In September 2025, my husband and I returned from an 8 day vacation to find our dog's right eye looked a little hazy. Over the course of the day, her right eye became completely cloudy and I knew she had to see an ophthalmologist right away. Thankfully Yelp led me to the Veterinary Eye Clinic, and the amazing Dr. Sheahan! My family and I will forever be grateful Dr. Sheahan was able prescribe medications to help us heal our dog's severely infected corneal ulcer. Dr. Sheahan explained everything thoroughly as she examined Pebbles and actually showed me pictures of the complications to look out for. She was frank about the high risk of rupture with any impact and detailed the precautions that the we needed to take. She was straightforward about the low odds of healing without surgery due to the severity of the ulcer. Although 1:3 odds of healing with medication sounded grim, with Dr. Sheahan's guidance and recommendations, we got the miracle we needed! Now, 7 months later we got the best news possible!! Her corneal ulcer which was initially 99% deep had fully healed! I knew from reading other reviews about Dr. Sheahan that Pebbles was in the best hands with the Veterinary Eye Clinic. We had a wonderful experience with the entire ophthalmology team here. My Shiba Inu recently underwent glaucoma surgery, and the recovery has been going very well so far. They were able to see us on short notice when the disease suddenly appeared, which we really appreciated. Dr. Potnis clearly explained the condition, what it could mean long term, and the treatment options available, helping us make an informed decision. Dr. Goldenberg performed the surgery and did an excellent job--we felt very confident in her expertise throughout the process. Dr. Sheahan, who continued the aftercare, has been equally outstanding. She's been attentive, patient, and caring during follow-ups, even calling to check in and help adjust medications. The entire staff (Renee, Juliana, Ariana--apologies we don't have everyone's names) has been incredibly friendly and compassionate every step of the way. In April 2024, my dog Roxy experienced one of the most traumatic events of her life and mine. She was attacked and bitten in the face and the injury was so severe that it permanently damaged her right eye. It happened on a late Saturday afternoon when almost every vet clinic was closing. I rushed her to two different urgent care hospitals only to be told it would be a 4-hour wait just to be seen. I was standing there covered in her blood, crying, terrified, and completely alone. I couldn't imagine making her wait in pain like that. Thankfully, VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital took us in immediately and stabilized her, but they didn't have an ophthalmologist available. The veterinarian there made a personal call to a former classmate who now works at Veterinary Eye Clinic in Alhambra and by some miracle, Dr. Jennifer Sheahan and her team were still in the office for a meeting even though they were officially closed. They told us to come right away. Something I will never forget. When we arrived, Dr. Sheahan greeted us with compassion, honesty and patience. She gently explained that Roxy's injury was extremely severe and that we had two options: remove the eye completely or attempt surgery knowing there was only a 1% chance she would ever see out of it again. Hearing that broke my heart. I wasn't ready to make the decision to remove her eye that night, so we chose to try surgery first. From the moment we stepped through their doors, Dr. Sheahan and her entire team went above and beyond for Roxy. Dr. Sheahan even gave me her personal number and stayed in touch throughout Roxy's healing process. I never once felt alone. They were rooting for her every step of the way, and that meant everything during such a frightening time. Today, Roxy's eye is healed, although it looks different. Accepting her new appearance took time, but she is happy, healthy, and still the same loving soul. And that would not have been possible without the kindness, expertise, and genuine compassion from Dr. Sheahan and the Veterinary Eye Clinic team. What's up: Our senior dog suddenly developed a cloudy eye with discharge! We were recommended by our primary vet to get it checked out by an ophthalmologist. Parking: Parking was available in their front lot. The building is located right on the corner of Valley Blvd and Cabrillo Ave (right across from Aloha Food Factory). Environment: Appointments are required. We called early in the morning and they were able to squeeze us in for an afternoon appointment. The office is well lit and comfortable; they also have WiFi and jars of pet snacks at the waiting area. We checked in at the reception desk, got our dog weighed, and were then shown to the exam room. After a short wait, Jocelyn came in to ask some questions as well as perform some initial eye tests. Dr. Chang came by afterwards to do additional tests and based on those these, he was able to provide easy to understand explanations of the findings as well as the next steps to take. Payment is made at the end of the visit at the reception desk. What was ordered: - Eye examination - Medical eye drops Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. Dr. Chang, Dr. Jaggers, and the staff were awesome. They treated our doggo so nicely and were able to determine what was bothering him. We were also really appreciative of how well Dr. Chang explained things. Dr. Sheahan