And of course there were the Navy helicopters and jets periodically passing overhead and seagulls running up and down the beach. One particularly grumpy seagull must've believed that the portion of the beach in front of us was his and his alone as he kept running around chasing all the other gulls away from "his" part of the beach. All in all a very entertaining and relaxing visit at the OV beach.

That is rare on a holiday like this! With 2 cars two quick parking spots is hard to come by. We were grateful!! As we entered the park we saw other families grilling so apparently grilling is permitted. Volleyball nets were pitched up and hammocks tied to trees. Kind of reminded me of the state parks in NYC and NJ. My family and I quickly found a nice spot and we set up camp to play charades and wait for the light show to begin. There was no life gaurd this late at night. Dogs were permitted after 6 pm Fire works were permitted on the beach as well I didn't see any public bathrooms near and there was hardly any lighting in the park once it got dark which made us all scramble with flashlights as we packed up. Plenty of lighting in the parking lot which was nice! I approve this park for some local, free family fun

Although the size of this beach is much smaller compared to other beaches in the area, there are…read moresome things I really appreciated about this particular spot. Accessibility issues often precludes those with mobility differences and I really appreciated how salient ADA was put into action-- not merely an empty gesture with bare minimum efforts, if that. (i.e., steep wheelchair ramp) Parking here is very easy and the picnic tables makes it perfect to eat al fresco. It gives you a nice view of the ocean without having to step onto the sand. In other words, there aren't sand dunes to scale up and down, or wooden staircases to go up and down. This makes it ideal to drop by even if you have mobility differences (e.g., wheelchair bound, unsteady gait from Parkinson's, stroke survivor, on oxygen, just had surgery) or just wanted to see the sea even with work clothes on. Due to the proximity of the parking lot and the oceanfront, it's also possible to just stay in the car and enjoy the view line watch the sunset. Not all disabilities are visible and I am thinking of everyone who needs safe space and means to leave quickly should such a moment strikes. Although it wasn't photographed, the area has bathrooms. The right side of the beach facing the ocean is inaccessible for all when the red flag is erected for live fire training. One star taken off for counting more than 15 separate pieces of trash in various sizes, big broken glass shards, and dog droppings. I get it that there's picnic tables and wind can blow things away but sh1t! If you have hound dogs like me, you may want to think twice about visiting. It's going to be a giant buffet for them. I hope nobody there that day heard me and my husband spending a lot of time hollering "LEAVE IT! LEAVE IT! OMG WHATS IN YOUR MOUTH?!?! LEAVE THAT ALONE! LEAVE THAT ALONE TOO!!! THIS WAY DOG. NO YOU CANT EAT THEM! NO NOT THAT EITHER!!! LEAVE. THAT. ALONE." In sum, I know this beach isn't for everyone and I know there are bigger and better. But I still appreciated the area and wouldn't mind returning to dine al fresco from dozens of other good places to eat -- the Bagel Baker, Bobo's, etc.

Covered picnic tables throughout the park. a few fitness stations on the 1 1/2 mile hike. VERY easy loop hike. Starts out with a cement trail and turns into fine gravel trail around the lake. Lots of people running, kids playing and dogs walking. My favorite thing I found a bench dedicated to their sweet dog Savanna. And they offer doggy poop bags. Encouraging a nice clean park. Nice easy walk and if you time it right there are a lot of great places in that area to eat and a nice shopping area

Only portapotty available for bathroom facilities which I guess is normal for the smaller parks in the area. The path is clean and nice but there are bicycles and other wheeled vehicles sharing the walking path. There were birds using the lake but I didn't see any sign of any fish or life in the lake so I am not sure if there are fish or anything else in the lake. I went to the right to start my walk and I am not sure if that was the wrong way but it seemed everyone was going the other way or it was just that I didn't catch up to anyone ahead of me so it looked like I was the only one walking my way. I took my walk on a supposed warm day but the weather changed and it was a little cold so I had to walk a little quicker than expected. There were people jogging the path, walking their dogs, and just sitting by the lake. There are lots of wooden pierlike structures that get you close to the water but like I said before, no signs of fish as far as I could see.

