He is very meticulous, and sets very high standards for himself and his subs. He clearly takes pride in his work. He is also very good about working with the homeowner on special requests. Have an older home? No worries - he is well aware that older homes have lots of surprises hidden behind the walls and that you won't know what you may find until you open them up; once you see what you're working with, he is great about working through changes that may be needed to accommodate those unexpected surprises you find along the way. And he's creative in coming up with solutions to those surprises. As far as homeowner input goes, if you are someone who likes to be intimately involved in your renovations and source your own fixtures, tile, etc., he is a great fit for you. Because he's onsite for the whole project, you can speak with him almost every day about plans, questions, timing, etc. - no waiting for the GC to show up once every 3 days to have a conversation about the work. If you work with a designer, he will also accommodate that arrangement. And you can count on him to finish the punch list.

The work the team did was beautiful and a great value for the price. We went a little over 10% over budget, which is just about what I expected for a project like this, and I was pleasantly surprised that we actually finished a few days early. The work comes with a 3-year warranty too (which we needed in the past and have had no trouble using), which gives extra peace of mind. Each person on the project - Elena the project manager, Juan the site supervisor, Alexa the designer, John the estimator, and especially the lead technician Cornelio was a pleasure to work with. As with any renovation, there are always surprises and hiccups along the way, but the team handled everything professionally, even when I was stressed and occasionally cranky. One thing of particular note was how much the team was willing to work with me when the inevitable surprises came up. There are things that nobody can foresee, which usually results in a change order and extra cost, but then there are those little things where everyone leaves a conversation with a different impression. In those latter instances, I always really appreciated how willing everyone was to meet me halfway and to make sure I felt good about how things were going and confident that we were doing right by each other. Worst part: charging us for things like moving the fridge AND putting it back. If we want the ice maker reconnected, it's more than $100! Insane. And our house is all electric (no gas) but they're charging us to reconnect the gas line! I can't imagine how much people overlook when choosing this company. It's too bad, too, because they were our first choice. Not anymore.

The owner Justin was great to work with, communicated almost daily, and stopped by the house frequently to check on the progress of the work and answer any questions or concerns I had. Selvin the team lead is a true craftsman, knows his stuff, and clearly takes pride in the quality of his work. Others on the team worked equally hard and they have all been with Calabrese for at least 10 years. We also sent a detailed email. Three WEEKS later we haven't heard a thing, and it's clear we aren't going to. They have two websites (craftremodeling.com and craftremodelingcompany.com) but one shows this: "This website is managed by 411 Locals and has been temporarily removed. Please Click Here to reactivate or call (855) 204-6518 Monday through Friday 8AM - 4PM PST." The other website shows this: "Call 888.349.0045 or email us at sales@craftremodeling.com to schedule your free consultation!" When you call that toll-free number, you get a screeching fax tone in your ear and then the line drops, goes dead. There's more.... We engaged John Hegarty's company to build our backyard deck in 2000 and spent $21,000 on the project. It's a good deck to this day so that's not the point. The point is that we spent that much with John's company, reached out to him for the possibility of additional work after 23 years, so we remembered him, and yet he can't be bothered to respond to our 3 messages and 1 email? Incredibly unprofessional. He seems to still be in business because who pays for webhosting and an answering service if they're out of business? We also see a review on Google from 6 months ago, so he seems to still be in business. HOW, I'm not sure. Extremely disappointing to put it mildly. If he treats repeat customers this unprofessionally, how does he treat first-time customers?
