Compared to other vets, I feel his pricing is quite reasonable, especially given his quality of care. When I was living in Southern Illinois and doing rescue, he even helped me find good homes for many of the cats and dogs I brought to him for spay and neuter and he always responded quickly to emergencies. The few sad times that my husband and I had to have a cat put to sleep, Dr. Woodcock gave us time to say goodbye and made the transition as gentle as possible for our fur babies. I only wish I could find a vet like him now that I live in Los Angeles.

A pre-op exam was done by Dr. Cressey, who found her fit and healthy. Surgery was performed 5 days later on a Tuesday. Alice initially appeared to recover normally, but by the following Sunday she refused food and became lethargic. As Striegel was closed, we took Alice to Lakeside Veterinary Hospital in Carbondale IL., where they determined that she was dehydrated and that her stitches had opened. Bloodwork indicated a low white blood cell count. The wound was cleaned, she was given fluids and anti-nausea meds. She was prescribed an antibiotic to be given only if she ate. We were advised to return to Striegel for follow-up. She would not eat and so we returned to Striegel the next day, Monday. Dr. Cressey examined her at length and said the extraction site was fine despite the missing stitches. Although blood test results were borderline, Dr. Cressey diagnosed pancreatitis based on abdominal sensitivity. We were told that simple anxiety could sometimes trigger such symptoms in a dog. Alice was again given fluids along with pain meds and an appetite stimulant. We we're instructed to feed her as best we could but not to administer the antibiotic unless she ate. We were not provided with an emergency telephone number or any recourse to after-hours immediate care. In the middle of the night, Alice's breathing became labored and she began to cry. We did our best to apply pain medication. At two-thirty on that Tuesday morning, as we drove toward the only 24-hour clinic we could find, two hours away near St. Louis, Alice died in my wife's arms. Three weeks later, I can still hear my wife crying as I write this. A necropsy was performed at the U of I Veterinary school but results were inconclusive. Striegel called to inform us that the invoice for that necropsy was ready a week before the report was returned. Like other doctors, veterinarians swear an oath upon graduation: primum non nocere, first do no harm. Striegel did irrevocable harm to our Alice, deep and lasting harm to me and my wife. They did not provide the thorough, responsible care and follow-up we were promised and dutifully paid for. Alice was our best friend and constant companion. If you care for your pet as much as we did for her, you would be well advised to look elsewhere for a good veterinarian.

Dr Miller Has been our life long family veterinarian. he and his staff have always showed kindness…read moreand compassion when interacting with them. my most memorable event this back to you late 1960s on my pet Siamese cat "Sam" Who was an outdoor cat He had been missing for several days when our neighbor discovered that he was in their garage He apparently had sustained injuries suspected to be a ruptured diaphragm from being struck by a car We sought Vet care And were advised by Dr. Miller That he had a ruptured diaphragm And that he would have to be put down. A traumatic and emotional event. We said our goodbyes and left him in the care of Dr. Miller. 4-6 weeks later We received a call from Dr. Miller's office staff who informed us that he did not like giving up on injured animals and that he had ordered a special airway that could be used in surgery to provide respiratory support during cases. So he proceeded to repair the ruptured diaphragm. and during the surgical procedure one of his staff members provided respiratory support during so that Sam would have oxygen. We had quite an emotional reunion. I remember that my mother offered to pay Dr. Miller for his care of our cat which was declined.

I have found the Veterinarians and Staff at CareVet to be equally capable and competent. We recently adopted two sweet, beautiful, and loving Puppies from the good folks on East Main in Marion. One of my girls, Lulu (Argo) became very ill and was passing and vomiting blood. Very sick girl going down quickly. It was the weekend. Dr. Seals came in and assessed, tested, and stabilized my Girl. She expedited the test results. Upon assessing the results Dr. Seals advised that in order to save Lulu's life she would require the equivalent of intensive care in a Veterinary 24/7 ICU in St.Louis back in July. Lulu recovered and is teceiving ongoing follow-up and care from Dr. Seals. I could not be happier with Dr. Seals and the good folks at CareVet. Dr. Seal's professional competence, compassion, and decision making are the reasons my very sick Girl is alive today. We will all miss Dr. Troop and Deborah; however, it is sure affirming that are four legged family are still in competent and compassionate hands. I have no reservation whatsoever giving Dr. Seals and all the good folks at CareVet my highest regard and endorsement.

The vet tech (Sarah) and Dr. Troop were very kind to my animals and kept me informed about everything they were doing and the vaccines they were treating them with!
