Dr. Lavine euthanized my cat, Cecil on June 18, 2026. He was very compassionate at this most difficult time. Dr. Lavine was sure to fit me into his schedule; and he arrived ahead of time on the same day I called him. He explained the process completely to me; and he did a professional job making Cecil feel as comfortable as possible during his last minutes of life. My only complaint is I had to remind him to send me a receipt for the service. read more

I am not someone who writes reviews, but I felt that I had to. Dr. Lavine is the most kind and compassionate veterinarian I have dealt with. I unfortunately have had to say goodbye to a number of pets over the years, and although the vets I've used before were fine and some were excellent, they do not compare to the kindness and compassion shown by Dr. Lavine. I had an elderly cat that was feral, and taking him to a vet or animal hospital was impossible. I did not want him to be scared when we had to say goodbye. I called Dr. Lavine last night and left a message, and I was called back quickly, and was able to schedule the home appointment for this morning. Believe the other negative review left by Sam. I have had a similar experience. Had a great first visit with this vet. After that, they were completely unresponsive - especially during emergencies. Jeff (i don't think he deserves to be called Dr!) completely ignored my texts, emails and calls during TWO emergencies. I ended up taking my cat to blue pearl bc I simply couldn't get a response from them. Dr. Jeff and Jillian were kind and gentle with my very sick, very aggressive, scared cat who had howled and screamed when a previous House call vet had taken blood, but they were able to do it and also do a urine cystocentesis without almost any reaction from the cat at all. Dr. Jeff went out of his way later on the day of euthanasia to come, when I first cancelled, and then changed my mind afterward. The cat's passing was peaceful and calm. Dr. Lavine met us and our cat for the first time on the day we had to say goodbye. He was the only doctor who answered his phone after hours and was able to get to us by the next morning so our girl didn't have to suffer. He came extremely prepared for the euthanasia, offered the kind, warm and gentle approach we needed and went above and beyond to help us with insurance billing, as well. His prices were lower than any vet in the area, and having a vet visit us at home was a lifesaver, one of our cats is extremely anxious and nearly has a heart attack when taken to a physical vet. We used him for two years, for checkups, and everything was great, he and his assistant were fantastic, lovely people. Unfortunately, in February, our cat had a seizure. After the seizure was over, we called Dr. Levine and made an appointment for the next day. Citing that he felt her kidney was enlarged, he scheduled us for an ultrasound at a vet downtown. After getting the results, he told us "her kidneys look fine, I am just a little confused because I swear one kidney felt much larger than the other." "I have an appointment uptown, and will stop by after to double check." Not only did he not show up, he has ghosted us since, to the point where we got a new doctor. Our new doctor, when sending them medical records, remarked at our cats kidneys - finally seeing the results for myself, she has advanced kidney disease and two atrophic kidneys. Dr. Levine either never looked, or did not want to treat our cats, and fed us lies. At best, this is unprofessional, at worst, this is malpractice. We could have been giving our cat medications, renal diets, hospital treatments this entire year, if Dr. Levine told us the results correctly, and hasnt ghosted us the entire year. Depending on our upcoming vet exam with a new doctor, I will be considering legal action. **Update** Our poor girl has passed away. I would have spent the past 9 months completely differently - I would have started treating her immediately, we could have done something. Now all I have is regrets and a hole in my heart. read more

I can't begin to explain how grateful I am for Dr. Levine. My beloved cat Stanley was suddenly diagnosed with congestive heart failure, given only a few weeks left to live. It was soul-crushing, to say the least, but I kept him comfortable during the last few weeks of his life. When the time came that I had to put him down, I called Dr. Levine to come to my house to do it. He was kind, patient, compassionate, and helped me through the worst moment of my entire life. He returned Stanley's ashes rather quickly (and was very responsive while I was anxiously following up with him on the process). He also provided paw prints and a beautiful care package, including grief support systems. While this is the darkest time in my entire life, I'm thankful that someone like Dr. Levine took