I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Bones at an event a few weeks ago. After a brief discussion away from the station, his slightly smug demeanor, blunt attitude, and overall level of confidence in his product left me salivating to try his pizza. When one is a true master at a craft, one must posses a level of confidence well above the average person because without this confidence, execution can be inconsistent. There was no inconsistency here. This pizza was phenomenal. Chef Bones described his pizza as "simple" because as he said, "simple is best." I couldn't agree more. His pizza transported me back to Pompeii outside of the ruins to a little cafe that served me one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. The crust was more than just the crispy watery crust many west coasters drool over because it reminds them of New York crust. No, this crust was light yet flavorful, crispy yet pillowy soft, a perfect bed of starch to soak up the flavors of a perfectly cooked pizza. And if I may add, cooking a pizza perfectly is no easy feat. Underdone and you might be scooping your cheese out of the middle like soup, and if it's over cooked your crust begins to burn as well as all of your delicate ingredients. The sauce was delightful. Sauce in my opinion is the most difficult part to get right. If it's too bitter you're eating Dominos circa 1999, too sweet and you're eating DiGiornos. This sauce was incredibly well balanced and NOT overly seasoned, a very common mistake of many "authentic" Italian restaurants - All aboard the garlic train! - No thank you! Chef Bones makes his cheese from scratch and I'm pretty sure that even a six year old could discern the quality difference between his cheese from other pizzas. To me this was his signature on the pizza. It was so incredibly moist without being overly tangy, and so soft without being too stringy. People say they want to stretch their mozzarella apart and watch the stringy cheese look fresh. Why? I want cheese with all of that flavor that is melt in my mouth soft. This is what his hand made cheese did. The highest marks I can give. Of all the pizzas I've had In the United States, nothing gives me more joy than to say this was in my top 3; nestled with the likes of a perfectly cooked pizza from Pizzeria Mozza and a fresh out of the oven slice of cheese from Ben's in the south village of Manhattan. Chef Bones it truly was a pleasure. Thank you for sharing your art, and I am counting the days until I take a trip down south to try to clean out your truck. Keep up the stellar work and best of luck in all of your future endeavors. Evviva!! read more

Joseph and Jeremy catered an event for my daughters preschool. Both Joe and Jeremy were extremely courteous, helpful and the pizza was amazing! They allowed the children to create their own individual pizzas and assisted with the process. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As for the parents, I think we enjoyed it much more. The customized oven is gorgeous and creates delicious masterpieces. We couldnt get enough of their Brie cheese and Truffle-oil pizza (still salivating at the thought). Joe and Jeremy were incredibly professional, generous and have definitely set the standards For quality of product and service. We plan on booking them for our daughters birthday :) read more

The guy giving me the pizza dropped it all over my clothes and burned the shit out of my arm, but the pizza was pretty good. Wish they would've offered to pay for the pizza, but wouldn't stop me from ordering again. ‍ read more

If i could give Vella pizza a 6th star, I would. Chef Bones and his staff were top notch. Very friendly and happy to help guests with anything they wanted. You can tell they are proud of the product they serve and the business they run. And for good reason! It is divine pizza. Every single thing that they made was better than the next. You could put a glass and nails on that dough, I would still eat it with a smile. Now that I have gotten a taste, I'm gonna be following them for sure. read more

My husband & I bumped into this place while attending Harbor's City food trucks event. As soon as I saw the wood fired oven out there I couldn't believe it. Then I looked at their pizza & I just had to have it! The pizza was very tasty & I loved that it was thin crust. My pizza had pepperoni, salami & mozzarella. It was just perfect. The dough was delicious. I even tried their serrano sauce which was also great! It was just an amazing experience read more

I'm a pizza aficionado, a straight up pizza addict! I make it at home, I've had pizza from both sides of the US coasts and all over Europe. That being said, I don't give out 5 star to anyone that doesn't deserve it. Vella Pizza is the BEST pizza in all of LA, yes I said it. What?!?!?! Exactly, it's the best! The ingredients are fresh and hand selected each day to create the special toppings for every pizza. There's always variety and Chef Joe and his brother Jeremy will accommodate anyone's tastes and requests! If it ain't Vella Pizza, you ain't eating pizza! 'nuff said! read more

