    Aircraft carriers

What a great way to get up close to the Navy's ships and learn about them as well as about commercial cargo ships and the area in the Norfolk harbor! We saw three aircraft carriers, a destroyer, supply ships, the hospital ship Comfort, amphibious assault ships, a submarine, and Ticonderoga cruisers. Plus several cargo ships. The captain narrated our tour, and he was excellent! I read a previous comment about nonstop talking. Not this captain. He was thorough and informative without being overly chatty. The boat ride was smooth. I often get seasick, but not on this boat. There are two seating areas: Top deck outside, but with a shade covering half the area, and the lower deck, which is enclosed with air conditioning and large windows. Even on a 90-degree day, we were comfortable up top under the shade with the breeze from sailing. The ship also at least one bathroom (very clean) and a snack bar, though you may bring on your own snacks too. We highly recommend this 2-hour tour. At $29, it's not inexpensive, but we found it more than worth the price--especially if you have an interest in the Navy and shipping.

2 hour long cruise on the water to the naval base. Super informational about everything in the water and the different ships. They have a bathroom and a little shop with some drinks and snacks they have an upstairs part and downstairs is inside. Service was great and everyone on board was super nice and had all the info. I would recommend if you are Norfolk!

Great way to know about our waterways, ships, buildings (Norfolk), bridges, history, where our taxpayers money goes to for defending our freedom - love the very informative cruise. For those who don't know there's so much happening in Hampton Roads area - ship building, Norfolk piers where ships are repaired, reconditioned, etc. The cruise guide was extremely knowledgeable of all the types of ships, statistics of ship names , use, type, etc. It was worth the tour. There are two decks where you can get excellent view. The upper reckons uncovered where you can enjoy the wind in your hair. The lower deck houses the snack bar, which includes alcoholic drinks.restrooms are also available, so convenient for the 2 hour cruise. Reservation of booking is even easy. You can get e-tickets in minutes. I highly recommend taking the cruise on a beautiful day. Great opportunity to keep your out of town guests enthused about Norfolk and the Hampton Roads area.

Really enjoyed the boat tour. Snacks and bathrooms made it 10x better. Recommend packing warm layers because the wind on the water is cold

This was one of the best tours (2 hours) I have ever been on. Norfolk Airforce base is the largest in the world, and we just glided along the water with one of the most knowledgeable narrators that went on nonstop without barely a breath in between for a solid hour. The boat was comfortable, and offered snacks, beverages, and food for sale. There is also seating on the upper deck, but rather cold on the day we went. We saw plenty of battleships, destroyers, aircraft carriers, hospital ship, container ships, barges, coal ships, tug boats, as well as local attractions on the water. The Victory Rover was part of a 3 combo ticket that also included the Nauticus Museum and a self guided tour of the battleship USS Wisconsin right next to it, for $35, and we were entertained the entire day. I highly recommend.

Twenty dollars for two hours with a really informative tour. Even if you're from Norfolk/Portsmouth area you'll probably learn a few things you never knew. Service: Very polite, professional and helpful. While on the cruise one of the crew members saw we had some trash from our snacks and came by to dispose of it for us rather than our holding onto it or getting up ourselves. Snack Bar: Good choice of drinks (soda's and such), beer and wine for a quick bay tour. The Pretzel was good as was the choice of candy bars and other snacks. We didn't have the Nathan hotdogs but they looked good too. Comfort: This is a clean craft through and through with a comfortable bathroom (aka head for you seafarers) not some tiny tight space like you'd find in an aircraft. The upper deck is open and lower deck closed and air conditioned but either deck is comfortable. Overall: A great way to take visitors to the naval base and understand how much of an impact Hampton Roads has on the shipping industry. Well worth the money for a relaxing informative tour.

Boring. Too long. Seeing ships from a distance is not very impressive. Would recommend instead an actual on board tour of naval ships

We also wanted formal training and certifications and we found this place online. We also thought seeing Virginia and the east coast a bit would have been a great time for my wife Brittany's birthday. So we flew to Virginia's SailTime courses instead of one of the the ones in our own state. We flew from California and I spoke with Connie and she was kind enough to let us stay on a 41 ft yacht (Adiona, a 41 ft Jenneua) for our stay in Virginia which saved us about half a grand on hotels. When we landed a lady named Brooke made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. When we got on board to unpack there was even a note waiting for us that said happy birthday. Brooke was a sweetheart for sure and we felt like family by the time we had set our bags down. She made sure of it. We met our captain the next morning. A man named Jim Lant who took us through our 101, 103 and 104 courses over the next 6 days. We had a GREAT time and I honestly didn't want to leave when we finished up our last tests. Those six days we sailed every day and every place we sailed too seemed to have friendly people there who all knew each other and our captain Jim. The first ocean sail my wife and I ever did together was from Norfolk to cape Charles and that's pretty cool. Well miss the people and sailing for sure! Everyone who loves sailing should come here and meet Connie, Jim and Brooke. You won't regret it and we won't ever forget it. Jim is the BEST captain.

