The communication that had been so key early on had faded, and I honestly didn't know if we were on the schedule or had been completely punted. I had to follow up to ensure things were on track. It took multiple weeks to have someone out. I think it's because of the frequent rains throwing off the schedule, but again it felt my messages were sort of going to a void. They gave me about an hours notice when someone was coming out, and he did a really nice job. I was very surprised when I got the bill and it was $125 more than it's ever been in the past. Especially surprising because the email thread we had been going back and forth in had our prior invoice at $275, not at $400. When I asked what was up they cited that it took their employee three hours and my gutters were more clogged than before. To me, nothing has really changed, if anything we have had more trees trimmed back, and more importantly, I didn't know that would affect the cost so dramatically. It had been under a year and half since I last had them out. Had I known, I absolutely would've gone with a more reasonable option. I also felt like their response was a bit off-putting, and I'm surprised because again we've hired them at least three times and I've had such positive interactions up until now. I'll be looking elsewhere moving forward; they do a nice job, and are a professional enough company, but the lack of customer service and shockingly high bill will have me finding a new go-to for my annual gutter cleanings.

Cost was $100. NOTE: Two other roofers wanted $400 to fix the problem!!! Fast forward to 05.2025. I noticed several black spots up high on my ceiling. Matt came out to check the spots. I wondered if it was mold...It was also cleaning day. It was determined by a long handled duster, that the black spots were just dust! Matt said "No charge" !!! He came out, reviewed the issue, ascertained that the leak was likely due to flashing issues around vent pipes, and said he would send out his best worker to fix the problem the following week. After one additional follow up call (the following week turned into a week and a half), the roofer came out and fixed the problem. (We hope.) I'm still not impressed with how long it took to get in touch with Gentry. Their answering service has very nice people working for it, but they're basically useless when it comes to scheduling. They need to work on that. I also didn't enjoy having to get the former contractor involved. I'm not interested in working with them again, and every time I contact them for any reason, they want to know when we're going to be updating our kitchen. ::sigh:: But, hopefully, our roof has been fixed. Original review: Gentry installed our new DaVinci Bellaforte Shake 50 yr tiles back in 2012. Great product, seemingly great company...we were very happy with their work and product. However, here we are in 2017, and we have a leak. We discovered it a couple of weeks ago after several rounds of heavy rain in the Kansas City area in early/mid August. I contacted Gentry immediately, the day we discovered the leak, which was Tuesday, August 22nd. I left a message with their delightful receptionist, Edna, and waited to hear back. Friday, August 25th, I followed up with a phone call to John Howard's cell number that I have, and had to leave another message. I still hadn't heard back by Tuesday, Aug 29th, so I contacted Edna at the office again. She took my information, said she would make a note that this was my 2nd time calling (I told her technically it was the 3rd, since I'd left a message on John's cell the previous Friday), and apologized for the delay in someone getting back to me. It is now Saturday, Sept 9th. I left another message with what sounded like an answering service on Weds, Sep 6th, and also tried reaching John again via his cell phone on Thursday, Sep 7th, hoping that due to the earlier hour, I might be able to catch him before he got busy during the day. Friday, I left another message with the service, who was apologetic again about my lack of response, but...still no call back. We love our new roof, and the only thing we would do differently is to install clips to help with ice and snow sliding issues at the time of the install of the roof. (Although, to be honest, I don't know if the issue is with the type of product used, or the installation, or what, so maybe I don't love our roof? ::sigh:: ) But at this time, I cannot recommend Gentry Roofing, until I hear back from one of their representatives who can help us with the leak in our roof. I'm worried that, since our 5 year warranty on the "workmanship" is about to expire in October, I'm being ignored due to that. (p.s. my husband and a contractor that we were working with at the time hired Gentry without doing any background checking on them. Their webpage has all of 1 former client "testimonial" on it, and there are literally NO REVIEWS anywhere on the internet about the company. They aren't a member of the BBB, so that's not a route that can be taken to file complaints. It's concerning. BUT my problems began when my insurance agency deemed my roof "UNACCEPTABLE." Here are some names to remember and steer clear of: Brock Steinmetz (Owner), TJ Chatham (guy who actually did the roof), and Bailey Scott (office manager). At first, TJ was very helpful about "getting this fixed" because he'd never been in this situation before. And then, when I tried to ACTUALLY get this fixed and they ALL WENT SILENT, including the owner, he would never call or email me back, nor the insurance agent back. We BOTH tried to contact them and received crickets. I've tried to contact them 16 times since January 10th, and they've responded with 2 phone calls to me; one from Brock himself (a voicemail) saying he's at my house "looking at the roof now and I'm going to get this taken care of" and another from Bailey who said "I'm sorry there's been miscommunication and I thought they called you back but your file is open and on Brock's desk so he will give you a call when he gets back". Here is my phone log to TJ, Brock AND Bailey: Jan 10, Jan 12, Jan 17, Jan 18, Jan 22, Jan 23, Jan 24, Jan 30, Feb 1, Feb 2, Feb 5, Feb 13. I have never spoken with the owner of this company directly. Add on a handful more calls from my insurance agency and I'm sure we'd be pushing ~25 phone calls. Not to mention any of the follow-up emails sent after a voicemail was left. I've kept all my call logs, emails, and text messages. Here's the problem: insurance deemed my roof "UNACCEPTABLE" because it's wavy. I worked with insurance to get all the documentation they needed and even had a time set up for another inspector to meet them at the house. THEY DIDN'T RETURN MY PHONE CALLS and left me high & dry. Moral of the story is - Columbia Exteriors and Brock Steinmetz play BAD BUSINESS. They take your money and run, leaving you with a roof that can't be fully insured. The worst part is I did my homework; it took me 5 months to find a roofer that I felt like was the right fit; I made sure to double and triple check the contract/payment terms/timeline; I even made sure that I paid AFTER the work was complete. How would anybody know that a professional would do work like this? News is, you wouldn't unless you were a roofer and/or an inspector with the eye and knowledge to understand what is "good" and what is "BAD" in terms of completeness. Now I'm stuck with a BAD ROOF.
