Micheal and I placed our deposit on Beedo back in May 2017, and set out to find a dog trainer based solely on positive techniques, rather than negative reinforcements. We adopted a 1 1/2 year old mixed breed puppy and soon found that although she was truly lovable she was also a challenge. Jennifer Zen was referred to us by our vet. Juniper is a phenomenal dog trainer. She worked with us and our German Shepard mix over the course of five appointments. He's an anxious dog, mainly when meeting strangers. I'm not sure how I can narrow down the many ways Juniper has helped me with my dogs. I'm also a dog pro - I do group off leash hiking and pet sitting. While I've done plenty of reading and research independently, I'm not a trainer, and I can't count the number of times I've checked in with J about issues with a particular dog. Her advice is always very thorough and common-sense, and importantly, never focuses on physical punishment or lazy shortcuts like other trainers. Now that I have my own bratty chihuahua mix with some dog-reactivity problems, she's been an amazing resource in figuring out a slow path to rehabilitation for him. Additionally, she taught me training games to work on his dislike of handling around feet so we can eventually trim nails. Juniper WILL get you results, but you have to be committed. She does not cut corners and won't let you, either. Dog training happens slowly in incremental steps. It's like losing weight. Crash diets get temporary dramatic results, but only a long term plan will help you reach your goals while maintaining a positive relationship with yourself. Same for training your dog! read more