Captain Jim was absolutely amazing. He was so patient and did such a fantastic job of teaching us about sailing and he allowed all of us to take part in one way or another. He was so good at including everyone and making sure each person received direct guidance from him. It's generally really hard to find activities that all 6 of us enjoy due to the age range but this turned out to be an absolutely perfect day. I would highly recommend Sailtime if you are thinking of trying this adventure! Working with them on scheduling was so easy and smooth as well. Be warned, you will want a sail boat afterward.....

The crew were very friendly. Especially Connor and Lauren, the bartender. There was a bar with snack concessions for purchase. The cruise began at 7.30 out into the harbor with narration by the captain of the history of the harbor, the various ships docked in the harbor and the many shipyards. We saw dolphins playing in the water and were able to see the festival attendees, vendors and hear the music from the shore. There was a musician on board who walked around playing guitar and singing after the narration. We would have preferred more history to the music but he was entertaining. They raised the sails once we got off the shore and that was cool. We were able to stay on the ship after docking to enjoy the drone show that was part of the Harborfest activities, which was impressive but also disappointing in that it only lasted a few minutes, maybe 5 at tops. But overall it was a great cruise, nice ship that was clean and well ran. The deck underneath was also very nice with cool furnishings and is where the bar and bathrooms were located.

We read the reviews and assumed since they were all so good and their website looked good they were a legit company. We called and talked to a nice lady on the phone a week prior to us coming to visit for a week long vacation with 6 of our grandkids. Let her know we had a pontoon and would like to rent a nice boat to spend 2-3 days on the lake tubing, skiing, and riding around while we were here. I asked about the two nicer boats on the website and she said they had some really clean boats and she could get us 8 in one no problem. So reserved the premium one over the phone. When we arrived the next week they called the day before and requested to be paid the of the amount in cash. I thought this was strange for a company, but agreed and went to back to get cash for the next morning. (First red flag) When they arrived with the boat it was a 22 year old tri-toon, very weathered, and let's just say, well used. (Second red flag) Seats ripped, awning held together with bungee cords and straps, rear ladder was bungee strapped up, horn was broken, so we have a whistle, interior lights broken lenses, radio didn't work, the anchor was an 8 pound mushroom anchor you would use for a johnboat, would certainly not hold a 24' pontoon. The life vest they provided were just as old as the boat. We only had 4 we could use old of the 10 they sent. There's no tow bar to pull from, so the drivers says yeah you will have to tie onto one of the toons, really??? I expressed my frustration with the delivery driver, which went no where, I called the office and talked to a lady who said she had only been answering phones for a few months and had never actually seen the boats. (Third red flag). I asked at this point was this a company or was this just individuals renting out their boats and cabins? She answered just individuals, they don't have an actual office. She advised she would get with the owner of the boat to see if they can do anything but they didn't have any other boats available. By now I'm frustrated but I have 6 grandkids ages 13-8 looking at me excited to go boating and waiting to get on the boat. They could care less what it looks like or if it's going to leave us stranded, they just want to go. lol I go ahead and take the boat and make the best of what we have throughout the day. When they pick up the boat I was expecting a little humility and at least an half ass excuse, but all I get was "sorry this wasn't what you expected, thank for re ring with us though". We check on other rentals in the area the next morning and found that they actually have newer boats and are quite a bit less expensive. I also went back and reviewed their website to see if I missed anything and over reacted. What I found was a couple of the reviews were from the delivery guys family, the delivery driver is actually in the pictures. So I wonder if the 23 reviews are actually real at this point. Moral of the story, don't stop doing research when you find a good website or good reviews. Keep checking around, we paid 730 dollars for a 22 year old worn out boat and motor for 8 hours and could have gotten a 2 year old boat with a bigger motor, for 520 dollars at 2 other rental places right down the road. If you're renting your own equipment that's great, just be upfront about it !

These are top 5 reasons why I love coming here: 1. Parking It only costs $3 for the whole day (until midnight, I believe). No need to keep plugging the meter. There's a parking machine located right by the entrance of the walkway to the beach. Can't remember if you need to place it on the dash, but why not? Just in case... 2. Public washrooms and showers There are washrooms with changing rooms, showers underneath the roof (on the other side of the washrooms) outside, equipped with the short shower heads to rinse your feet. ESSENTIAL with young kids. 3. Public beach access with tide pool The beach is the end of Chick's beach, right under Lesner Bridge. The bridge itself provides great shade on a portion of the beach, although a lot of people like to fish there too, so we usually end up moving a little further down. Also, depending on the time of day you go, there is a tidepool and the water is not as rough so it's relatively safe for the kiddos. Of course, still watch your kids. 4. Traffic Meaning, it's not crowded there at all! Only a handful of people the last couple of times we've been there. 5. American Brew The best part is coffee and bites is right next door! It's a short walk from the parking lot, but if you forget to pack a lunch, American Brew is located right at the corner of the street (you'll most likely see it before you turn in to the parking lot). They have great coffees, bowls and other bites. Summer is here so enjoy the sunshine and soak up every bit of that Vitamin Sea! Stay safe, Friends!