care of my sweet boy in the last moments of his life, and even afterwards. Had a at home visit for my dog. The two vets are friendly but unable to perform any test, did not have any shots / medicine with them. I do have a difficult dog, but that does not justify $200 visit. The main vet said he will contact me afterwards regarding vaccination and further arrangements. NONE. I thought they might be busy and I sent a text to follow up. NO RESPONSE. Vetcierge warning: I thought it important to share my experience to help others avoid what happened to me. Vetcierge is Dr. Jeff Lavine who comes to your home in the NYC area. He's basically a one man show and comes with a vet tech. He seems like a good vet and did a good job with my cat, but he never sent me results of his blood test and paw scraping sample that I paid for, let alone a receipt for services. It's been over a month now. I sent him two emails and text, to which he never responded. I left him a voicemail, to which he finally sent a text back saying he would call and that he only just saw my text and that it was uncharacteristic to not follow up and that he'll check his records. He never called or emailed back. My friend who used him said he seemed good, but also had to hound him for follow up. I really need to know what my cat's kidney values are from the blood test for my records, as he has kidney issues. I paid Lavine / Vetcierge with Venmo on the spot. If he lost or forgot to send the samples in, it would be helpful for me to know as he could at least refund the money for those tests. At this point, I guess I have no choice but to dispute the charge. I hope this is helpful for others to know. read more

I have a 5 1/2 year old Chi & treat her like a child. I only want the best for her but finding a vet that is affordable & cares for the animals is some what rare. We called Dr. Lavine because we knew our dog's time had come and wanted him to be put to sleep in his own bed in his own space. The first time I spoke with Dr. Lavine, he spent 20 minutes, maybe more on the phone with me asking all sorts of questions and giving advise. I was amazed since he was not our usual vet. I put off the first appt. and then called again 6 weeks later right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was not sure if he would even come to our apt. during this time, but he agreed without hesitation. Dr. Lavine arrived, with his assistant Clio and both were the most kind, compassionate, respectful people I have met in a long time. Dr. Lavine is certainly someone I will always refer any dog owner to. I needed someone I can trust and other veterinarian clinic reviews are so inconsistent- but BELIEVE me that Dr. Lavine genuinely cares for pets despite however busy he was that day. I have had 2 emergency situations with my beloved maltese dog and Dr. Lavine has been so caring and committed to helping me both times even as I called under an emergency need in his busy day. The first time was during quarantine and my dog had a tick embedded in his lower eyelid. Dr. Lavine was committed to finding a time slot in his already busy day to drop by and remove the tick as well as give a thorough examination while we met outside (COVID quarantine). He thoroughly answered all my questions and concerns and did a full exam of my dog to ensure there was no other ticks on him. The second time my dog had injured his back and was in pain. I called Dr. Lavine again as my local vet was so backed up for days. Dr. Lavine helped me assess treatment priorities, then booked an emergency appointment with Pure Paws for me that same day and I was able to get my dog the treatment and medicine needed. How does Dr. Jeff only have 8 reviews?! Well - maybe I'll just call myself lucky and say that word hasn't gotten out yet! Amazing vet at great rates and excellent service. Dr. Jeff has been treating my cavvy since she came home at the ripe, young age of 11 weeks! She is now almost a year and half and I'm so happy with Dr. Jeff and Clio (his vet tech). Clio is incredibly sweet and amazing with my dog. Initially, I wasn't sure if my dog would get the same care with an in-home vet versus an office-vet because they wouldn't have immediate access to medical equipment, etc. But since then, any concerns I had have been alleviated as she gets incredible care and attention from him. I initially expressed my concerns about in-home vet care to him and he indicated that he has a relationship with two of the best animal hospitals in the city in case she needs care that can only be done in a clinic. So, I decided to just give it a try since she only needed her basic puppy shots and exam, and there wasn't much that could go wrong. And I'm glad that I did. He can do almost anything routine that can be done in a vet's office -- without the stress: bloodwork, shots, stool collection