Maybe not surprising in a state like Maine where ways to make a living especially the further north you go are scarce other than fishing and the tourist industry. We stopped in to see what it was like. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly. Everyone is asked to show ID, no exceptions. The space is huge and was very open, airy, and nicely appointed with tall ceilings. One is led into second larger room which on the day of our visit was staffed by two young women. They seemed to be knowledgeable about the range of their products which included buds of marijuana of all kinds to "gummy" edibles of cannabis in varying strengths. They were able to answer questions about "medicinal" uses for their products. I can't speak to the price points and whether they are reasonable or not but a tin of edibles contains 10 pieces (come in variety of flavors!) each containing 5 milligrams of THC each. Those tins cost $19.00 a piece. According to the women in the shop, they have many customers who come in looking for physical pain relief, relief from anxiety symptoms and sleep problems. I am personally not a user of marijuana but having grown up during an era which not only totally banned its use but jailed people for having even modest of amounts, I am pleased to see its decriminalization. I think we still have much to learn about potential benefits from this plant.

I went into Johnson's Sporting Goods in Rockland ME yesterday, dressed well, speaking clearly and stating what I wanted, asking if they had any small guns just for protection. I wasn't just browsing. I was there to buy if they had one that would be a good fit for my needs. They didn't answer my question. The man at the counter when you first walk in, asked me if I'd ever handled a gun before. I have not, just held one that was not loaded. He asked if I ever took a class before-- How could I have taken a class but not used a gun? I was still polite but I've also been around enough to know something was wrong and this form of questioning was not going to end well. He then told me he would not sell me a gun. He was not "comfortable" doing that. He told me I had to take the classes first, which I didn't know was some kind of law or rule and not one person has ever told me this was a requirement. You can't tell me that every single person who bought a small gun there took classes first. I don't believe that. I asked if he could at least start the background check and he also refused. Because I am in a minority and have dealt with discrimination for a great many years, in many forms, I know it when I hear it. I said nothing in response , just turned and walked out. When I got home I called Liberty Tree Arms and asked if there was a rule or even a law about not selling a gun to someone who hasn't taken the classes yet and he said there is no such law and to come in and he'd help me any time. So you're thinking- too bad for me. They have the right to refuse a sale. But think about this- I AM an old woman. How would you feel if your grandmother went to this business and asked for help because she felt she needed to have a form of protection and they refused? What if they treated someone you love this way? You might be a little angry if this happened to someone in your family. My recommendation is not to waste your time dealing with Johnson's Sporting Goods, especially if you are an elderly woman or in any minority. These are clues I have that this may have been motivated by discrimination. It was not stated to my face. I was taught to do business locally whenever possible. As a retired teacher, local businesses and residents paid my salary, I was taught the right thing to do was to put food back on their table. I tried to do just that here. I will never return to that business and cannot recommend them because of my experience. If it was possible to give them negative stars, I would have. ***This is an edit to what I wrote yesterday. After reading my review I was contacted by a young lady I know who told me a family member of hers bought a gun there last month. She had not taken the classes. She's much younger than I am and to be honest, a very pretty lady. She went in shopping with a man. We had the same needs.- we wanted a small gun for protection. We are both female.
