roux like I do and select premium cheddar, gouda etc. but if you are used to a really good mac and expect it to taste at least as good as lets say Floods, you won't be liking it. * Dirty Rice- now THIS was by FAR what I most wanted to try with the exception of the ribs and I am so disappointed. They make dirty rice and instead of ground beef, they use beef short rib... the flavor profile was outstanding and the beef was tender but OMG, it was sooooooooooooooooooooooo salty, I could NOT finish it. If they corrected the salt; and maybe it was just an off day but if they corrected that, I would order double this because it would have been delicious. The dirty rice was unbelievably salty and if I had that, I would have had to go to Beaumont. The owner, she's there and she seems so sweet. I think that's why I would have preferred to give a more discreet review but, she never responded to me. My review is by no means scathing but I wanted to be honest because, ribs and 4 sides is NOT cheap so I would be careful before you order. read more

I went to the Ribs N Soul Fest and was here to enjoy some music and ribs of course. I walked around for a while and they had a good presentation. They had rib tips, greens, yams, beans and babybacks laid right out for everyone to see, I ordered the rib tips first but decided on the Babyback ribs. The place is called Babyback so I decided to actually try them. The staff was really nice and helpful. I appreciated the assistance that was offered to correct my order. The ribs were good and I also ordered the Mac and cheese plus the greens. The ribs were tender and had a good sauce to boot. The Mac N cheese was ok but I have had better, however, it is not fair to compare them to my sisters. The greens were also good but a little more seasoning would have worked. Delicious!!!! OMG my ribs were so good and u can taste they were from the grill. Greens tasted like I made them seasoned to the T. Yams were excellent Mac and cheese good (I had better but nice a fresh made). My daughter had the oxtails which we both agree needed more seasoning. I live 30 minutes away but would definitely drive back soon. The customer service alone is enough to return, very friendly and accommodating employees. Please don't change and keep up the good work and high standards. Four stars instead of 5 because the oxtails needed more seasoning but cooked well. read more

small neighborhood takeaway restaurant with a nice Smoky flavor and friendly service. call ahead if you really want to get your food in a hurry otherwise you'll be sitting in the lobby for upwards of 20 to 30 minutes waiting with the throngs of admirers who pack this place everyday. I will say that I enjoyed the chicken immensely and the sauce was just right not too hot not too sweet not too spicy just right. My wife went there today and got the Beef Short Ribs with Macaroni and cheese and Greens. She asked for gravy on the Short ribs and the put turkey gravy on it. Normally they put beef gravy on the short ribs but not this time. The last time we ordered the same thing, they gave us no gravy at all. Lately, the beef short ribs have been tough wheee in the past they were fork tender. This time the macaroni and cheese tasted like it had been left out to spoil. Best ribs I and my buddy have ever had at a restaurant (possibly ever). I'm disappointed in the fact that the side order choices are not consistent in taste nor preparation.Therefore, I started only ordering meat. Since they moved from Livernois to 7 mile, the food is not as good. The baby-backs didn't have that open-pit/out door flavor. I been around for a long time and I know the flavor when ribs are cooked outside on the grill. The tasted like they were cooked in the oven and they were too mushy (like that had been frozen).