is amazing! My dog has a bad eye injury and my best friend who's in the vet industry referred me to her. It was an hour drive for me but it was so worth it!!! Dr. Sheahan explained everything in such detail, but in a way us normal folk can understand it. She showed me everything going on in his eye, all the images, had me take pics with my cell from books that had pictures and write-ups of what I needed to keep an eye out for in the future (no pun intended lol) and she played a video for me to watch while they ran tests in the back that taught me how to test my dog's vision tracking. Dr Sheehan and her team put me and my dog at such ease! after a follow up with our general vet they said we should try to see if we can get an appt with an ophthalmologist before our next follow up. I called their Alhambra office but their next available wasn't until 2 weeks. I called their Pomona office and they were able to get me in within the next 2 hrs. They also had an open slot where the doctor would be in and out with other patients and they'd be able to squeeze us in if we couldn't make the 12pm spot since we had an hour+ drive from LA. We got there 1230 and were seen within 15 mins. My dog isn't the most comfortable at the vet but they were patient with him. We were able to leave the room since he's a bit protective and watch from outside with a peep hole (never had the opportunity to do that) Dr Sheehan educated us on my dog's melting ulcer and how severe it was. She wanted to make sure there wasn't anything lodged inside so we had to sedate my dog but they did it very quickly. Her and her team were also conscious of the costs and sedating my dog for the 2nd time that week. Her front desk team was also so so so responsive before I got there. They upped our eye drop meds from our general vet. I'd send in photos to their team and they'd review it within that day and give me a call. They really put you at ease with how much care they provide for you and your dog. After sending another set of photos and videos to them, Dr Sheehan had called me directly after a long day at the clinic to reassure my dog's eye looks good/healing. Took my 13 year old pug Bruce here for a consult. He had been suffering from a severe dry eye on his right eye. My prior vet just said to keep giving him artificial tears to help with tear production. Fast forward a few months later he started to grow a mass on the dry eye. Lots of gunk kept building up, took him to my new vet and was referred to Dr Tracy. During the consult she spotted the problem and gave me 2 options. Surgically remove the mass and he would have to go under or doing a cryo surgery. We opted for the cryo surgery. She performed the procedure very quick and I was able to bring Bruce home after about an hour! They sent the mass for testing. She put him on a treatment that had some eye medication and eye drops as well as some anti inflammatory stuff. His eye was healing nicely and noticed his eye was very glossy. A few days later I got a call from Dr Tracy with the results of the mass and it was benign! A big relief Had our post procedure check up today and when they were doing the eye test, the strips were filled with tears I almost cried lol. I remember a month ago when we did the test there was no tears to be seen on the eye test for his right eye. Half of the front reception were welcoming but not the kind of intro a new client would expect. Almost felt as if reception didn't want to greet or talk to us so that was disappointing but we checked in for our appointment anyway. Fortunately, the rest of the staff and vet techs that helped inside the room were kind, patient and gentle when performing the eye exams on our yorkie. Our yorkie was not happy with the process but the exams were not invasive. Dr. Chang then checked our yorkie's eyes and thoroughly explained the issue our old dog was having. He took his time to answer questions and we feel confident knowing our yorkie is doing great overall. He does have cataracts as a result of aging but is natural for a 17 year old furbaby. I am so grateful to Dr. Sheahan. I wish I could give her 10 stars! My yorkie had developed hyper-mature cataracts in both eyes. Her poor eyesight was causing her to be very fearful in new environments. Dr. Sheahan performed cataract surgery on both of her eyes, and now my yorkie can see again and is no longer afraid! Because her cataracts were so advanced, her case has been challenging. Dr. Sheahan did a fantastic job in surgery, and her post-op care has been outstanding. I have had amazing experiences with my 2 cats who have congenital upper eyelid agenesis. From the initial consultation, through their surgeries (they follow up the next day to see how they were doing), the entire staff has been wonderful. Our Benjamin lost his vision on a Thursday night. We found Dr. Sheahan next day and she diagnosed him with the cataract on right eye and lens luxation on left eye. She recommended we take care of both eyes while being completely open about the possible outcomes, both negative and positive. She was able to assemble a team that Saturday for his surgeries. She also mentioned that she's going out of town the following week but her team of doctors and staffs will be able to help us and that she will be in touch herself via text. Benjamin came out of the surgeries with vision back immediately on his right eye. Dr. Sheahan stayed true to her words by making sure that we were able to keep track of