I cannot say enough wonderful things about this horseback riding school. My grandson is autistic…read moreand intellectually disabled, and he does not learn quickly. From the very beginning, the owners Ellen and the instructors Bri, Lorraine, and Charlotte have shown incredible patience, kindness, and understanding. They truly take the time to work with him at his own pace, never rushing him and always encouraging him. Because of their dedication, he has gained confidence, skills, and joy through horseback riding that we never thought possible. It is rare to find people who are not only skilled instructors but also genuinely caring and compassionate. We are beyond grateful for everything they have done for my grandson. I highly recommend this school to any family, especially those with children who need extra patience and support.

We did not have a good experience here. we selected them from the vendor list at my daughters home…read moreschool. At almost $100 a lesson it's quite expensive but since the school covers it we wanted to let my daughter try it. it took a few days and a few phone calls to get someone to call us back. Once we spoke with the owner the rest went smooth until starting. On our first and second lesson the instructor was rude and harsh to my daughter. She basically called her stupid and had little patience. We missed her next 2 lessons because my daughter refused to go with out me there to say something if the instructor was rude to her again. This week we messaged the instructor that we would be there and we had been taken off the schedule with error communication. We will not be going back to this facility.

I've enjoyed my time at this facility. My mare is very happy, I enjoy the community, and I…read moreespecially appreciate the flexibility this barn has to offer. I am allowed to bring in and store my own food (orchard grass from Higby's) with the standard stall rate and have arranged for fan service for a fee (Matt graciously installed the fan in my mare's stall) so my mare gets TLC when it is hot. The stalls (x-small wood chips covered + matted paddock) are kept very clean, with someone coming to remove manure at least twice a day. It is a busy barn with some boarded horses and a many lesson horses, so it is easy to arrange for someone to help blanket and provide grain to my mare, daily. The owners live at the barn so there is someone keeping an eye on horses 24/7. I have learned so much from my trainer CeCe who has a background in eventing. I feel safe during our sessions, and she takes the fitness level and soundness of my horse into consideration. Pine Trails offers large number of lessons weekdays after school and weekend mornings, so it can become a very busy during these times, but my mare enjoys the higher level of activity at this barn and would be bored otherwise! I generally ride during the late evenings and there are usually at least one or two people out and about for company. During the hot days of summer, there is the option of riding your own horse at the coolest hours of the day. As mentioned before I truly appreciate the flexibility Michelle, the owner, offers. Arena lights are on until 10PM. The footing in the four arenas is sand, crushed walnut shells, or a combination of both, watered once a day and dragged a few times a week. Ivan, a local farrier, is wonderful and comes to the barn every week, so arranging appointments is easy. The barn-cats, dog, geese, ducks, and many other animals are a fun bonus to the experience.

She showed her everything from the beginning like brushing, feeding and treating a horse before the actual riding. She honestly exceeded our expectations. Each…read moresession the rider is essentially learning to ride and control the pony with help from the instructor so that they can eventually ride it by themselves. It's $30 a session with a veteran discount and I think $35 for full price, at least that's what we paid during the pandemic. Speaking of the pandemic, this is a pretty safe activity if you're worried about Covid since the pony riding is usually just your child and the instructor, so there is limited contact with other people. Of course it takes place outside too and supposedly that's a safer type of activity to prevent the spread of Covid. The instructor has a lot of experience working with kids and she was able to handle my son pretty well, which is no easy feat since he is an absolute monster! Overall my son has really enjoyed going to these lessons and after about two months he was leading the pony by himself!

Danielle is amazing to work with, very responsive, and a genuine kind person. I'd recommend her and Daisy for anyone interested in a pony party! As a neophyte to everything equestrian, I began the lesson with the simple goal of surviving what I assumed would be an hour of fear and embarrassment followed by an afterglow of melancholic guilt. Once the lesson began, however, I experienced several important revelations: 1. I'm a self-absorbed neurotic who overthinks everything. 2. Learning to ride is thrilling but not once did I experience fear. 3. Horses are incredibly affectionate and intuitive creatures. Interacting with them had a remarkably calming effect on my over-stimulated amygdala. 4. Natalie is an amazing teacher, with a pedigree of competitive accomplishments that were mostly lost on me. It felt akin to taking a drivers-ed class from Danica Patrick. It didn't hurt that the setting is beautiful and idyllic. The facility (Valley Dressage and Sport Horse Center) feels professional and well run but with a comfortable, informal atmosphere that I appreciate. Admittedly, I have nothing to compare my experience against, but my sense is that I was quite lucky to have taken my first ridding lesson with Four Star Farm.

I recently found out about this place from a friend's Instagram story when they went. So I made…read moresure to plan a hike here for when I had time. I was able to come here in the middle of the week around noon. The GPS made this place easy to find. There is plenty of parking here at pena adobe park and lagoon valley park. The hike is located at lagoon valley park, so don't mix those up. You do have to pay $5 for parking, and the machine kiosk was broken when I went, but you can still pay through the park mobile app, which is what I did. The hike is listed as moderate, but felt borderline difficult to me (maybe I'm just out of shape). There is a lot of up hill when you first start, and because there wasn't a lot of shade combined with me going on the hottest day of the week (low 80 degrees), it did make it feel more difficult. After I parked, I was a bit confused on where to go so had to ask someone finishing up their hike for the direction. I was instructed to go up the main trail past the gate for the main trail to the lighthouse at the top. There are lots of trails here, but the one to the top of the hill is the most popular, and probably the most difficult). Once you park in the lot by the lake/pond, you cross the road to the grassy side and follow that trail to the gate that keeps the cows inside. There is another easier hike/walk your can take around the lake/pond, which is mostly flat. The views on this hike are great. Despite it being a little warmer, the breeze helped a lot. I liked the views and made it to the top after about 1 and a half hours. In total, it took me about 2 hours to finish the hike. And that's with a 20 minute break halfway going uphill. Going downhill is a lot faster. I'll be back for one of the other trails and how to bring family and friends to join.
