We booked Vicolo Serena Roma on AirBnb since it appears to be a quick bus ride from Stazione Tibutina that we came into town at, a quick bus ride from Stazione Termini that we would leave to the airport by, and a 30-40 minute bus ride to the main attractions in Rome. HOWEVER public transportation in Rome is not reliable. Had I known the struggles I would have endured I would have booked something closer to all of the attractions so I wouldn't have to suffer every day.
Also there is a gnarly stairway up towards to the area of the AirBnb where I meet more stairs... The stairs are chipped and broken AND there was some suspicious characters in the area. Once again, not knowing about the area prior to coming here, I don't think we could have avoided it.
As for the positive, we had a great experience with the space itself. The hosts were really nice. There was a lockbox for us to get the key and put back the key, making the arrival and departure hours flexible.
The space was clean and as modern as can be for an older city. There was a lot of decorative vases and things we had to put aside because we didn't want to damage it, and also cause we needed the surface for our own stuff. Surface is scarce in these spaces so I don't care for those decorative things taking up my space.
They had a smart TV we were able to chromecast to from our phones. There was a kitchen for light cooking. Inside the kitchen there was a washer. WASHER ONLY, NO DRYER. Beware if you plan to do laundry. The weather was rainy and damp when we came so drying the clothes was impossible. My boyfriend did laundry on our first day there and I was helping him blow dry some of his things on our last night there to pack. Sigh.
The bathroom was really cramped. I acknowledge the limitation of the space is typical in the area so I'm not taking points away because of it. Just an acknowledge. The shower is so tight there wouldn't be space to stretch your arms. Not sure how people fully clean themselves in such a tight space.
The bed was comfortable and the pillows were firm. I slept as well as I could most nights.
I feel like the AirBnb hosts did what they can to make the stay inside their home enjoyable, but a lot of the issues I have with the place is the location. Sketch area and too far from main attractions given how difficult it is to get around the city. read more
