I didn't like the taste of seitan in the Mongolian stir fry. It looks good but doesn't taste great. Curry rice was just okay. Tempura veggies were like every other place. Overall good option for vegetarians to try. Definitely worth trying more of the other dishes next time. read more

Im absolutely enamored with this place. I found it accidentally, and was sure it was a typo or misleading title... but it was not & was real! Yes, during 2020, the first Vegan (& Vegetarian) restaurant opened in ChinaTown! I always thought the food in the area was very friendly to Pescatarian & Vegetarian diets... but now Vegan as well. The place is located close enough to one end of the strip & is decorated in a fresh & simple manner that makes you want to stay for your meal. They do social distancing inside by limiting use of tables. There are no more paper menus due to the Panne-De-Mic so you SCAN a QR code to view the menu on your phone. Very Sanitary & removes cross contamination. NEXT: the foooooood THE FOOD IS EXAMPLARY & DEEEELICIOUS I've ordered pickup & had 2 sit-down visits. Not 1 complaint. The flavors were so tasty, but it was the textures for me! The Mongolian Beef was so beefy that I stopped eating it to look at it closer & double check the menu... to remember they don't even have flesh in the building! They season to perfection without relying heavily on salt or soy sauce... to be honest, my tongue did not detect that excess msg flavor either. They now how to add just enough pepper to get an almost spice. The dippy sauces, alone, will have you requesting more. The vegan shrimp, which Ive had before, were absolutely perfect here. Not overcooked & just right. Fried was my preference, but they ate even good in their natural state. A great treat for someone missing that long lost bite of seafood in their now vegan memories. Went in on a Friday night and it was super packed, but we ended up getting a seat. The food was absolutely to die for and came out really quick and hot! The appetizers were all fantastic (crab rangoon and fried tofu), and the entrees even better. There appeared to be only two servers serving 50+ people which was crazy, but they worked so hard and were still so nice. I don't see what the hype is all about. Initially I was very excited to try Veggie House, but after my initial visit, I'm not impressed. I ordered the spicy dumplings and the wonton soup. The same dumplings were in the soup but just had chili oil on top. The wonton soup had two pieces of broccoli and no other veggies. It was cold out when we came here and had never been to Chinatown before so it was a little difficult to figure out where to park and walk inside. They weren't offering any vegan sushi options when we were here either which we didn't know was only a special sometimes so a little disappointing. I ordered Mongolian Soy Beef which was very good and my husband ordered a fried rice dish which he said was well seasoned and tasty too. There was a lot on the menu and we weren't sure of everything seeing a lot of egg so were careful to order vegan but the server wasn't the most helpful with answering any questions. Veggie house is AMAZING!! Their food is actually phenomenal, their staff are caring and attentive, and the vegan sushi is so flavorful and unique. I still dream about this roll, seriously. The spicy mayo and sweet sauce, combine with the unique vegan ingredients like soy shrimp, vegan ham and the vegan cream cheese (the best!) created the perfect flavor explosion in the best way possible. The tempura outside, the soft inside, a perfect valence between tender and crunchy. You cannot go here without ordering this roll. Can't wait to order it again. Godzilla roll 9/10 - Amazing!! I really love this roll. Though, it kind of felt like the volcano roll, except without the crunchy tempura outside which is one of my favorite parts. I would order the volcano over the godzilla any day. Still sooo amazing though!! Mongolian Soy beef 8/10 - So good! My friend really enjoyed this dish. The sauce was so flavorful and definitely created the dish. It was very well presented, and blended well with the side of white rice. Veggie Tempura 9/10 - Great veggie tempura!! It's pretty self explanatory, but they do it super well. The sauce to go along with it is amazing, and it's perfectly crispy, making the tempura the perfect appetizer. The portions are very generous, too! Soup - I actually really really enjoyed this dish. The broth tastes just like miso soup, but what I really like is the little mushrooms-- they're perfectly cooked and soak up the broth so well. Great appetizer! Veggie house is phenomenal and I absolutely recommend this place to any non vegan and vegan alike. From the kind-hearted and caring staff to the delicious food, this restaurant is truly worthy of a 5 star rating. I've been vegan my whole life, and I just remember coming to Chinatown as a kid and not being able to eat anything which was a