Feels much better after the fantastic care at the VEG Oceanside
Lesly A.

I walked in with my nearly 5-year old doodle, Lincoln, in my arms, his heart was racing. Dr. Emma Smith overheard me and immediately came with stethoscope in hand. She and the vet techs went to work right away with meds and monitors. I was scared and impressed all at the same time. They made sure to monitor him and ensured I was comfortable and afforded privacy when I needed it. I was there long enough to observe their care of the other pets brought in that night. Cannot recommend VEG Oceanside enough. The only place to take a pet in need of emergency services. Thank you to Dr. Emma Smith for taking immediate action and all of her team

I have been to VEG in Oceanside twice now, both times on weekends when my regular vet was closed, and I honestly could not be more grateful this place exists. Walking into an emergency vet is always stressful, but the staff here immediately made things feel calmer. Everyone at the front desk and the techs were kind, patient, and never made me feel rushed or silly for being worried. We saw Dr. Leah Sauerwein, and she was amazing. She explained everything in a way that actually made sense, talked through options, and made sure I felt comfortable with the plan. You can tell she really cares, not just about the pets, but about the owners too. That level of trust is huge when you are dealing with something unexpected. Both visits were smooth, professional, and compassionate from start to finish. I left feeling informed, supported, and confident in the care my pet received. I would absolutely come back if I ever needed emergency care again, and I would recommend this location to anyone in the area.

African Grey Vent Protrusion.

We had a potentially life-threatening situation with our African Grey parrot, Rasta. He had a protrusion from his vent area that is considered an emergency situation for a bird like this. After calling around we found that VEG ER in Oceanside was highly rated and they had someone who could see him right away. Dr. Kelly, saw Rasta and I can't say enough positive things about her and the staff at this facility. She was so competent and knew exactly what to do and how to do it. During the visit she took the opportunity to instruct another less experienced protégé and went through a very thorough examination of him as well. After examination and treatment, Rasta was placed in a warm, oxygenated "case/cage" and was able to relax a bit before we left. The next morning his symptoms have not returned, and he seems to be doing well. We're so happy to know that there is a good avian vet available in our area to care for our bird if an emergency should arise.

I wish I could give them 100 stars! I was there 16.5 hours with my 5lb Japanese Chin, Mei Mei, who unbeknownst to me, had pneumonia and I am in awe of the vets and techs there. I've never gotten to watch them work like this or for this length of time. The Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) is something that I've never seen before and I am so impressed. It's open concept so everyone being treated is all in the same room and they let you stay with your pet the entire time, even during surgery. They even have rooms that you can sleep in! They let you lay on the floor and hold your baby, they get on the floor to help your baby. I couldn't stay with Mei touching her or even letting her see me because of the spaz attack she has when she sees me which causes her to gasp for air, but they got me a padded bench to sit next to her chamber, close but out of sight. I watched them do a surgery on a cat, a surgery on a dog, leap tables to get to a dog who was seizing, to hold him safe while another tech skidded across the floor with meds like out of a movie, I saw them sprint across the room to stop a large dog from hurting himself, deal with sobbing pet parents (me), carry a massive pig in, x ray that massive pig, treat a ferret, treat a dog for rattlesnake bite, and all the other stuff- it was non. Stop. all with calm yet fierce professionalism and kindness and caring. It takes some special people to work in this field! Competent af. These people know what they are doing. I came flying through their door at 9am with Mei in significant breathing distress like a bat out of hell. I practically fell through the door. I thought she would die in the car on the way over there. I called to let them know I was on my way and they were ready for me when I got there. They shouted "triage!" And 4 people rushed over and immediately put Mei on oxygen and went to work troubleshooting. They put her in the oxygen chamber right away. They noticed that when she saw me she lost her shit and started gasping like crazy so they told me to hide to keep her calmer; and they were right. When I laid down on a bench and closed my eyes I awoke to the doctor putting a blanket on me and the nurse had left a pillow. The open concept allows drs and nurses to move quickly and freely and see everything and communicate things that they need. There were not curtains to block what was happening, no doors to get in the way, you see it all. I appreciated it because I like to KNOW. I want to SEE, otherwise how can you know they are doing it right? I highly, highly recommend them! Blessings on all the heir houses! Truly angels on earth. I owe them a debt I can never repay- they saved my Mei Dr Romy was our doctor and she even stayed late to make sure that Mei didn't get lost in the shuffle during shift change- and I'm talking hours late. If there was ever a vet that deserves donations and volunteers to help it's them. Donate! Volunteer! I am so grateful to them I can't recommend them enough!

