It had been a while since we've had Ethiopian food. We saw there was this spot in downtown Manassas and decided to check it out. At first we were a bit worried as it was 6:30pm on a Friday and the place was empty. Glad we didn't let that stop us from staying. The place has a very relaxing vibe and almost felt like you were in someone's home. The menu is smaller than most Ethiopian restaurants I've been to, but still had most of the traditional dishes. We ordered the trio combo (Beg Wot, Doro Wot, Tibs). We were able to add a fourth which meant the portions were a bit smaller. Our fourth item was the Tuna Kitfo. I wasn't a huge fan of the kitfo, because I love the traditional beef version. However, my friend loved it. I enjoyed all the other items. It really did give me authentic Ethiopian vibes. I love Ethiopian food and I've had homeade before. I'm not sure if it was because I wasn't Ethiopian, they thought maybe I wouldn't know the difference. My enjera was dry and there was mold on it, which absolutely turned my stomach and one of the dishes that I got smelled sour. I came for an early dinner, it was quite the aroma was great I did ask what it was but it didn't bother me. The Chef Vera was on hand and went over the menu with me. I ordered the ginger turmeric tea, and Doro Wot Chicken my meal was very good this is the second time I ate Ethiopia food. Attentive staff. Very lively environment, while everyone is at their respective tables, the restaurant feels like big large family attending supper in someone's home. The food is delicious and fresh. Portions are generous and service is excellent. We have been here several times and never had a bad experience. Until now. The dining area is very clean, restrooms are beautiful, staff and other customers are so kind and welcoming. We had Beg wat (lamb) which was incredibly tender, full of flavor, and the vegan platter which was perfect. We also had the creamy chicken pasta, a huge portion that was amazing! So why not a 5 star review? Because the restaurant was filled with smoke. Like, so much smoke you could track the air currents. It dissipated within 20 minutes after the other table finished their coffee (incense is part of Ethiopian coffee service, it's cultural) but by then I had a massive headache. We were asked if the incense was ok....after the restaurant was full of smoke. As 3 white people in a room full of Ethiopian customers, I felt it would be a bad look to object, and probably insulting. I'm not even sure it's legal to burn incense in a restaurant because of second hand smoke regulation. I'll be back again in the spring because the food is spectacular, but I will be eating outside. Delicious food. I was in Manassas looking for a vegetarian option, and this place delivered beautifully. As I walked through the door of this establishment, the smell was divine. The owner greeted us with a smile, and was very friendly. We decided to get to go orders since we had other appointments in the area. I ordered the Beyaynetu without mushrooms and vegetable sambosas. All very good. I loved the gomen and spicy lentils. The sambosas were nice and flaky with a little bit of spice. They tasted even better when they got cold. The restaurant is decorated with beautiful colors and a lot of space for dining in. We will make sure we have enough time to eat in next time as I really liked the atmosphere of this place. A treat on a cold and rainy day. The early Father's Day lunch with my eldest daughter. Ambiance was both elegant and restful. Service by Vera was super friendly and attentive. Such a cute little spot in Manassas. I sat at a small, round table, decorated with money from Kenya, Ethiopia and Portugal, among other places. The server was really cool, one of the son's in the family, in town to run the store while, Vera, who must be as lovely as her beef is tender, is away. He recommended the Ginger Boost tea, their specialty and I loved it! I got the lunch portion of the Siga Alicha, a mildly seasoned dish of beef, ginger, garlic and onions. I chose the Injera as my side though you may order it with rice or quinoa if you prefer. That comes with 2 sides, so It was just the right amount for a small eater like me! We had lunch at Vera's Kitchen a few days ago and we had an amazing time. We ordered the soups - lentil soup and the soup of the day, vegetable sambusas, rainbow wrap, and tibs. Everything was delicious - especially the vegetable sambusas and tibs. The Tibs are really flavorful and tender with injera and/or rice. We came in for my best friends brothers birthday! Vera was the kindest, sweetest, and most accommodating woman we have met in a long time. The food was flavorful and wonderfully made. You could tell she really cared about the food she makes and the people that come in. We had the lamb over quinoa (amazing) and two of the samplers for 1 (EPIC!) She even lowered the lights and brought out a slice of cake with a candle to sing happy birthday to him and then played it over the music! In the space that was formerly Air Fare Cafe. Open in the recent 2 weeks. I stopped in for lunch on the patio today, What a beautiful Spring day and not to be wasted, I had to sit outside. I talked to the owner, Eddie who is from Ethiopia and we talked about the harrar region and the notoriety for coffee. I was surprised when he said '"we have some", wow! They serve breakfast lunch and dinner and are open 7 days a week. Eddie recommend their chicken panini as a lunch special. It was an excellent choice, very tasty, great fresh ingredients. This is fantastic Ethiopian food. I've driven by many times and finally stopped in to get the beyaynetu vegetable platter with injera. It's a small little cafe right off the edge of Old Town, so a convenient location for such authentic Ethiopian. The injera is fresh and made in house. Each side was delicious and I was happy about the variety provided. I do wish I had an additional injera on the side so next time I will make sure to ask for that. read more

Cute little spot! It was a nice day out, so we decided to eat outside. Our server was very friendly and very attentive. He said it had been open for a little over a year! My husband and I went on a Sunday around 2 pm. When we arrived there was no other customers there. Inside the restaurant felt warm and muggy, so we opted to sit outside which was a much better idea. The water was infused with cucumbers, lemon and mint (delicious!), the injira was cut a little thicker and felt firmer than another Ethiopian restaurant we go to (Tabor). The tibs were seasoned well and tasted great! And the sides-chickpeas, cabbage, mushrooms, etc. were very yummy. I wish there was more variety of fresh veggie sides on our dish. Other Ethiopian restaurants will have freshly cut mix of beets, tomatoes, carrots and other things. Those would've made an awesome palette cleanser, cus it's a little cold & fresh ya know? Overall, not a bad spot! This place is open on the weekends and it's located next to a winery in Old Town Manassas-a short little walk away from the train tracks. Try it out! read more