and testing, dispensation of prescription medications, including heartworm and flea/tick monthly meds. But, if there is something that needs an in-office visit -- ie surgery, teeth cleaning, x-rays, MRI, etc., you arrange with the hospital, say you are his patient, and you make an appointment. I confirmed this when I was looking to get my cavvy spayed, but didn't want to pay a small fortune (and preferred not to wait for hours in the cold for the ASPCA truck -- which I ended up doing anyway). I called one of the clinics he works with and told them he was my dog's vet, and they immediately agreed that they have a relationship with him and didn't hesitate to help me get info on the spay procedure and cost, etc. He is always responsive via email or phone if my gal has a sudden tummy issue or isn't feeling well. Gives advice on food, vitamins, and training, and always, always follows up to find out how she is doing, not to mention all the doggie hugs and kisses he gives her, which she loves. read more

There is no reason for a vet visit to be traumatic, and you can't ask for more than home visits with someone who has a great working knowledge of animal behavior. I first met Dr. Jeff when he was at St. Mark's in the East Village, which is an excellent animal hospital. When my small dog was attacked, suffering serious neck wounds, he saved the day and I couldn't have been more grateful. I was thrilled when I learned that he'd be going out on his own and would be making house calls. Pets get much better treatment because able to observe them in home environment and with them walking around and interacting as opposed to terrified on a steel table after a harrowing subway ride. He uses good judgment, and responds to emails about my concerns readily. At first I was concerned that he provided service at concierge prices, but when I asked him about it, he explained that the service was concierge-- stellar-- but that the prices were reasonable. And they have been. Our 22lb Pomeranian, a rescue, was anxious at first, but with gentle holding, and treats, and his gentle voice and touch, Jeremy has come around. We've used Dr. Lavine as a vet since we got Jeremy, over one year ago. He is our go to person for questions with dog health, training, and behavior, and he has a team of others whom he recommends. Dr. Lavine and his assistant, Cleo, came to see my senior dog, Stitch, earlier this week, and they worked wonders! In his old age, Stitch has become fearful and next to impossible to examine. They were able to check his heart and lungs, eyes and ears, and his skeletal system (for possible arthritis pain). Dr. Lavine was even able to check Stitch's teeth which has always been virtually impossible. They also drew blood for lab tests and cut Stitch's nails! Stitch did not seem traumatized at all - the rest of the day he was in good spirits! I believe he felt very safe and secure during the visit, because he was able to be in his own home, on his own sofa, with his own blanket. Dr. Lavine spent quite a bit of time with us, and answered my endless questions very fully and patiently. He gave me hope that there are a number of things that we can do to make Stitch's senior years be happy and comfortable, not scary and painful. He followed up very quickly with preliminary lab results, and called a day or 2 later to discuss a treatment plan and recommendations. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Dr. Lavine sent for Stitch's medical records from his cardiologist before the visit, so he had his medical history in hand when he arrived for our appointment! We recently adopted a 5 year old Yorkie, Winnie, who has had some difficulty adjusting to NYC. Dr. Lavine's responsivity, medical and behavioral knowledge, and dedication to his clients have made the whole process much easier for our entire family. When Winnie had some acute onset GI issues, I contacted him at 7:00pm on a Friday night and he dropped off the medication we needed within the hour. He has also referred us to an excellent behaviorist and has been very involved in her overall treatment plan, recommending stimulating toys and adjunct supplements. My furry, furry mouser is a healthy, indoor 13-year old Cat. I've raised her since kittenhood, and I care about her well-being. Despite being healthy, my girlfriend insisted I "take her to the Vet" for a checkup because older cats can sometimes get diabetes or other ailments, and it's best to catch them early. But Mouser is scared of going to the Vet, so I had the Vet come here. Dr. Jeff was on time, caring and knowledgeable. We took bloodwork, urine, and a physical examination - results arrived the following day, and I'm off the hook with my girlfriend. Dr. Jeff will arrive at your place on-time with a friendly technician, a suitcase containing his supplies, and is gentle and thorough.
