My dog Spec was attacked by my roommate's pit bull. The first emergency vet I called said it would be 5 to 6 hours before Spec could be seen. VEG Oceanside was able to see Spec right away. I loved their open plan where my dog was always with me. We had to wait for a second vet to come in before starting treatment, but Spec was then stitched up with care and precision, a process that took over 2 hours. Due to complications, we spent the night for observation. We were given a private room with a couch opened into a bed. My other, uninjured dog was also welcomed. The care we were provided was the best I've ever witnessed. The support I received was amazing. Every single vet and support person was excellent. They ensured we received not only veterinary care, but snacks, drinks and water. And a phone charger. This event was one of the most traumatic of my life. VEG helped make a horrific experience into a positive one and helped save Spec's life. Thank you!!!

    A healthy Lucy :)

Our dog Lucy had a life-threatening emergency and I rushed her to VEG late at night. From the moment we walked in, the team moved fast and with purpose. They had her stabilized quickly and kept me informed every step of the way. What stood out most was the compassion. They took the time to explain everything clearly and were genuinely sensitive to the financial stress that comes with emergency vet visits. You could tell this team actually cares about the animals and the families behind them. Lucy made a full recovery and I'm so grateful. If you ever find yourself in an emergency with your pet, these are the people you want on your side. I can't recommend VEG highly enough.

I brought my pup Eugene in because he wouldn't stop throwing up. The team at Veterinary Emergency Group went over all of the treatment options at different price points and clearly explained the benefits and risks of each one. They were extremely friendly, accommodating, and truly cared about my fur baby. X-rays showed he had an obstruction, and we made the decision to operate sooner rather than later which we're so grateful for, because there's no way he would have been able to pass it on his own. Both the morning and night shift doctors and nurses were incredible. Every single person we interacted with was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. I chose to stay with Gene overnight, and they set up a little room with a pull-out couch, complete with sheets and a pillow. They let me be as involved as I wanted and never once made me feel like I was in the way or asking too many questions. They even brought me a heater at night, and one employee gave my husband the chair he was sitting on when we went to ask if there was one available. The doctors and nurses explained every step of the process in a way that made us feel informed and supported. We also asked if we could split the payment between multiple cards (which some places don't love), and they were incredibly understanding, no judgment, no pressure. We are so grateful for VEG and the amazing staff at the Oceanside location. They took such great care of Eugene and of us. Highly recommend.

Couldn't recommend this lovely place more. As an antsy dog mom with a sensitive pup, I've called a few times just to make sure what my dog has eaten wasn't an emergency. Today was our first time actually coming in, and I was so pleasantly surprised by how easy and calm and kind everything was. Leah and Maddie were so incredibly kind and helpful and so tolerant of my anxious dog and got us in and out within an hour or so. They were so thorough in explaining the bill, the procedures, and home care. When I was sweating the price tag, Maddie helped us readjust and decide on what treatments worked for us. I am SO grateful to have a place like this near us. Thank you guys!!!

    Already feeling better

I typically don't leave reviews but the compassion and empathy of the wonderful RVT's and Dr. Uretta left me speechless. When my dog had a sudden emergency at 4am I was terrified. Not only this, but I was not in an appropriate financial position for this situation. The staff at VEG met me with care and compassion. When presented with a $2000 estimate I was panicking. I told them I had no money, not even for the exam. Instead of turning me away, the incredible Dr. Uretta and staff provided my dog with supportive care, free of charge. They absolutely did not have to do that, but did it anyways. I cannot be more thankful. In a time of true panic and where my worst nightmare had come true, they still provided incredible care to my girl and she's already feeling better. Thank you so much VEG, you give me hope.

I had a great experience at Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) while visiting my parents for the holidays from the Bay Area. Our family cat accidentally scratched my French Bulldog's eye, and the team at VEG was incredibly attentive and efficient. They quickly examined her eye, explained the diagnosis clearly, and came up with a thoughtful care plan. Their space is large, open, and very clean, which helped make a stressful situation feel more comfortable. It was late at night, cold, and raining, and I really appreciated the small touches like offering snacks and coffee. I also witnessed how genuinely caring the staff was with other pets and their owners who came in. Since I'm far from home and our regular vet, they also emailed the records from this visit directly to my vet so I can follow up once we're back home. I'm very grateful for the care they provided.

We recently visited VEG Oceanside after noticing that our dog's ear hematoma had significantly increased in size, covering most of her ear. When I called Wednesday night, the vet tech advised us to come in due to possible pain and discomfort. When we arrived, we waited in a private room for about five hours before being seen. We completely understand that it's an emergency hospital and there were many urgent cases, so the wait itself was not an issue. We were then seen by Dr. Smith, who explained two treatment options: draining the hematoma with a syringe or performing surgery with stitches, which she suggested would reduce the chances of it refilling. Based on her recommendation, we agreed to the surgical route. After the procedure, she chose not to administer a localized steroid due to concerns about our dog's heart and advised us to monitor for swelling, discharge, or other symptoms. Shortly after, our dog began experiencing multiple concerning symptoms, including bloody diarrhea, significant swelling in the ear, and discharge with a foul odor, exactly the warning signs we were told to watch for. I want to emphasize that two other doctors at VEG Oceanside were excellent. They specifically advised us to come back in to have her ear checked and recommended that she receive a steroid injection. We were not attempting to return unnecessarily, we were following the guidance of their own veterinary team. However, when I called on Monday, Dr. Smith got on the phone. After I explained the symptoms in detail and mentioned that we had been advised by her colleagues to return, she repeatedly emphasized that this was an emergency room and directed me to go to our primary care vet instead. She also stressed the long wait times and suggested coming back later when another doctor was available. This was extremely frustrating and concerning. From the start of that conversation, it felt like she did not want to deal with a post-surgical complication from a procedure she had performed, despite clear symptoms and prior instructions from her colleagues to return. Being redirected elsewhere under those circumstances felt dismissive and inappropriate. We ultimately took our dog to another emergency animal hospital, where the veterinarian told us that her ear was infected and that the stitches placed by Dr. Smith were cutting into her ear due to the swelling. They had to remove the stitches because of this. The doctor also administered a localized steroid injection and was not concerned about it negatively affecting our dog's heart, which directly contradicted what we had previously been told. This experience was unacceptable. While we truly appreciate VEG Oceanside and have had great experiences with other doctors there, our interaction with Dr. Smith felt lacking in accountability, urgency, and compassion. Her recommendation led to complications, and her response when we reached out for help made an already stressful situation much worse. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as no pet owner should feel dismissed when following medical advice and dealing with post-surgical complications