the recovery process. Dr. Chang, Dr. Potnis and everyone at both Pomona and Alhambra locations helped us measuring his eye pressures and check on healing of his scars, even seeing us on 4th on July. They sent us home with a print out every visit with clear instructions on how to administer several eye drops and medications. Location: Pamona Dr. Sheahan was absolutely worth the vary long drive. She was incredibly thorough in evaluating my dog's eye ulcer, which has been slow to heal. Her expertise as a specialist is rock solid, and the clarity and confidence she brought to the diagnosis gave me such relief. I had read reviews about other ophthalmologist locally, and they were all relatively inconsistent, which didn't give me great confidence which is why I opted for the drive. Dr. Sheahans reviews are high and consistent for a reason. She is very confident, articulate, and has integrity. Rather than rushing to recommend another surgery, she carefully assessed my dog--who currently has no squinting, tearing, or discomfort--and suggested we continue with antibiotics and serum. There aren't enough words to express how grateful I am to Dr. Sheahan and her amazing team at Veterinary Eye Clinic. The care and love they showed our dog Schmidt was beyond measure. They changed our lives for the better (and of course, our dog's as well). This is a long post, but it's one I feel compelled to write to fully capture how amazing Dr. Sheahan and the VEC team have been.  For the past few years, we've known that Schmidt has had vision problems. As a cocker spaniel, he was especially prone to them, we knew. We started to notice that he was having issues with his vision when he was around 7 or 8 years old (he's 12 now). His right eye was getting cloudier, and so we took him to an eye clinic in Pasadena. The doctor we saw there was very knowledgeable, but she always seemed like she was in a rush during our appointments. She would examine Schmidt and after literal seconds, she would make recommendations for procedures without thoroughly explaining them. Because she always seemed like she was in a rush, we felt hesitant to ask questions. We would be seen for less than $10 minutes, and then be stuck with a bill for several hundred dollars.  I think the lack of trust is the main reason why we hesitated to bring Schmidt to the eye doctor for years.  Fast forward to late 2024. We noticed that Schmidt's left eye was getting more and more cloudy. By this time, his right eye was blind, as his retina had detached. Seemingly overnight, he started bumping into walls. He was scared to go down the stairs. We had to confront the fact that maybe he was going blind. This was when we learned about the VEC and Dr. Sheahan. We read the reviews about how loving and caring she was not just to her pet patients, but also the families, and so we made an appointment. The difference between Dr. Sheahan and the other doctor was night and day. From the moment we walked in for our appointment, the staff and nurses were so attentive. They never seemed rushed, like the Pasadena vet did. They took the time to hear us out and empathize with the heartbreak we were experiencing. During our appointment, we were seen not only by Dr. Sheahan but also her resident doctors and vet students who were interning at VEC. Each of them took the time to understand Schmidt's case. Initially, we thought that a cataract surgery would do the trick to fix Schmidt's vision. When we went to the pre-op appointment in Feb 2025, Dr. Sheahan and her team shared the unfortunate news that Schmidt's lens had displaced. Cataract surgery was no longer possible--they would have to remove the lens. Obviously, our family was terrified about Schmidt losing his vision, but Dr. Sheahan and her team was able to take him in that same day and do the emergency procedure to save his vision. Those hours that Schmidt was awaiting and going through surgery were some of the scariest moments, but the VEC team made sure to update us literally every half hour to let us know Schmidt's status. I can't tell you what it meant that they did this.  After his surgery, Schmidt experienced a slew of complications. He developed glaucoma and at one point, his eye became inflamed to the point where his vision was in danger. It was clear throughout that Dr. Sheahan and her team were determined to do all they could do to save his vision. They checked Schmidt nearly every single day for the first few weeks, and managed to figure out the right combination of medicines (both oral and topical drops) to stabilize his eye pressure. After a few weeks of trial and error, we finally landed on the right combination that has allowed Schmidt to heal.  Again, beyond the amazing medical care, what my family was most grateful for was the attentiveness of Dr. Sheahan and her team--from the front desk admin who greeted us with smiles to the medical staff who were up to speed on Schmidt's condition every time we visited. They continued to call and text us to check in and see how Schmidt was doing. It really felt like they treated Schmidt like one of their own. Like family.  