There were vendors for food (the lines were not terrible while I was in line), but bringing food and coolers of your own were also allowed. The music, firworks, and energy of the crowd made for a good experience . If ever attending, please expect departure to be ridiculous. The parking deck was nearly at capacity when we arrived so we had to park at the very top, the elevator lines were long (we had a stroller) and the elevators were slow due to so many people using them. Despite this everyone was cooperative and rudeness did not exist that night ( thank God). Definitely don't mind going again.

We searched online for a boat rental company for the Hot Springs Area and Great White Rentals was…read morethe first site to come up. We read the reviews and assumed since they were all so good and their website looked good they were a legit company. We called and talked to a nice lady on the phone a week prior to us coming to visit for a week long vacation with 6 of our grandkids. Let her know we had a pontoon and would like to rent a nice boat to spend 2-3 days on the lake tubing, skiing, and riding around while we were here. I asked about the two nicer boats on the website and she said they had some really clean boats and she could get us 8 in one no problem. So reserved the premium one over the phone. When we arrived the next week they called the day before and requested to be paid the of the amount in cash. I thought this was strange for a company, but agreed and went to back to get cash for the next morning. (First red flag) When they arrived with the boat it was a 22 year old tri-toon, very weathered, and let's just say, well used. (Second red flag) Seats ripped, awning held together with bungee cords and straps, rear ladder was bungee strapped up, horn was broken, so we have a whistle, interior lights broken lenses, radio didn't work, the anchor was an 8 pound mushroom anchor you would use for a johnboat, would certainly not hold a 24' pontoon. The life vest they provided were just as old as the boat. We only had 4 we could use old of the 10 they sent. There's no tow bar to pull from, so the drivers says yeah you will have to tie onto one of the toons, really??? I expressed my frustration with the delivery driver, which went no where, I called the office and talked to a lady who said she had only been answering phones for a few months and had never actually seen the boats. (Third red flag). I asked at this point was this a company or was this just individuals renting out their boats and cabins? She answered just individuals, they don't have an actual office. She advised she would get with the owner of the boat to see if they can do anything but they didn't have any other boats available. By now I'm frustrated but I have 6 grandkids ages 13-8 looking at me excited to go boating and waiting to get on the boat. They could care less what it looks like or if it's going to leave us stranded, they just want to go. lol I go ahead and take the boat and make the best of what we have throughout the day. When they pick up the boat I was expecting a little humility and at least an half ass excuse, but all I get was "sorry this wasn't what you expected, thank for re ring with us though". We check on other rentals in the area the next morning and found that they actually have newer boats and are quite a bit less expensive. I also went back and reviewed their website to see if I missed anything and over reacted. What I found was a couple of the reviews were from the delivery guys family, the delivery driver is actually in the pictures. So I wonder if the 23 reviews are actually real at this point. Moral of the story, don't stop doing research when you find a good website or good reviews. Keep checking around, we paid 730 dollars for a 22 year old worn out boat and motor for 8 hours and could have gotten a 2 year old boat with a bigger motor, for 520 dollars at 2 other rental places right down the road. If you're renting your own equipment that's great, just be upfront about it !

I found Elizabeth River Park during my run today. I was quite excited to find a nice little refuge…read morein a quiet neighborhood in the Virginia Beach area. Parts of the trails are paved, but the real gems are the dirt areas where it's quiet and peaceful. I saw quite a bit of wildlife during my brief run through some of the trails. There are numbered sign posts throughout the trails that explain what you are seeing. I didn't stop to look at them as I was more focused on my run. There are a few lakes on the side of the river which are beautiful. You can access the river with your boat if you'd like. I didn't get to explore the whole park but I'd like to next time I'm nearby.
