I love Vera's Burger Shack. I always grab a basket of fries here (make sure you grab vinegar to drench the fries in and mayo for dipping) This time the fam and I decided to eat in. It was nice today and not too busy. Tons of the tables in the middle of the butchery to sit at. Service was pretty quick too! The hubs ended up grabbing so prepared items to take home, and some fresh sliced ham. Its not cheap, but a nice treat once in a while. read more

I had never been in here before, but had heard many good things about it. I don't often eat burgers, but - Wow! - That was the best burger I have ever had! Ever!! The staff was attentive and very accommodating, and allowed me to change my order slightly after paying for it (I asked to add pickle slices) (which they did at no extra charge, I might add!) They were well organized, and efficient - all the while, with everyone wearing face masks thanks to COVID. There was a long lineup, which moved swiftly. Note: Vera's shares store space with The Butchery. Obviously they get their meat next door; good advertising for each other!! Five stars for being very impressive for this visit! We have been enjoying food from Vera's for awhile. The burgers are big and juicy. This day I tried the smoked meat combo. A large tasty serving of meat with the sandwich with just the right amount of mustard. The coleslaw was very good and the fries great. Service is always friendly and they are patient. This burger joint - tucked inside of The Butchery - has fabulous burgers! Decor is comfortable with natural tone wood tables. Barn board is incorporates in the decor. Very relaxed feel. Staff were pleasant and enthusiastic about the food. They do have more than just burgers but it is all meat focused. Probably not a place for?vegetarians..though there are always the fries to eat. My one complaint was that with about 20 tables I couldn't find a clean one. Disappointing. Hoping this was a one off situation and next time we have a different experience in this area. Went for the first time yesterday. Ordered burgers, onion rings, and sweet potato fries. Burgers are amazing! Condiments nicely accented the burger. Went to Vera's today to try it out and compare Vera's vs Harvey's Vera's is ocated inside The Butchery in Bell's Corners, Ottawa At Vera'sI inquired and was told they do not serve coffee (which I like with my burger), so back out to Tim Horton's and back to Vera's. Ordered: Regular Hamburger with toppings $ 8.90 Small Fries 3.50 Tax HST 5% .62 HSFD .99 = 1.61 (13%) Total $14.01 without drink If Soft Drink wished $2.25 + tax (1.13%) = $2.54 but free refills. Total $16.66 Observations: I noticed my bun with the topping was left open out on prep counter until burger made, so was cun pleasantly cool when bitten into. Fries tasted like plain frozen fries that have been cooked (Harvey's are fresh). Portion far,far too large for one person. Burger-decent size (about the same as Angus at Harveys'), good taste. Seating area-attractive but cool as outside doors to The Butchery, next to the eating area, are constantly being opened. Vera's Burger Shack is located inside the Butchery on Robertson Road. My friends had the hotdog which had a beautiful design cut into the wiener. See pic. It was far too nice to cover in condiments but the heathens did so anyway. But it wasn't all about looks, the dogs were delicious! The fries were top notch as well. Myself, I had a chicken filet burger that they must have forgotten about while they were cutting the designs into the weiners. It was truly beyond well done. You have to fill out a form to choose your toppings which is a double edged sword. I'm not so good at choosing. My combined choices didn't go so well together. I like someone else to figure it all out for me. Undoubtedly though, I'm sure most people love the idea. My only suggestion is that they give you a paper plate. Despite it being an uber casual place, sitting at the table and opening your tinfoil is a bit of a turnoff. Even a basket with wax paper would be nice. Not a perfect experience but an amazing burger; dare I say better than Bells Corners deserves? Being located inside The Butchery, these guys know all about meat. The seasoned Vera burgers, all-beef dogs, and spicy chicken fingers are to die for. The patties have tons of flavour, not bland beef like the fast food joints, and you can load them up with a wide array of toppings. Unfortunately they often forget my fries, so I end up waiting longer than the already painful wait. I find the fries a bit too hard (at least they're fresh) and sometimes undercooked (they have to rush) so next time I might just forget them myself. You won't be disappointed with the main course. Tip: browse the rest of the butchery for something to take home while you wait for your burger. read more