My dog Spec was attacked by my roommate's pit bull. The first emergency vet I called said it would be 5 to 6 hours before Spec could be seen. VEG Oceanside was able to see Spec right away. I loved their open plan where my dog was always with me. We had to wait for a second vet to come in before starting treatment, but Spec was then stitched up with care and precision, a process that took over 2 hours. Due to complications, we spent the night for observation. We were given a private room with a couch opened into a bed. My other, uninjured dog was also welcomed. The care we were provided was the best I've ever witnessed. The support I received was amazing. Every single vet and support person was excellent. They ensured we received not only veterinary care, but snacks, drinks and water. And a phone charger. This event was one of the most traumatic of my life. VEG helped make a horrific experience into a positive one and helped save Spec's life. Thank you!!!

I brought my pup Eugene in because he wouldn't stop throwing up. The team at Veterinary Emergency Group went over all of the treatment options at different price points and clearly explained the benefits and risks of each one. They were extremely friendly, accommodating, and truly cared about my fur baby. X-rays showed he had an obstruction, and we made the decision to operate sooner rather than later which we're so grateful for, because there's no way he would have been able to pass it on his own. Both the morning and night shift doctors and nurses were incredible. Every single person we interacted with was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. I chose to stay with Gene overnight, and they set up a little room with a pull-out couch, complete with sheets and a pillow. They let me be as involved as I wanted and never once made me feel like I was in the way or asking too many questions. They even brought me a heater at night, and one employee gave my husband the chair he was sitting on when we went to ask if there was one available. The doctors and nurses explained every step of the process in a way that made us feel informed and supported. We also asked if we could split the payment between multiple cards (which some places don't love), and they were incredibly understanding, no judgment, no pressure. We are so grateful for VEG and the amazing staff at the Oceanside location. They took such great care of Eugene and of us. Highly recommend.

A healthy Lucy :)

Our dog Lucy had a life-threatening emergency and I rushed her to VEG late at night. From the moment we walked in, the team moved fast and with purpose. They had her stabilized quickly and kept me informed every step of the way. What stood out most was the compassion. They took the time to explain everything clearly and were genuinely sensitive to the financial stress that comes with emergency vet visits. You could tell this team actually cares about the animals and the families behind them. Lucy made a full recovery and I'm so grateful. If you ever find yourself in an emergency with your pet, these are the people you want on your side. I can't recommend VEG highly enough.

I had a great experience at Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) while visiting my parents for the holidays from the Bay Area. Our family cat accidentally scratched my French Bulldog's eye, and the team at VEG was incredibly attentive and efficient. They quickly examined her eye, explained the diagnosis clearly, and came up with a thoughtful care plan. Their space is large, open, and very clean, which helped make a stressful situation feel more comfortable. It was late at night, cold, and raining, and I really appreciated the small touches like offering snacks and coffee. I also witnessed how genuinely caring the staff was with other pets and their owners who came in. Since I'm far from home and our regular vet, they also emailed the records from this visit directly to my vet so I can follow up once we're back home. I'm very grateful for the care they provided.

Watch out for overcharged, made use of your emotion! Better wait to go to your primary vet during business hour.

BE WARY OF THIS VET!!!…read more Took my cat here, told the doctor I was worried he was blocked and had a UTI. The doctor dismissed this and insisted he was not peeing due to anxiety/stress. They had me wait in the waiting room for hours on end, and after hours of waiting on my cat(who was in critical condition), I asked for an update and they said it would be a couple more hours. When I got him back, it seemed like he was kept in his crate and not monitored. They charged me for the checkup ($180), tests and medicine, no X-rays... They did not give me the results for the test until I called and asked the next day. They also were supposed to fill a prescription that never happened. That was about $700. Again, told me it was STRESS that affects his ability to pee. We go to another vet and they immediately find crystals in his urine and know he is blocked. He also has a UTI. He could've died. Waste of money and time. Lots of other people have said their pets of died because of the care here. Sad as fuck.

Each time we meet I leave with so much information. She's been great and I only wish we started training them with Amillie when my girls were younger. You won't regret this partnership or Amillie's expertise. Training comes natural to her. It's a gift and that's with me already having had 2 large breed independent dogs before working with her!
