We stopped in before the Brandon Lake concert. It was super busy so we opted to eat outside. The atmosphere was quaint but loud inside due to how busy it was. Our waitress was super personable and patient with us. The BLT pizza was a bit bland. There wasn't a lot to go on. The tomatoes seemed fresh. The Server was nice, but the service was really slow. I ordered the margarita pizza with Prosciutto for an additional charge. It wasn't the best pizza i've ever had, but not the worst. Oh my how have I ever not been to Vespa Pizza on Daniel Island?! It's a fabulous spot, with outdoor indoor casual dining. The restaurant is beautiful with amazing cheerful helpful staff. They have a daily Special's menu along with the regular menu. The pizza, salads and appetizers that we had were delicious. All the pizzas are made in house and that includes the beautiful crispy crust baked, in a wood fired oven. Delicious. All the dishes were oozing with flavor & freshness. I decided to eat at this place after reading reviews of other pizza joints, and this was in walking distance. The reviews had me worried, but again it was the closest walking distance. We ordered the Caprese salad, black and blue salad and that's night special pizza. The caprice he salad came out first and it was just OK. The tomatoes were not fresh and bland, and the mozzarella cheese was kinda stiff. It was definitely bulk bought cheese out of a package. Like many previous reviews, the black and blue salad looked good, but was warm. I don't know what it is with this place serving warm salads. The pizza was good. I definitely ate half of it and took the other half home for lunch the next day. Only downside to the pizza was the center was kinda soggy. It took the staff a little bit to take our drink orders, but she made up with it with her attitude. Very happy and spirited. The outside patio area where we sat, could use a little bit of re-decorating. They have some bar trailer out there that needs to be put up when not in use. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT RIPS OFF THEIR CUSTOMERS. Can't rate the food because I never go to! I ordered to-go food: Seafood pasta. The container was a sandwich container - clam shell design where only the bottom half held the food. In this case the bottom was sauce. During my drive, the sauce leaked out the side and then the lid popped off and spilled everywhere. So now I am without food and a trashed car that smells of pasta sauce. Now, I call Vespa and asked for a manager. I explained that I was out a $20 dish and no lunch. I had spent a total of $40 on takeout for lunch and her/managers only response was that she "would tell the kitchen." Result: no food, out $40, have to clean my car all because Vespa does not recognize that their to-go packaging for liquid dishes is inefficient AND they had no inkling of offering a credit. Love the atmosphere, service, and fresh food here. Even before Covid the outdoor patio was our favorite spot here. And both the regular brick oven pizza and the gluten-free options are good here. My family and I arrived and were seated in the lovely courtyard. We were provided menus and waters but no one ever came to even take our drink order. We arrived at 6:50pm and decided to leave at 7:20pm. Two other parties arrived, were seated, and orders taken after we were seated. Our son, an Air Force officer that recently was stationed in the area (and lives on Daniel Island) was excited to take us to Vespa Pizza. There are *five* restaurants where one can get pizza on Daniel Island-- Orlando's, LIDI, New Realm, Domino's and Vespa. Of those two, Vespa and Orlando's make the best pizzas. If you want pizza, don't bother with the other three. The interesting thing is that though both Vespa and Orlando's are both pizza places at their heart, they're entirely different cuisines, and don't really compete in my book. Vespa is high end neopolitan pizza. Orlando's is the kind of pizza you buy to eat in front of the TV while you watch the big game. Vespa is a restaurant and Orlando's is a pizza joint if that makes sense. And beyond pizza, Vespa has a lot to offer. The French fries at Vespa are amazing. Their soups and salads are fantastic. Their Mussels Diavolo is remarkable. I take my mom here weekly. We've yet to have bad service or a bad meal. It's great to get a chance to catch up with her and know that we'll eat well and have great service -- usually out on their patio, which is lovely. One of the things I appreciate most about Vespa is the size and selection of salads! I always like a little salad to balance out my pizza. My go-to is the beet and goat cheese salad, while my husband always gets the black and bleu. The half-sized salads are a very generous portion and we usually end up with leftovers. I enjoy the food and the seating areas both indoor and outdoor here. The pies are perfect size in my opinion for one person. It is just enough to get you full but not too much that you're over stuffed after eating the whole thing (unless you ordered some appetizers). The pizza is doughy and the sauce and toppings are also portioned appropriately and taste fresh. They also have a gluten free crust for my gluten free friends. The rigatoni with bolognese is also pretty good but had some sort of aftertaste that I wasn't sure if I liked or not. I like the atmosphere and the memorabilia they have hanging on the walls as a testament to their namesake Vespa. Well..................I was hoping to improve my review from 5 years ago, but I'm not. This place on paper is awesome. Looks good, smells good, location is good, service is good. But small swings and misses keep me from loving this place. I think that just a few tweaks and it could be a good place. I'm sure they make money and the owner is probably loaded. I'm happy for them and maybe they are really good people. Problems this time......well, we got the margarita pizza. Thought it was a layup. But it wasn't, the sauce tasted like they used salt instead of sugar. The dough was perfect then I ate a bite of the cheap cheese and salty tomato sauce. This was my official second time eating here. I was uncertain if it was good or what. Heard good things, just never actually wanted to come. Well today I decided to go. I was impressed. The prices of stuff were a little high, but what do you expect when it's on Daniel island. I got the calzone of the day and there was so much goodness in every bit I forget what was on it. I've been to Vespa Pizzeria quite a few times and have always enjoyed their unique wood fired pizzas. You can really taste the fire from the wood in the dough; it's so yummy. My favorite pizzas here include the Bianca white pie with Fresh Mozzarella, Fontina, Grana Padano, Garlic, Olive Oil, and Oregano or just a plain old Pepperoni Pizza. And if I'm with someone I'll usually get an appetizer of their Fried Risotto Balls stuffed with risotto, mozzarella, and prosciutto served with marinara. I've also had some very good tomato soup here and salad. Service has always been great here. Just don't get in a hurry; good food takes time to prepare. read more

Had another fabulous experience at Vespa Pizza! It started with the special soup, French onion! Followed up by the special salad with roasted pears, almonds, etc topped with a honey vinaigrette! The special pasta was so flavorful, with Italian sausage, broccoli and creamy cheese! Ended it with the zeppolis with vanilla sauce! My friend had my favorite sausage, bacon and pepperoni pizza. Everything was delicious, as usual, and the service was awesome! Our waitress was on top of things, making suggestions, bringing out all the courses as requested and offering all that was good! I can see why - neither the chicken nor the broccoli overwhelmed the subtle flavor of the cheese. Thin crust and round shaped, cut into triangles. Wood baked, it had some blackened bits out by the edges but was otherwise excellent. One pie is enough for one person, but it was too much that I wasn't able to consider a dessert. I have just moved to Daniel Island and I took my mom to Vespa Pizza as we were craving Italian. The service was so fantastic. We were asked right away where we wanted to be seated and as one of the staff cleaned the table and we waited, we were asked by two others if we needed to be seated. Our water glasses were filled right away, orders taken within a quick about of time and food delivered hot and fresh. I asked for an extra plate as my mom and I wanted to split the pasta and they split it for us and brought it out on two separate plates, both which looked like a full serving size to me! There was plenty of chicken in our pasta and the pizza was full of flavour and authentic tasting. We definitely had plenty of leftovers. For the price you pay you get exceptional value and quality.