Had a bacon, cheese burger and it was pretty good. The beef patty was tasty, not one of the typical skinny flat frozen pattys. The bacon was crispy, lettuce and tomatoe were fresh and the right amount of confiments. Seemed to be cooked to order so nice and hot when I got it. The one lost star is for the price, after a small tip it was just shy of $18, without a drink or side. Had that price reflected a complete meal I'd be okay with it but $18 for the burger alone is too expensive. read more

A long time ago, when I first stopped in here, the burger made me freeze in my seat. Then, I melted into my seat with every bite, and made yummy sounds to myself. At least I hope it was to myself. Audible yummy sounds can be a bit embarrassing. If you've watched How I Met Your Mother, recall an episode where Marshall experiences the perfect burger and then goes on a quest to find it again. That episode PERFECTLY describes what Vera's serves. It has now become known in our house as the "Marsall burger". So, when I heard they were serving steak, I had to go there for a date night with my wife. Gee, steak from a butcher under the same roof. How bad could it be? Good things take time. Great things are worth the wait. 35 minutes was well worth the wait for this meal. More so when you consider the value. A meal like this would have easily been over twice the price at any decent steak house in town. I'm drooling as I type, scanning the calendar, and planning the next visit. It's a little hard to spot at first, but it's worth looking for. Tucked away inside The Butchery, they run a pretty good burger stand. For about $12, you get a really good-sized burger, fries, and a soda. To order your burger, there are pencils and order forms, where you pick out what you want on your burger, give the slip of paper to the cashier, and wait for them to call your order. A few of us recently did a Ottawa burger showdown to declare the best burger joint burger in town. A few lazy Yelpers (I'm hoping they review) were along for the showdown. Our list included Hintonburger, Veras and Five guys. Our burger baseline would be a burger with a slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato and a few condiments of your choice. We omitted bacon because Hintonburger has to way awesome of bacon. After an afternoon of driving around Ottawa we came to the conclusion that Vera's had best quality meat but lost out a close hard fought battle to Hintonburger. It was real funny, while we were in here some people heard about our trek and wanted to join. We also ran across a waitress from The Works who asked us why we didn't include the works and agreed with our assessment. It was a good fight Vera's! read more

I`m from Toronto and I haven`t tasted a burger like this down there (and believe me I have looked!). This thing is big, mean, juicy and delicious. We're still talking about the burger. The fries are pretty darn good as well. Paired with the burger and coke it is a spectacular combination that will leave you stuffed. They are definitely doing something right here. Myself and a colleague found ourselves in Ottawa one day and decided to try out Vera's on his brother's suggestion. I should warn you that throughout the hour long drive there, he was building this place up something fierce so I had very high expectations... and to be honest, it didn't quite live up to the hype. As you walk in, the prepared food is to the left and butcher shop is to the right. It was just before dinner time on a Saturday so the crowd was high and the line queue was a nightmare. People were lining up on both sides of us and trying to cut in. I placed my order for a Vera Burger (classic single patty hamburger) with bacon, cheese, sautéed onions and Vera's Sauce (a creamy garlic parm) by filling out a order sheet which was kinda neat. Again, I understand it was busy but we waited about 20 minutes for our food. With very limited seating we were forced to meander around the butcher shop for the duration while our food was prepared. Once we were served, we were lucky enough to secure a seat and I looked forward to trying this burger. Everything about the hamburger was beyond fresh which was probably the best part about this place. The flame broiled meat itself was very juicy and a very good size but seemed to lack flavour a bit. So overall the wait time, limited seating, and the fact that it's an hour drive for me knocks Vera's down a couple stars for me. The food was very good but I guess I expected to be blown away by it which I wasn't. I would like to go back sometime when it's not so busy and give it another chance to wow me. read more

