She's had a thermostat replaced (the old one worked just fine; this was not a replacement she requested) and it does not work. It's set at 72° and it is currently 81° inside her condo. It's only March! She's afraid to call maintenance because they've warned her that, if she calls again about the thermostat, they will BAN HER FROM THE DINING ROOM FOR 30 DAYS!!!! How is this legal??? She knows of other residents that this has happened to. Outside contractors and service companies refuse to do work at the El Dorado. Her monthly dues are outrageous at $1995/ month. That is more than she makes on social security each month! She owns the condo, but she's dipping into her savings each month, just to survive here. And security??? HA! We've gotten her a nanny cam, because she is certain that someone is entering her place while she's out. There's things that have gone missing from her home. Yes, they (management) all have keys to each and every residence. And you're not allowed to change your locks. Why not move to a keyless entry, like hotels, where you could track who enters? Oh right... that cost would be passed down to the residents. And yes, they have transportation offered, which you pay for if it's not a place on their "list". And there's shopping trips you can sign up for, as long as you can walk quickly. They'll go to Walmart, for example, but there's a time limit. My grandmother walks with a walker and moves very slow (common for a lot of elderly in their 80's and more); she doesn't have the time needed to complete her shopping in one trip. It's unacceptable. I live out of state, and cannot get down here more than a few times a year, so she's stuck with these living conditions. There's no family nearby to help her. Nothing is selling here. And while it's listed for sale, it's true that you are still required to pay all monthly dues, even though you aren't residing here. And living in Sun City is absolute insanity, with the annual dues (up to $685 for this year) that are required, whether you utilize the city amenities or not. Do NOT move here! Do NOT come to the El Dorado. You will regret that decision immediately. I'm looking into to contacting the local news regarding all of this crap. You have been forewarned. I wish my grandmother never sold her home and moved here. Hiring a cleaning service and having meals delivered would likely have been cheaper than this B.S. It certainly would have been more humane.

The chef has frequent meetings with the residents and they are allowed to offer suggestions. All of the staff know all of the residents names. The staff seem to truly enjoy their jobs. The grounds and the apartments are extremely well cared for. Any time my mom needs something fixed or hung on the wall, maintenance is there in a timely manner to assist her. A rear door either leads to an exit or a back porch if on the second floor. Many additional resources are provided for those who request it. My mother-in-law has lived here for the past five years. I can't imagine a better place in the Phoenix area to retire in an assisted living environment. The apartments are roomy and provide the mechanical aids many older residents require. The meals are delicious and provided by a courteous and congenial staff.

I enjoy interacting with the other residents, and I really appreciate the excellent care my dad receives from the attentive staff... day AND night... it's given with gentle grace and sincere affection for the residents. Their activities are numerous and varied, so a person can be as active as they want (or choose to "hermit up" if they prefer). The food is nutritious and delicious and is served "on demand" from 7am-6pm. There's a library, a fitness center, free laundry and even a salon on-site for the residents' convenience. With a day's notice, they'll even drive you to your Dr. appt, or to the mall to go shopping. It doesn't get much better than The Carillons! I highly recommend this facility to active seniors and those who need assistance with everyday tasks alike. My dad has a good quality of life, and I have peace of mind!

Willing to listen patiently to residents that are frustrated and struggling to get their thoughts out, they help to resolve concerns quickly (especially with technology). The food is good and plentiful, the cleaning staff keep both apartments and common areas looking good. They have both rehab and medical personnel that are either on property or visit regularly to handle those issues that come up and are concerning. Best of all the entertainment and things "to do" give it a cruise ship feel on a daily basis. I thank them for their service to residents who have entered their final chapter and have less worries day-to-day!

They also have an amazing Bible study on Tuesdays which is good for their souls. I can't say enough good things about them.