little sad. Veggie House located in Chinatown is a vegetarian/ vegan restaurant. I went with my family who are not vegan and they loved every single dish. They appreciated all their favorite Chinese food dishes made with veggies. We ordered potstickers, deep fried wonton, wonton soup, sweet and sour chicken, pad Thai, orange chicken and soy beef fried rice. It's been so great, and a breath of fresh air really, to finally see a Chinese vegetarian restaurant in this city!!! There are a variety of vegan restaurants, but none that serve Chinese food. I decided to check this place out with 4 other people, 3 of which are not vegetarian, and we all LOVED it! :) It's a great sign even when meat lovers are raving about a veg place. They have so many dishes to order from. We literally feasted and left extremely full. Posted a video of our food on IG and got tons of DMs from my friends about it too. ;) I highly recommend checking this place out. I can't wait to come back. Tip: definitely make a reservation if you have a large party! I found Veggie House via Google as I waited to get my haircut at my barbershop which sits nearby in Pilsen. The restaurant became a must try after I scrolled through its menu off of Yelp and noted the Sweet & Sour, Kung Pao, and Orange Plant-based Chicken options. Prior to leaving the Pilsen area I ordered takeout via Yelp which I have grown to love while on-the-go. I went with the Sweet & Sour Plant-based Chicken mostly because it had pineapples in it, but in the future I would love to give the other options I aforementioned a try. As for parking, there is plenty of it whether it be within the neighborhood or metered in the immediate area. The timeline for parking influenced me to actually dine-in which is only $2.25 per hour which is not bad. In the long run I did myself a favor because I ended up touring the plaza after leaving the restaurant. Veggie House sits in Chinatown Square with many other businesses and restaurants within the plaza. The restaurant, as like the others, is clean, but the plaza itself has this grimy slum-like appeal which will even make you feel as though you are not in Chicago. The restaurant interior & decoration has a classy intimate vibe making it the perfect spot for dining in for either lunch or dinner with others. The gentleman behind the register was kind as he gave me my takeout order, as well as took care of me after giving me the okay when I asked if I could dine-in. The Sweet & Sour Plant-based Chicken came in the form of fried king oyster mushrooms w/ bell peppers & pineapples mixed in sweet and sour sauce. I was glad that the sweet & sour sauce was put on the side because I probably would not have enjoyed the fried king oyster mushrooms as much if it were drenched all over them. Though my visit was unpremeditated; my experience as a whole was a pleasant one. Very grateful to now add Veggie House to my collection of vegan/ vegetarian options in the city. We ordered curry fried rice, Taiwanese noodles, orange tofu, veggie dumplings, gyoza, fried tofu, and green beans. We loved all the dishes we ordered - they were all packed with flavor and fresh. Our favorites were the curry fried rice, orange tofu, and veggie dumplings. If you like spicy food, be sure to ask for a side of chili oil! They also have plenty of meat substitutes (ex: vegan shrimp, vegan beef, etc) which makes this restaurant especially great for both plant based and meat eaters. I love the vibe of China town and veggie house is in the heart of that. They have a very diversified menu that is all vegetarian or vegan, with options that include meat substitutes like soy and others that are veggie heavy. I enjoyed the dumplings and spring rolls we got as appetizers. For an entree, I had the the Mongolian beef dish, which was good but I definitely wanted the flavor to be more robust than it was. I added so many sauces and peppers but it still feel short. On the other hand, one of the people I came with had a different rice dish and hers was delicious, so it can be hit or miss. We ate it all too fast to take pictures - but my favorites were the spicy Vegetable Dumplings (next level delicious), Crispy Tumeric Oyster Mushroom (amazing), Braised Eggplant (so good, next time I'd order extra spicy), and Mapo Tofu (perfect). The staff was really kind, realizing that my order was vegan but I accidentally ordered a non vegan dish. The owner called to suggest a substitute, and it ended up being my favorite dish. We ordered a bunch of stuff and actually ate nearly all of it. The staff was friendly and fairly attentive although it was a small team and the place was getting full as we ate. The food was good, not great, and would be a convenient option when in the area. I don't know that I'd go out of my way for it, but if I was in the area I'd go back. Orange Tofu - By far the best thing we got. The sauce was sweet/ tangy. The tofu was a bit firm on the outside and creamy on the inside.
