They have a diffuser with cat pheromones, calming spray on a blanket, cat toys, cat treats, and even CAT MUSIC Seems like a really legit and good place. Felt like a gucci vet or something. Not 5 stars cuz it cost me $200 for one visit I'm just glad my baby is gonna be okay.

A pre-op exam was done by Dr. Cressey, who found her fit and healthy. Surgery was performed 5 days later on a Tuesday. Alice initially appeared to recover normally, but by the following Sunday she refused food and became lethargic. As Striegel was closed, we took Alice to Lakeside Veterinary Hospital in Carbondale IL., where they determined that she was dehydrated and that her stitches had opened. Bloodwork indicated a low white blood cell count. The wound was cleaned, she was given fluids and anti-nausea meds. She was prescribed an antibiotic to be given only if she ate. We were advised to return to Striegel for follow-up. She would not eat and so we returned to Striegel the next day, Monday. Dr. Cressey examined her at length and said the extraction site was fine despite the missing stitches. Although blood test results were borderline, Dr. Cressey diagnosed pancreatitis based on abdominal sensitivity. We were told that simple anxiety could sometimes trigger such symptoms in a dog. Alice was again given fluids along with pain meds and an appetite stimulant. We we're instructed to feed her as best we could but not to administer the antibiotic unless she ate. We were not provided with an emergency telephone number or any recourse to after-hours immediate care. In the middle of the night, Alice's breathing became labored and she began to cry. We did our best to apply pain medication. At two-thirty on that Tuesday morning, as we drove toward the only 24-hour clinic we could find, two hours away near St. Louis, Alice died in my wife's arms. Three weeks later, I can still hear my wife crying as I write this. A necropsy was performed at the U of I Veterinary school but results were inconclusive. Striegel called to inform us that the invoice for that necropsy was ready a week before the report was returned. Like other doctors, veterinarians swear an oath upon graduation: primum non nocere, first do no harm. Striegel did irrevocable harm to our Alice, deep and lasting harm to me and my wife. They did not provide the thorough, responsible care and follow-up we were promised and dutifully paid for. Alice was our best friend and constant companion. If you care for your pet as much as we did for her, you would be well advised to look elsewhere for a good veterinarian.

I've unfortunately had to take my little buddy here three times now and each time he has been taken care of and treated well. I came in sobbing once convinced my pet was dying and everyone was so calming and reassuring. Only thing negative thing I will say is it is really expensive. Between the three visits I spent over $350 on what could have been closer to $75 at a regular vet or the low-price veterinary clinic timber-trails. But unfortunately I haven't had the luxury of being able to go there as they've been closed for a month and have a month to go! That being said, can you really put a price on the value of knowing your pet is going to be okay and is getting the treatment they need? All in all, they're fast, prompt, patient, detailed, and always there if you have questions. This place has calmed my nerves so many times and I appreciate them so much. Ps: indoor cats can get tapeworms apparently! And its appalling and disgusting and not a good time so treat your indoor cat for fleas. :)

Over this past week, I've brought my guinea pig in 3 times for urinary tract issues and GI issues, it wasn't improving like any of us hoped. I had to let my fur baby go to rest and the staff was so supportive of my decisions. Dr. Thomas and the rest of the staff treat small animals like any other pet/family member and that is what has made this process of mourning a lot easier. If my rabbit ever needs to get looked at, I'm coming here. I'm even considering switching my dog and cat to them. Thank you so much for your time and assistance. It's very evident that you all have great bed side manner. Will recommend to everyone - 1 star because the prices suck honestly

I don't like this Pet Wellness Vet facility or Great Paws Pet Lodge Kennel/grooming care. I have…read morehad experience with both over the last few years and have been less than impressed each time. I knew they were not great, but trusted they would provide my dogs with the basic needs all living things require. My most recent experience was disillusioning, and confirmation of the incompetence pervasive throughout these two facilities. After leaving my dogs in their care for a five-night period, I returned to find one of my dogs in need of immediate healthcare. His labored breathing and deep hoarse cough were strong indicators something was seriously wrong. My own vet immediately placed him in oxygen, not sure he would survive the night. He was severely dehydrated, with fever and labored breathing. My daily phone calls to this kennel gave me assurance my dogs were doing fine; however, the day I returned to get my dogs, I noticed they were not being cared for according to the instructions I left or their agreement to follow them. My effort to return to this kennel to inform them of my dog's condition and gain information about their routines and protocols while my dogs were in their care, proved futile. I was told there was nobody available to help me. When I inquired about mgt., I was told there was none. I asked about the hierarchy of mgt, however, nobody knew anything about that or who it involved. When I told them I would be filing a police report and contacting my atty in an effort to get the information I was seeking, it resulted in a hostile response from the person who suddenly appeared as manager on duty that night; and I was told I could be escorted out and told I'm not welcome there. They were not interested in my observation that my dog's water bowl was empty when I arrived to get him or that the food bowl filled to the brim with a lot of dry food spilled across the floor, may have been factors in his condition. They expressed no interest in the condition of my dog or in the desire to take note to prevent this from occurring to another pet. Their inability to be forthcoming with information and their evasive nature in spite of their mission statement and their statement on Great Paws Lodge website proclaiming their dedication to you and your pet, is worth noting. I am posting this review because transparency in business and customer service is important, and because it will strengthen the pattern clearly emerging in the reviews for this business.

WHAT? i'm going somewhere else tomorrow morning ASAP because something is just NOT RIGHT. They are also just NOT FRIENDLY, and they OVER CHARGE!! Quotes are never right and they DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL!! edit: TOOK HER TO WEST FRANKFORT ANIMAL HOSPITAL AND THEY SAID SHE HAS AN INNER EAR INFECTION CAUSING VESTIBULAR PROBLEMS!! she has to have 4 medications, ear drops, and had to have 2 shots!! and it was STILL $70 CHEAPER THAN PET WELLNESS EVEN THOUGH PET WELLNESS TOLD ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH HER AND SENT HER HOME!! I called to complain, and was told a manager would call me back about a refund. NEVER got a call back. I called back the next day, and after a heated discussion where they tried to give me the run around and smooth me over, they say it's not possible to receive a refund and they will be calling me tomorrow. Not sure what for, but will be looking forward to it!! I paid $570 TOTAL between both facilities to find out my dog has an INNER EAR INFECTION!! ALMOST $600!! RIDICULOUS!!
