This is particularly for the Silver Spring location Online states that it's open, and closes at 1pm. It's Saturday, May 24th. However when you get there, the gates are closed and a random guy outside telling everyone the building is closed for the holidays for Saturday and Momday. Excuse me? The holiday is MONDAY, not today. The silver spring emissions office should be OPEN! POOR COMMUNICATION, because the voicemail says it's closed on Saturday (today) and Monday. I had to see John to address the next steps, and the explanation I received removed the stress that surrounds dealing with these matters. Chriss came into the office and followed up. Service was quick and efficient. The gentleman that helped me didn't need the sheet that we receive in the mail (but bring it just in case you stumble upon someone who wants to see it). Thankfully the wait times are listed on the MVA site and I'd say they're pretty accurate for the most part. This is a nice location for Emissions Inspection for vehicles. There are ample lanes available and most lanes are generally staffed. This keeps the lines moving at a steady pace. I was able to get my vehicle inspected within 15 minutes and it was a smooth operation. Payment is not contactless so I did have to get out of the vehicle and complete the transaction. I received a notice in the mail indicating I needed to get my vehicle emissions test. Prior to this I received conflicting notices about getting the inspection. After calling to verify it had to be done before my title renewal in August I found this inspection station online. I called them to ask about the test & was advised not to go to any of the totally automated stations (if there's any problems there's no one to help you). On the morning I went to this inspection station there was a very short line of cars. In just over 5 minutes I was the next one in line. When I pulled up to the test station terminal the attendant gave me a friendly greeting. Keeping my car running I handed him my car title so he could enter my data. I exited my car as directed and paid with my credit card at the pay station. As soon as my payment went through my test was done. He told me I passed and handed me my confirmation receipt! I could not have been any easier! A few days later when the results of this test were available online I completed the renewal of my car title. The total fee for the 2 year renewal was about $120. I received the sticker for my license plate in the mail about 2 weeks later. This is where you go to get your vehicle emissions inspection done. After changing my vehicle registration to Maryland, I got a letter in the mail a few weeks later telling me to come get this test done. I went on a Friday morning and was done in 5 min. Follow the signs directing you to drive around the back of the building, and then there was someone directing me which station to pull into and park. He checked the gas cap and plugged something in to the steering wheel and that was it. He was done by the time I finished paying. They accept cash or credit for the payment. The test is good for two years. My only complaint is that they don't have a closer station for Montgomery county. The drive out to silver spring took much longer than the time it took to get the test done. read more

Surprisingly efficient. I came to get my emissions test done on a freezing cold Saturday morning. Thought sure that they'd either be closed due to the extreme cold, or that I would be one of the few brave souls to come out and get my test done on a day like that. No, on both accounts. Not only were they open (the guy who tested my car said that they never close for extreme temperatures), but I had lots of company in line! Don't be discouraged if you see a few cars poking out of the lot at the end of the seemingly long line. Once you get around the curve of the building, there are multiple stations (I think 4 or 5) and they are equipped to handle 2 cars at once (though they are not always doing so). That said, the line moves relatively quickly. You can expect to spend about 20-30 minutes, total, between your wait and your visit. Not too bad. The staff is friendly enough. They aren't much for chit chat, but they'll greet you and get you in and out of there as soon as possible. read more

I like this emissions place. I've had to go twice in the past two months for my cars and I've never had to wait in line. I went once at like 4pm on a Tuesday and last night I went at roughly 6pm. I like that the hours fit working people well. Tues-Wed they are open until 7pm, Mon-Thur-Fri they are open until 5pm. Oh, and until 1pm on Saturday. Once every year or two years, you have to get your emissions test for MD. I came to this station on a Thursday morning and was in and out within 5 minutes, no joke. I waited about 2 minutes in line for a bay to open up, then the test itself only took 3 minutes. When I asked the smog check dude if this was normal, he said that Thursday was a good day to come and that they were much busier M-W and Saturday. The test is only $14 here. I remember paying $100 when I first moved to MD because I went to a state-licensed gas station to do the vehicle inspection (which involved more than just emissions, but emissions was the primary thing) -- and I know the gas station also made up repairs that they could tack on... read more

Very efficient. Emissions test took 5 mins and if you utilize the "wait webcam" you can time your visit. I went on a weekday morning the last day of the month and had one car in front of me. I tried the automated kiosk at Beltsville and it was slow, could not read my credit card, had to reboot the card reader, had to initialize the wireless OBD reader you attach to your car. Awful experience. After all that, it could not "communicate" with my fairly new Nissan. The OBD reader at the full service site worked fine and I didn't have to crawl under my dash looking for the OBD port just too save $4, LOL. read more

I don't have high expectations for any government service and often these services live up to those expectations. This is one such place. They have 8 to 10 bags. 4 seemed to be open. I got in line. Over the next several minutes multiple cars drove into the open bays and were serviced. I waited. Why no one who saw me there , and all workers did, didn't usher me to an open bay is beyond me. But it's lousy service. $14 for 2 years on an emissions test seems ok. If they could just fix the service. Total time, 20 minutes. read more

The other reviews on the site are relevant if your car is newer and no issues arise, as the people outside are indeed acceptable in this scenerio. However, if there is an issue, such as with an older car, good luck! My car failed, and they said they couldn't comunicate with my computer. I replied, why not just check to see how much smog I was putting out, but they told me that was irrelevant. What? It is a car, not an X-Box! When I spent $550 to try to fix my computer with repairs unrelated to my smog at a certified emissions repair facility, they said the repairs were unrelated. WTF?!? If you told me my computer was the problem, then the repairs to the computer should count. All of these discussions were with the guy in the office, who has no reasoning or logic ability whatsoever. read more