My green cheek conure was acting super lethargic, I was calling around and was recommended VEG. When I called I spoke to the Vet and she recommended to come in immediately. I was scared of the prognosis but I knew that I couldn't let my baby suffer. They treated him with the best care. Although he didn't make it I really want to thank the staff for speaking to me so kindly and letting us have our last moments with him. I want to express my gratitude to the staff member who had green hair (so sorry I don't remember your name) she recommended to do a plant burial for him and we did. Thank you so much.

My 11 year old dog has a history of very aggressive MCTs, and Dr. Proulx has helped us put him on a fantastic regimen that has prevented any new tumors from appearing for 15 months, while minimizing dosages for steroids. Dr. Proulx is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and kind. He answers all of my questions thoughtfully, even when I call from home because I'm a nervous dog mom. We just took my dog to the urgent care this weekend, and it was a great experience. I called in advance to say I was coming up, and they were able to see him right away. They had great bedside manner, thoroughly explained our options for next steps, proactively provided cost transparency, and offered follow up appointments. They also helped me prioritize what was needed so I could decide what to schedule with my pcp to save some money - it's clear they aren't trying to take advantage of you! We saw Dr. Vezeleva, and I can't recommend her enough. We brought our cat in around 9 PM on a Sunday because she had sudden weakness, was falling over, and was clearly having trouble using her front leg and part of her body. We repeatedly told them something was seriously wrong. Instead of treating that like the emergency it obviously was, they became fixated on claiming her carrier smelled like marijuana and suggesting possible THC ingestion. That theory made no sense to us, and worse, it distracted from the actual symptoms we were there for. Their own written notes said our cat had "no apparent lameness," normal pupils, and no neurologic abnormalities. That did not reflect what we were seeing at all, and later vet visits found far more serious neurologic issues. We were also told, "yeah don't worry, there is nothing absolutely critical right now." That was completely wrong. We were sent home with reassurance that this would likely self-resolve. Because of that, there was delay before we got her properly evaluated elsewhere. We later found out she had a very serious condition affecting her brain, and vets are now telling us it may be lymphoma or a viral infection. Either way, this was never some minor "maybe she ate something weird" situation. What makes this so disturbing is not just that they were wrong. It is that they were dismissive while being wrong. They minimized obvious red flags, focused on an unlikely explanation, documented the visit in a way that downplayed what was happening, and sent us home with false reassurance when our cat needed real urgency. If your pet is falling over, weak, unable to use a leg properly, or showing neurologic symptoms, do not trust this place to take it seriously. We regret going here, and we regret trusting what we were told.

And despite Chief overcoming all other illnesses and injuries throughout his life, he unfortunately couldn't overcome the only fight that he had with the ravages of cancer. Five weeks after Dr. Jones' operation on him, I had to take Chief to his lifelong health caretakers at Rancho Mesa Animal Hospital to give him peace. ER4PETS is a 10-mile drive from my home. Three miles away from me, however, is a much larger, corporate-run, emergency animal hospital. Although it's closer, I knew its prices would be more expensive than ER4PETS. I only wish I had known about that hospital much sooner. It's a small emergency animal hospital, intimate in its setting. If you're not focused in looking for it while you're driving, you'll pass it. The crowd in the hospital has been sparse during my visits while it had Chief under its care. My arrivals into the hospital have been greeted much more quickly than even groomers' shops that I've taken Chief to. There was even a time when my phone call to the hospital was answered by Dr. Jones herself. She's highly skilled. Thinking back at my conversations with her when I brought her Chief, I now know that her experience saw what I didn't about Chief's condition before she even operated on him: that Chief is at the end of his life. Before the operation from my insistence, I guess I did not truly listen to Dr. Jones' euphemistic, yet gentle suggestion for Chief. I still miss him dearly. We stayed in touch even after puppy graduation and I would text her from time to time to ask questions or stay in touch. I found her on social media and loved her training information. Then when my now 1.5 year old puppy was full grown and became harder to manage we got back in touch and she'd offer suggestions. Finally when she neared the age of 2 I realized I needed professional help Amillie came in and once again explained things even on our first session in a way I could understand and broke down behaviors for me. I actually have 2 giant breed Greater Swiss mountain dogs and she has helped me with training both of them. Mainly frustration reactivity for my younger female "puppy" and then being able to successfully loose leash walk both of them together (2 strong willed and physically strong, with a combined weight of ~200 lb) female dogs. Each time we meet I leave with so much information. She's been great and I only wish we started training them with Amillie when my girls were younger. You won't regret this partnership or Amillie's expertise. Training comes natural to her. It's a gift and that's with me already having had 2 large breed independent dogs before working with her!
