No cavities and no work needed. I had cracked a tooth prior which I knew about but didn't think it was serious. Well apparently it was and caused a small cavity. Dr Castanaro fixed my tooth up....despite me acting like a huge baby when he needed to numb me. He worked quickly and was gentle. Was funny and kept me entertained while he worked. He uses the best and latest dental technology and a perk is that he is also a cool guy! His dental assistants also help him and are very nice and do the work right. Maureen & Stephanie at the front desk are gems and will always work with you to schedule an appointment at a time that works best for you and help in understanding insurance billing. They rock and are a pleasure to speak with. The Bronx office was hot, poorly ventilated, and unsafe for my father who can not tolerate heat and nearly passed out. Even worse, the Bronx location had no record of his previous treatment and told us he had to start all over. This shows a complete lack of professionalism, care, and coordination. The experience was traumatic for my father and extremely frustrating for me. I would not recommend this practice to anyone, especially not for elderly or vulnerable patients.

This review is being submitted by my husband John DeSimone…read more Several weeks ago, a cap fell off of one of my front top teeth. As i was in Yonkers and my primary dentist is in Florida. I went to Yonkers Avenue Dental. i had used them before (see his positive review of two years ago. Boy, have things changed! A young female dentist proceeded to cement the cap back on with minimal preparation. She did not hesitate to tell me that this was her last day on the job since she was moving to Puerto Rico (this should have been a clue). Four days later, while brushing my teeth, the cap fell off in the sink. I called to make another appointment, explaining the situation. They were very unsympathetic and I had to wait 4 days for an appointment. While in the waiting room, I spoke to the office manager to ensure that I would not be rebilled. She very agressvely told me that the work is NOT GUARANTEED, I would be rebilled and there were no other options. My options were limited, so I waited and saw a different dentist. He informed me that he was a partner in the practice. Again, with very little preparation, he reattached the tooth. He confirmed that the work is NOT GUARANTEED and was I forced to pay a second fee. I was shocked, when 5 days later, again while brushing my teeth, the cap fell out again. I have since returned to Florida. My regular dentist who did not know the identity of who I saw in Yonkers was very negative on the work that was performed. He prepared the same cap and the abutment properly, which was very different and much more thorough than what they did in Yonkers Dental, and reattached the cap.He said they never even cleaned the old cement out of the cap. It has been several weeks and the cap is still firmly attached. Needless to say, I will NEVER, NOT EVER be returning to Yonkers Avenue Dental.

I went in because of a cracked tooth. the nurse performed a full mouth X Ray, even though I did not request one. She said it was procedure. Fine. Then when the doctor came in, he told me that in that X ray he saw there were other cavities but he refused to give me any more details because I did not request a comprehensive exam. Then what was the point of the full mouth X Ray if you're not going to give me the results of it? Finally, we come back around to the cracked teeth I actually came in for, he told me it would cost over eight hundred dollars for three fillings. I refused treatment and went to another dentist. This other dentist not only gave me the full results of my X Ray and a proper treatment plan, which was more in depth and more likely to actually resolve my issues than just the fillings Smiling Dentist were going to give me, but it was significantly cheaper. Where Smiling Dentist was going to charge me nearly a thousand dollars for three fillings, the other dentist charged six hundred dollars for seven fillings. Overall, a terrible experience and I will not be revisiting ever again.

Several times I had to tell her the suction wasn't set right as I was consistently gagging from the excessive saliva in my mouth, as well as getting splashed in my face. Her response, the water pressure was too high. When polishing my teeth, she caught my hair in the machine and I had to pull it to make her stop. Each time I expressed my concerns she responded rudely, even told me I have a problem. The dentist was polite and expressed his apologies. My mouth still hurts a day later. I know discomfort from cleaning is normal, however I should not feel pain.

If done correctly I would have had an out of pocket charge of less than $25. Since they are in the plan the insurance company sends them the reimbursement check. Im still waiting for the dentist to remit me $72 I was overcharged. I must say if it wasnt for this incident I was ready to switch from my current dentist. I did find Dr Shih to be a good dentist and her assistants were very professional. Unfortunately, by having me pay out of pocket despite taking my insurance has made me rethink the change. After three months Im still waiting to be reimbursed. ( the insurance company confirmed she got their check)

She is knowledgable explained the treatment plan clearly and answered our questions before they started. She treated my husband and myself. We had a several procedures done. She made sure we were numb and felt no pain. The office and treatment rooms were clean. As they treated me they continuously cleaned and sanitized everything. This was a pleasant experience. The dental staff was very nice and seemed knowledgeable. When I asked for a copy of X-rays for a second opinion, I couldn't get anyone on the phone. I sent 2-3 emails, where I also received no response. Finally , they asked me to send a Hippa form, which I did within an hour. Still no response. When I threatened to report them to better business bureau, they said go ahead and said they are allowed 30 days. It's been over 2 weeks now. Previous dentists helped with the same request same day. In the meantime, I am not able to get my second opinion. Do not come to this place. I rarely give bad reviews. This is the 2nd bad review I've given in my life.