Go and ask for the Fantasy Pizza, put your fate in Joe and Jeremy's hand, and get a Pizza that will change your perspective for ever. Beware...you will never look at Pizza the same. I've had everything from Curried Lamb with sliced cloves of garlic to basil asparagus and who knows what. And it never disappoints. These guys are Masters of the Art. True Naples style. They're like Shaolin Monks, but Italian, and with pizza! They are Masters...Hands Down!!! read more

Best Pizza catering company ever!! The staff is amazing. The catered our wedding party and WOW the whole party was impressed. Not only were they professional and the pizza was definitely made of the finest ingredients. But the thing that stood out beyond that was Joey and his team !! He even offered to help me move tables to make room for the dance floor!!! They looked out for us knowing how busy we were running around they made sure we ate. They helped every guest with a smile and truly stood out at our event. You don't just get great pizza but you get an experience. They treat you like you are part of their family. Highly recommended you won't go wrong. read more

You will not find a better pizza or service!!! I already had a well known pizza catering co. lined up for our wedding party and thank goodness I found Vella Pizza and made the switch. If you appreciate high quality ingredients professionally prepared (and like pizza) this is it. Fresh, locally grown or produced ingredients combined by a real professional make this a can't miss. Price-wise they are very reasonable for this quality. I'm another reviewer from Monkish and can highly recommend both! read more

Is it just me, or is their pizza amazing? We had Vella while visiting King Harbor Brewery and were extremely happy with the freshly baked pizza. We ordered a Fantasy which is their choice of toppings and it didn't disappoint. We ended up getting a second because one just wasn't enough! read more

My friend and I were excited to try the pizza at the Scholb Bingo night. The crust was so good. I could tell by the look and smell when we got there that the pizzas would be good. They had 3 to choose from- veggie, pepperoni, and margherita for $12 each. They said we could have whatever we wanted on our though, from what they had. Just a really good brick oven pizza that went perfect with our beer. I will definitely be recommending them for future work lunches/ parties my company has. We also plan to come back to Scholb Bingo night partly just to eat the pizza again! read more

Joseph and is team arrived timely and were very courteous and considerate of our guest. They set up everything so that the food was prepared and served quickly and in a party like atmosphere. Great Food, nice staff, exactly what you want at a catered event. Every single guest raved about how good the food was. I I attended another event a couple of weeks later and they also hired a similar pizza company with a wod burning over etc. It was no comparison to what Joseph served, he knows his ingredients and what works well together to deliver the best flavors with every single bite. Man I am hungry now!! Thank you Joseph to you and your team! Best wishes Kelly read more

I'm having second thoughts giving these awesome guys a Yelp review because I'd hate to to wait in longer lines. However, Vella Pizza's got hands down the best pizza I've ever had! Joe is the man. He and his staff came to a wedding I coordinated completely prepared, friendly, helpful and professional. Loved the fact that they bring unlimited pizza with the actual pizza oven so it's hot, fresh and ready! read more

What a disaster! They showed up 2 hours late to begin with. It was a sit down 60th birthday for 30 people. Menu had been changed by Joe without the hostesses knowledge - food was ice cold - branzino was filled with skin and bones fillet was sinewy. The setting was so spectacular - truly a shame the meal was so poor. Perhaps this is not what they do best. However they should not have agreed to such a party. Even the specialty- Pizza- was soggy. Disappointing to say the least. read more

The dopest, freshest, and most delicious pizza I've had in Los Angeles. Italian certified DOC with the hottest wood burning oven that creates crispy bubbles of torched goodness on the dough. Wow! Joe the owner of Vella is the real deal. I first tried their pizza a few weeks back and left a less than stellar review. I apologize it was definitely a off nite. Toady at Absolution tap room they made an outstanding pizza. It was cooked to perfection and the toppings were fresh and full of flavor. I really like the touch of kalamata olives with the marscapone cheese. Nothing beats a great pizza and a cold beer go see them at the local Torrance tap rooms and enjoy. read more

Best pizza in LA. I'm not buying that review that says the pizza was soggy. I've ordered about 30 of his pizzas on trivia night at King Harbor. Every one was awesome and I've been to Santa Margarita Italy which is known for their pizza. read more

Delicious, piping hot, amazing crust, high quality ingredients. A really great experience too watching it come out of the oven.

