Personally, I can't handle too much movement so opted for a calm staionary cart. The overall ride I think they noted is 7 minutes. It takes time to load each cart and then they'll finally go for a full spin. Nice views from the top of the beach and all the colorful rides. Truly a wonder when you think how old this is and how long all of the rides are around Luna Park and Coney Island. A relaxing ride. A great date idea too!

The other one, the cyclone, of course! I had to ride the two most iconic rides at Coney Island. For a Ferris wheel that's over 100 years old, they keep it up in great shape. They have two different types of cars. One that you can rock, and the other one, that I sat in. Lol. I don't want my Ferris wheel Cars to rock. As an added bonus, the rocking cars sit on the inner ring of the Ferris wheel, and the non-rocking cars sit on the outer ring. So, you also get a better view The ride was fun, the views were great, and it only 10 bucks, a little bit pricey, but not too bad. I had a blast.

It's a small strip of land with mostly concrete, some bench seating, and trees. We are really stretching the word "park" with this one. Today, I noticed there was a statue of General Jose Artigas that is the centerpiece of this "park." According to a quick google search, he is regarded as a national hero in Uruguay and the father of Uruguayan nationhood. Why does his statue stand here? I have absolutely no idea, but similar to Napoleon and Alexander the Great, it looks like he was a soldier who led from the front and I have so much respect for that. It's a busy intersection where Broadway, Sixth Avenue (also called Avenue of the Americas), and 34th Street meet. This area is named after an old newspaper called the New York Herald. The newspaper used to have its main office here. The intersection is shaped like a bow tie. It has two main parts. The northern part is called Herald Square. The southern part is called Greeley Square. Herald Square has a huge mechanical clock. Its parts were built in 1895 by a sculptor named Antonin Jean Carles. This monument is called the James Gordon Bennett Monument. It features the Goddess of Wisdom, Minerva, with her owls. She stands in front of a large bell. Two bell ringers stand on each side of Minerva. The monument is made of Milford pink granite. The bell was designed to chime every hour. The two bronze figures are seven feet tall. They are nicknamed Stuff and Guff. They look like they are ringing the bell with their mallets. But actually, the bell is rung by mallets hidden behind it. These figures and the clock were first part of the 1894 New York Herald Building. When the building was torn down in 1921, the figures were saved. They were put back in Herald Square in 1940

The views are terrific and great for picture taking, and for a quick rest. There are plenty of seats set up and some tables. A small patch of grassy area to picnic on which over the past few years has fell in negligence and needs to be taken care of. Before the pandemic it was nice and green, and sometimes live music events for the community took place here. With the current work being done to expand the esplanade downtown it seems to be on the backburner for care. The sculpture is the main focal point here. When I first saw it I though a roller coaster was installed. It's actually an 80 foot long helix art installation by artist Alice Aycock which is attached to the skeletal steel roof supports of a former waterfront garbage transfer station. You can view work crews underneath working through it on the esplanade expansion. It's a fun looking piece and much different than the normal art and statures you'll see in the NYC parks. It's also referred to as the East River Roundabout.

This nice little park tucked in between Eastern Parkway, Classon Avenue, and Washington Avenue, is…read morenamed after Dr. Ronald Erwin McNair, the second African-American astronaut to travel into space[1], who died in the space shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. A bronze portrait sculpture and reliefs depicting Dr. McNair's life by artist Ogundipe Fayomi[2] are installed on a red marble obelisk at the center of the park. The park was originally named after Brooklyn borough President Joseph Guider. In fact, there is a sculpture at the South side of the park remembering him. The park was named after Dr. McNair in 1986, the same year as the Challenger disaster. Towards the North side of the park there are benches and tables, and there are benches along the side of the park. The very south tip is actually fully enclosed by a fence, which is helpful if you are bringing a dog here, or a toddler who likes to run around. Or if you want to play the trumpet[3]. What I really like is the magnolia and cherry trees in this park. During COVID, when the Brooklyn Botanic Garden across the street was closed, the trees in McNair Park were the closest thing to the cherry blossom blooming festival/Sakura Matsuri you could get in Brooklyn. During the time they were in blossom in the spring of 2020, the cherry trees and magnolia trees at McNair Park provided a reminder that, in stressful times, you can still find beauty, peace, and an opportunity to just relax, albeit temporarily, next to home. ------------------ [1] Guion S.
