I spent $200 for their Clear Spot which is nothing more than a wireless router that will run on battery. They claim speeds up to 4 mb but I've never seen it get even close to that. I took an online class and at times it wouldn't even stream the class material. They talk about throttling your connection if your usage gets excessive but I rarely use the service other than for class and occasional lookups. I haven't had problems with availability of service but the Clear Spot has given a couple of problems. I wouldn't blame that on Clear as all routers will give you grief at one time or another. If you have to have service Clear will do. Keep in mind they are just like all ISPs/Cable Companies/wireless carriers/gyms, if you call all they want to do is sell you something. Your questions are of little concern to them. They just want to get down to running your credit card to make sure you can pay. I was going to order over the phone but after the run down I was given I decided it was easier online. The store wasn't much better to be honest. I would have gone to the store but like I said they didn't have the accessories anyway. All in all don't buy the service for the speed. Ultimately that is why I chose them because they were so much faster than comparable services. That proved to be incorrect. I can take the service with me since the usb stick can be removed from the Clear Spot. Although I either haven't needed it or they do not have service in the areas I have gone. Again, the claim that they can hit 4mb was the biggest upset. I thought if they could just hit half of that I would be happy. But they don't even get half of their claim. I've only seen as high as 1.7mb and that is rare.

    I manage an apartment complex in Lubbock where we have had Clear Internet service for our…read moreresidents. Sadly, we were in a three year agreement with them, however, had we been able to cancel, we would have after the first few days. It has been a complete business nightmare that until now seemed never-ending. The service never worked properly from start to finish. Initially, we were told that 28 modems would be sufficient for our 224 units. This was what we agreed to. When the service was actually put into effect, the 28 modems were no where near enough. Rather than making the situation right, they wanted us to pay for more modems so the residents would have working service, even though we were promised that the technology would be sufficient. The equipment needed to be re-set constantly- literally 5-6 calls a day were coming in saying they were unable to log on and then if they could, they were quickly kicked off. The Clear representatives would not come to the property to repair or re-set the equipment. We, the office staff, were expected to repair the Clear equipment ourselves, although we are not internet/computer technicians. As the situation worsened, we were given a "help line" to pass out to our residents so they could reach a Clear representative for questions, concerns, or problems. Great, in theory. The problem was that the help line was never answered and residents would leave messages that were never returned. The issues persisted for our entire agreement. Our whole company had the same issues which were never addressed by the Clear employees. There have been constant excuses, arguments, and rudeness from all the Clear employees we have been forced to deal with. When technicians did come to the property for scheduled maintenance, they were unprofessional and unprepared. One contractor actually sexually harassed office members, as well as residents. We were forced to complain to the Clear rep, asking that he not be allowed back on any of our communities. In the last year, I have scheduled maintenance on our modems several times. Six of those times, they did not show up for the appointments after the residents were notified that someone would be at their apartment. We had to reschedule and then re-notify the residents. Out of these six times we were stood up, an apology was made only once- the final time. All other times, were heard nothing but excuses as to why they did not show up. Due to the six appointments that were not kept, we were promised a credit on our account that was never issued. When I asked about the promised credit, it was grudgingly issued. As punishment for asking when we would receive the credit, the Clear Rep, Shannon King, refused to pick up the Clear modems on the designated date we were to have them ready, as we are now finally able to end our agreement with this horrid company. We have been amazed at the poor internet service and the atrocious customer service we have received. When a company spends $860.00 per month on internet service, you expect it to work. We never felt that this was too much to ask. Apparently, it was. The residents are now thrilled that they will no longer have to deal with the sketchy internet service Clear provided and we in the office are full of relief that we will no longer be forced to deal with the unqualified and unprofessional representatives. I highly recommend that if you are in need of any type of internet service, you stay as far away from Clear as possible.