I've had their pizza a few times at King Harbor Brewing Co in Redondo Beach. Great concept, good menu, and pretty tasty! The staff is very friendly (some more than others). I'm docking a star because although the edge crust is perfect, the rest of the pizza comes out soggy and so the pizza is limp when trying to eat it (not sure if that's something they can control though). I wouldn't mind if they knocked off a dollar and made it $10 too...seems a little pricey. read more

Probably one of the best pizza's I have ever had! My husband and I stopped at the Monkish brewery in torrance (Another must try). I've seen them there a few times but never tried any of their pizzas till last night. The pizzas are not greasy and the flavors are on point! As I left the brewery I told the two guys working that I really liked their pizza and one of the guys first response was "Great, yelp us then" in a snarky voice... It kinda threw me off, but I was like oh ok, yeah I will! His response... "Surrrre you will". I'm like is he challenging me to write a review? So Mr Pizza man, here I am writing a review for the great pizza I had...Like I said I would! read more

Exquisite crust, sauce, olive oil, and toppings, not to mention super friendly and helpful staff. I'm from New York, and generally speaking, the pizza in the LA area makes me incredibly homesick. Vella's makes me miss it a little less, and that's a beautiful thing. read more

Mmmmmm, best pizza on the planet! My wife and I had their pizza at a farmers market and loved the unique and fresh ingredients. When it came to to choosing a caterer for our wedding reception we contacted Vella. Reasonably priced for the amazing food. The owner Joseph and his staff do a fantastic job and the food is terrific!! their pizza is gourmet.... creative and healthy gourmet twist on the oven fired fare. Joseph's pizza made such an impression on me that I literally dreamed about eating Vella Pizza! So I couldn't pass up the opportunity to hire Vella to cater my son's graduation party and I knew I would not be disappointed. Daniel and his staff served up the taste that I came to adore. Don't worry about if there will be enough food for your guests. The pizzas just kept coming, and in an assortment of delicious flavors that delighted and impressed my guests. Everyone kept asking, "Where did you find him?" I can't wait to do it all again! Vella Pizza is the best pizza I've ever tasted. Thanks Joseph. Vella Pizza - the taste dreams are made of. read more

Vella Pizza catered my son's birthday first party last weekend. The food was absolutely delicious - even my mom loved it and she is very hard to please. Joseph and 2 helpers showed up on time and were friendly and easy to work with. The pizza oven, which Joseph built himself, was very impressive and my guests enjoyed watching the pizza being made. Joseph is a free spirit and I have a type A personality so it took me a few conversations to figure him out, but once I did, things went very smoothly. His price was reasonable and he was flexible and accommodating. I would definitely recommend him and would use him again in the future. read more

Where do I begin??? First of all, something as good as Vella Pizza needs a special extra start option. YELP get on it already!! If I could give Chef Joe and his team 10 stars I would!! I booked Joe for my twin girl's First Birthday party at my house in Glendale. He braved Southern California freeway madness from Redondo Beach to get to my house; ask me if he charged some extra mileage BS. No, he did not! Joe was professional and prompt from the word go. He made the booking process a breeze; he had ideas and suggestions I hadn't even thought of. On the day of, he arrived early to set up in my driveway. (I imagine my poor neighbors were pissed off because they could smell the heavenly aromas wafting through the air; I know I would have been) The pizzas were ready exactly when he said they would be. He was even kind enough to offer his assistance to the rental company who couldn't get up the tent. Now lets get to what really matters here; the pizza!!! They were absolutely delicious!!! I cannot tell you the amount of raves and requests I received from my guests. What Joe has created is awesome! Not only is his oven freaking awesome but his pizza is quality from the dough on up. The sauce has just the right balance of acidity and sweetness. The toppings are super fresh and flavorful. I had other appetizers; therefore, I only asked for the pizza catering. Joe just happened to have farm fresh produce, which he just happened to whip into a grilled vegetable platter and fresh green salad. I didn't ask for any of it, he just did it because he wanted to. Come on, who does that these days??? It is abundantly clear that Joe is passionate about what he does. He stayed until the very last pizza dough he had was cooked to perfection; not because I asked him to, but because he cares about his reputation and his work. WE LOVE VELLA PIZZA!!! So much so, we are trying to come up with excuses for a function to hire him again. Do yourself a favor and hire him for your next event, you will thank me and your guests will thank you. Joe, thank you for making our event stress free and for giving our guest delicious food. Most of all, thank you for making a very special day for our family that much more memorable!!! read more
