During a recent walk into downtown Honolulu, we passed Honolulu Hale and saw the banner announcing the 2nd Annual VegFest Oahu. We were excited because we had missed its inaugural event and had heard about the creative and delicious vegetarian and vegan options being that were presented. So, today, we made it a point to go to check this event out.
I found out that this event is organized by a group of dedicated VOLUNTEERS who work for months to bring this event to the community. Their leadership team is focused on strengthening the local plant-based community towards sustainable perspectives. This year, there were 50+ booths presented by sponsors, food creations, musicians, vendors and exhibitors.
It sure was crowded under the shady trees between Honolulu Hale and the Mission Memorial Buildings. Among some of the vendors that we visited and purchased products from were Down To Earth (BBQ Jackfruit Sliders & Butternut Squash Slaw plates), Lani Sweets & Treats (Tumeric and Ginger chips), Il Gelato (Dragon Fruit gelato), Counter Culture Fermented Foods (Moroccan Beet Pesto) and Juicy Brew (Jackfruit tacos). I had wanted to check out the Rice Factory's booth, which is the World's first Japanese rice specialty shop but the lines were so long and my husband was pressing me to hurry just so he could watch college football...uh, he could've recorded it but he said it's NOT the same. Hrumph, go figure... football before health?
We did make time to listen to a couple of speakers who inspired us to eat clean, whole foods and go plant based. Now, I hope that we can continue on our path to wellness even though we will probably have "cheat days". read more