I know for a fact that had we known about Dr. Sheahan years ago, Schmidt might be in a different situation now. But as she reminded us, we can't turn back the clock, we can only do our best and move forward. I'm happy to report that a month after his surgery, Schmidt is pretty much back to his old self. He is now "farsighted" but he has adjusted well to his new normal. If you have a dog that is experiencing vision issues, I cannot recommend Dr. Sheahan and the VEC team enough. Our 4 year old Shih Tzu had an incident with her eye (partially popped out) and I immediately rushed her to our local emergency vet who was able to get it back in without surgery. A few days later, we took her in for a follow up and while we were waiting in the exam room, her eye ruptured (a little bubble could be seen in the middle of her eye). We were referred to Veterinary Eye Clinic and they were able to see her right away at their Alhambra office so we rushed over there (in the rain). We were told to save her vision and for best comfort, she would need surgery that night. Dr. Sheahan was about to go on maternity leave the next morning but told us she would stay that night to perform the surgery. She kept us updated throughout the whole process and even stayed to meet up when we came to pick up our dog around 9pm. She was awesome. The surgery is pricey but thank goodness I had just signed up for pet insurance the month before and it was covered. I had to make an ad-hoc recheck appointment and Dr Chang examined her. Very good communication and I sent them photos via text about things we were concerned about. We've come back 3 more times for post op rechecks and all the staff here has been so kind and they're very responsive over text message too. Other than the Alhambra location, we've been to their satellite location in Rancho Cucamonga and seen Dr Goldenberg. Other than Alhambra and Calabasas, they're opening a new location in Pomona so once that is open that's where we will be going. :) read more

I meant to write this review two years ago but forgot. One hopes to never have to go to a veterinary eye clinic so I am going to be optimistic and say we may never come back here again. Touchwood! Two years ago, we brought in our 4-year old cat who had spots in his eye that were multiplying. Over a few visits spaced several months apart, Dr Chang monitored the changes in Mambo's eye, and explained what our options were, from the least to most invasive. We went with the most "aggressive" option - enucleation - because at the time, Mambo was still young and so many people had told us that one-eyed cats are not handicapped in any way. They can still do all the things. (This is true) Now, Mambo's review of this place may differ from mine (because he will no longer go inside his carrier), but I thought everyone here was wonderful and kind. I saw how compassionately and gently they handled Mambo, and how clear and thorough they were in explaining everything. After the enucleation surgery, as stressful as it was to separate our cats and confine Mambo in a cone for 10 days, his recovery was smooth and he healed with no issues. He is now a very handsome and healthy pirate. We are glad we went through with this procedure at VEC. P.S. VEC was recommended to us because they are an independent practice and not corporate-owned. My dog had lens luxation on 1 eye previously. We were told by a previous vet that she would be okay to not have surgery done since she didn't seem to be in pain and that recovery might be hard since she is older. I was nervous to go through with it because she is 14 years old and only 3lbs. A few months later, I noticed the same thing suddenly happened to her good eye too. It was a Saturday and I panicked and started looking for a clinic that was open and found Veterinary Eye Clinic here on yelp! They were able to see me right away even if they were supposed to be closed that day for a team meeting. Dr. Sheahan evaluated my dog and explained everything to me in detail, and answered all my questions. She is so so patient and kind! After the consultation, I felt so reassured and decided to go through with the surgery for both of her eyes. I really wished I found them sooner! From the 1st consultation, to surgery, and post surgery, Dr. Sheahan has been so kind and supportive. You can really tell she cares for her patients! My dog ended up having some other issues going on besides her eyes, and Dr. Sheahan helped us super quick to get a referral to other awesome specialists! I really can't express just how thankful I am! My dogs are so important to me. Seeing them sick is so hard, but Dr. Sheahan and everyone at VEC make things so much easier. We always feel welcome! Dr. Sheahan and the staff at Veterinary Eye Clinic Pomona have been incredible. Everyone is so nice, kind, compassionate and caring. Dr. Sheahan is very thorough in her exams and explanations of diagnosis and treatment. Our boy Ryder, came to see Dr. Sheahan at the Alhambra location after his diabetes diagnosis and then we followed her to the new location in Pomona where he ultimately had cataract surgery. The surgery was a success but our boy needed some extra care with recovery because of his tummy issues and diabetes. I can't thank Dr. Sheahan enough for going above and beyond holding our hand (and paws) as we navigated the recovery journey. She was incredibly caring and provided the extra attention we needed to get through it, all while being so understanding of our special needs (doggie and fur mama). The staff is always so friendly and caring, greeting with smiles and quick to respond whenever we needed to get a hold of the doctor or medical staff. Dr. Tracy Nguyen Jaggers was the doctor that I saw. She was super professional and understanding. Dr. Tracy took a look at Cal and gave me the facts. She was very straightforward.