Straight up, you know these burgers are going to be good because Vera's is literally located inside a butchery. And you'd be right because these are the freshest, tastiest burger patties in town!! I was in heaven after my first bite. For what you get, it's not that expensive either. First note to all, the burgers are cooked pink. Not everyone likes that and it's not mentioned on the menu. The cooks ensured it is safe. The burger is really good! Nice crisp grill marks on outside, moist and crumbly as expected in a fresh patty. Condiments are necessary to bring in some extra flavours and salt but if you are a purest you will understand it is how a real good burger should be. I ordered a double and it is a a lot of burger. A single patty would be enough and not feel over stuffed. As a note, my references to top burgers in town would be Baja, the Works and Hintonburger in that order. I would insert Vera among the top three if I need a fresh burger craving. We ordered basket of fries and rings a sides. The rings where wonderful, fluffy crisp and tender inside. I recommend. The fries were fresh cut and fried crisp but I was disappointed with the cut selection as it was nearly all tiny one inch lengths instead of a nice long meaty bite. Unlimited fountain drinks for 2 bucks! In summary, I will only stick to burger and rings. Skip the fries. Or if I'm not starving just the burger and cherish every bite. read more

While my husband fully admits to having a food-crush on this place, I don't get the appeal. I finally decided to go with a group of coworkers for lunch one day. If you haven't been, you have to fill out a little slip with your options (beef, Turkey. Toppings, fries, etc.) order, pay and wait for your burger to be ready. There were 8 of us in total and I placed my order about 3rd in line (Turkey burger with bacon, because life's about balance, y'know). My 3 colleagues get called, then the 4 who were after me, then about 10 other patrons...I've now been waiting about 20-25 minutes. Still nothing. My colleagues have now finished their meals, I'm still waiting. By the time it comes up, it's been 35 minutes. I mention (albeit passive-aggressively) that I will now need it to go. No explanation, no apology, no recognition that it took a really long time. The burger, by the time I got to eat it, was just meh. I would choose The Works, Burger Builder or World Burger over this spot any day. read more

I love a good burger and was excited to learn of Vera Burger being so close to my work. I went into the Butchery shop and was excited to see how nice this butcher shop/deli/ Vera Burger counter was! Everything looked inviting, but this review is about the burger! I ordered the Vera Burger and specified how I like it on the small form you fill out at the counter to order your burger. Then I waited at one of the tables nearby with anticipation as they began making it. I also ordered a small fry as was recommended by other reviewers. when it was ready, I can tell you my first bite was, luscious!! Warm bun, burger had a flame-broiled taste, the Vera sauce was a nice addition that I later regretted due to a breath 'situation!' It was a good burger, thick patty, nice flavour, cooked medium! Would I drive all the way out to the West end for it, probably not! The fries were, and I am NOT exaggerating, HORRIBLE! Soggy, under cooked on the inside, over cooked on the outside, no salt on them.... Really not worth eating, and I didn't! I'll stick to my 5-guys for now and anticipate going to Hintonburger, as I have heard good things! Vera Burger, please fix your fries! read more

I've eaten at Vera's many times as well as purchased from the Butchery. Vera's burgers are delicious-- always consistently good-- as another reviewer mentioned, better than Bells Corners deserves. I've tried both their regular fries and sweet potato fries, and will stick with sweet potato from now on! They are SO good! The only reason I give them 4 stars is because at times I feel their service can be hit or miss. When they're busy, it shows in the lack of customer service and staff can quickly seem irritated. Other than that, I've had no issues. They recently remodelled too and the renovations look great. read more

We went to Vera's based on the reviews we read on this and other sites. I will admit that the burger was good however the experience was lacking. First of all they were out of fries. At 1:00? So we got wedgies instead. Half a basket for $5.50. Anyways, long story short, 2 burgers with cheese, wedgies, a small salad and 1 drink $24.00. Don't think we'll be back. read more

My girlfriend and I were in the area as I promised her to stop by an other restaurant which ended up to be closed so with a lot of resistance I agreed to try Veras. I've had such hate towards burgers in restaurants for the longest time. I always ask if their burger are any good and everytime the servers will say yes it's one of the bests. When you get the burger it's a tasteless frozen patty. I figured we try this place because there was a butchery in the restaurant so maybe just maybe it would be fresh. IT WAS. The burger tastes really fresh. I was a bit disappointed that it was one of those select the ingredients for the burger places (personally I rather see the chefs interpretation of a good burger) however that being said it was probably one of the bests if not the best burger I've had in ottawa. My only other complaint is that if you want to have fries with the burger it's an extra. It's a tad expensive for the burger a la carte. If the fries were included I'd probably be eating there everyday. All together it was a really good experience with a very symbiotic concept which I really like. read more
